RE silicides 중 ytterbium silicide는 가장 낮은 electric work function을 갖고 있어 n-channel schottky barrier MOSFETs의 source/drain으로 주목받고 있다.

Recently, it was emerged to need the necessity of LPG residues management due to the finding some substances such as rust. This study is performed to investigate the characteristics of LPG residues in the production and distribution stage of LPG. For the qualitative analysis of LPG residues, it was operated to be set up the analysis conditions(the flow rate, etc) of GC-MS and was performed to analyze the component of LPG residues. From the analysis result using GC-MS, it was shown that the component of LPG residues was turned out the plasticizer to be used in the rubber manufacturing process. The inorganic components of LPG residues were analyzed using ICP-OES. At the results of inorganic analysis, it was shown that the Si element was detected, which was presumably derived from defoamers used mainly in the LPG production. Also, the P and Zn element, which are estimated to be components of grease additives used for filling facilities, were also partially detected. No trace of rusting was detected in the LPG residues in the production and distribution stages analyzed in this study. But, as plasticizers and grease additives can affect to the LPG fuel system in vehicles, it will be necessary to use the proper quality of rubber and to expand the use of low boiling grease additives.
During the course of studies on the production and utilization of thermostable ${\alpha}$-amylase from a thormophilic actinomycete species isolated from soil, partial characterization of the ${\alpha}$-amylase has been (arried out. The optimum pH for the dextrinogenic activity of the enzyme was found to be 6.5 and the maximum reaction rate was achieved at a temperature range of 55$^{\circ}$ to 65$^{\circ}C$. Calcium ion was recognized to have a slight effect in activating the enzyme, while heavy metal salts especially ferrous and cupric ions showed a remarkable inhibition effect. The enzyme was best protected iron thermal denaturation at pH 8.0 with tris-HCI buffer;inactivation was rapid at higher or lower pH values. Furthermore, its thermal stability was greatly increased by calcium ion, particulary at the final concentration of 1${\times}$10$\^$-2/ mole in the reaction mixture. The Km value for the ${\alpha}$-amylase was calculated to be 2.17${\times}$10$\^$-4/g per $m\ell$ and the energy of activation for the dextrinogenic reaction to be 12,000${\pm}$580 ㎈ per mole.
Streptomyces polychromogenes IFO 13072 was used as a strain producing cholesterol oxidase(EC 1.1.3.6). The conditions of cholesterol oxidase production were investigated. The optimum composition of medium for production of the enzyme was 1% dextrin, 0.5% casamino acid, 0.1% $KH_2$PO$_4$, 0.5% $NaNO_3$ and 0.05% $MgSO_4$(pH 7.3). The enzyme was purified specifically by cholesterol affinity column chromatography with a yield of 23.2%. The purified enzyme showed a single polypeptide on SDS-PAGE and the molecular weight was estimated about 52,000 daltons. The optimum pH and temperature of the cholesterol oxidase were pH 7.0 and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively. The enzyme was stable in the range of pH 6.0~7.0 and $25^{\circ}C$. The cholesterol oxidase activity was strongly inhibited by metal ions such as $Hg^{2+}$ and $Fe^{2+}$ and inhibitors such as dithiothreitol, mercaptoethanol and isonicotinic acid. The Michaelis constant(Km) for the cholesterol was found to be 25 mM by Lineweaver-Burk plot analysis.
${\alpha}-galactosidase$ releases galactoside from raffinose and stachyose which are the major sugars in soybean, Although raffinose and stachyose were known as flatulence factors, these sugars were recently claimed as bifidus factors. In this experiment we studied the properties of ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ and its production from Bifidobacterium sp. Int-57. Int-57 produced higher level of ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ than other intestinal bacteria. The production of ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ was greater when grown on raffinose compared with other carbohydrates tested. Partially purified ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ was obtained after sonication of harvested cell pellet followed by DEAE-cellulose chromatography and Sepharose CL-6B gel filtration, and assayed using PNP-${\alpha}-galactosidase$ as a substrate. Optimum pH for activity was 7.0 and optimum temperature was $40^{\circ}C$. At 5 mM concentration of metal ions, $CoCl_{2}\;and\;CuCl_{2}$ and inhibited the enzyme activity by 33% and 21% respectively. The enzyme was shown to hydrolyse genuine substrates, i.e. raffinose and stachyose.

The purpose of this study was to test characteristics between normal and autistic children via comparison of nutrient intakes, hair mineral, blood free radical, and serotonin contents. A total of 50 children aged 3-9 were divided into two main groups of normal control children (n=22) and autistic children (n=28) tested by child psychiatrist. The nutrient intakes by 24-hour recall method were no significantly different between the two groups. The concentrations of toxic mineral, such as cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in hair of autistic children were significantly higher, while concentration of antioxidant mineral (Cu, Zn, Fe) was lower than that of normal children. The autistic children had significantly higher concentrations of blood free radical than that of normal children. No significant difference was observed in serotonin concentration between the two groups. Our results suggest a possible role of increased toxic mineral and free radical, both of which may be relevant to the pathophysiology of autism in children with developmental delay.
A new macrocyclic ligand 1,15,18-triaza-3,4;12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-cycloeicosane (NdienOdien$H_4$ = $N_3O_3$) has been synthesized and identified by element analysis, NMR and IR spectrophotometry. Stepwise protonation constants of ligand are determined by potentiometry in 95% methanol solution(I = 0.1 mol $dm^{-3}$, $Me_4$NCl). log $K_1$;log $K_2$;log $K_3$ = 9.1;8.1;3.6.The kinetics of the acid-promoted dissociation reactions of complex cations of nickel(II) and copper(III) with NdienOdien and NdienOen macrocyclic ligands having, respectively, 17 and 20 ring members, have been studied spectrophotometrically in HCl$O_4$ NaCl$O_4$ aqueous solutions. From the temperature effect on kinetic constant ($k_{obs}$), the parameters of activation(${\Delta}H^{\neq}$, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$) of dissociation reaction for $ML^{2+}$ with $H^+$ ion have been determined. We have proposed the possible mechanism of the reaction from the data obtained.

Titanium and its alloys offer attractive properties in a variety of applications. These are widely used for the field of biomedical implants because of its good biocompatibility and high corrosion resistance. Titanium anodizing is often used in the metal finishing of products, especially those can be used in the medical devices with dense oxide surface. Based on SAE/AMS (Society of Automotive Engineers/Aerospace Material Specification) 2488D, it has the specification for industrial titanium anodizing that have three different types of titanium anodization as following: Type I is used as a coating for elevated temperature forming; Type II is used as an anti-galling coating without additional lubrication or as a pre-treatment for improving adherence of film lubricants; Type III is used as a treatment to produce a spectrum of surface colours on titanium. In this study, we have focused on Type II anodization for the medical (dental and orthopedic) application, the anodized surface was modified with gray color under alkaline electrolyte. The surface characteristics were analyzed with Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), surface roughness, Vickers hardness, three point bending test, biocompatibility, and corrosion (potentiodynamic) test. The Ti-6Al-4V alloy was used for specimen, the anodizing procedure was conducted in alkaline solution (NaOH based, pH>13). Applied voltage was range between 20 V to 40 V until the ampere to be zero. As results, the surface characteristics of anodic oxide layer were analyzed with SEM, the dissecting layer was fabricated with FIB method prior to analyze surface. The surface roughness was measured by arithmetic mean deviation of the roughness profile (Ra). The Vickers hardness was obtained with Vickers hardness tester, indentation was repeated for 5 times on each sample, and the three point bending property was verified by yield load values. In order to determine the corrosion resistance for the corrosion rate, the potentiodynamic test was performed for each specimen. The biological safety assessment was analyzed by cytotoxic and pyrogen test. Through FIB feature of anodic surfaces, the thickness of oxide layer was 1.1 um. The surface roughness, Vickers hardness, bending yield, and corrosion resistance of the anodized specimen were shown higher value than those of non-treated specimen. Also we could verify that there was no significant issues from cytotoxicity and pyrogen test.
