The emission factor of nitrogen oxides(NOx) was evaluate to clarify the characteristics of NOx emitted from seven large combustion facilities in seoul area. The emission factors of NOx at A-1 and A-2 facilities of internal combustion engine were 66.957kgNOx/ton and 20.913kgNOx/ton, respectively. The emission factor of A-1 facility was higher than that of A-2 facility even same internal combustion engine, because A-1 facility adopted SCR(selective catalystic reactor) for reduction of NOx emission factor of A-2, A-4, and A-7 power generation boiler facilities were 4.300kgNOx/ton, 2.460kgNOx/ton and 1.796kgNOx/ton, respectively. The capacity of A-2 facility was about two times than that of A-4 and A-7. These emission factors were lower than those at facilities in other areas of korea, because of using low NOx burner of power generation boiler. The emission factors of NOx at A-3 and A-6 incinerator facilities were 0.147kgNOx/ton and 0.221kgNOx/ton which were lower than other facilities, respectively, because these facilities incinerate municipal solid waste of low heating value and uwe SCR for reducing NOx concentration.

This study was conducted for developing the emission factors of nitrogen oxide(NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO) from the combustion boilers burning liquefied natural gas (LNG). These emission factors were compared with those of U.S. EPA and European Environment Agency (EEA). NOx and CO concentration in the flow gas were measured using Kane-May, KM9106 and Thermo Environmental Instruments Inc., 42C-HL. Measurement were conducted at thirty industrial and commercial LNG boilers. Emission factors were calculated on the basis of fuel consumption (kg-pollutant/㎥-fuel burned). NOx concentration at industrial boiler was 14~125 ppm and it was measured as 35~125 ppm at commercial boiler. NOx emission factors of industrial boiler and commercial boiler were 1.84kg/$m^3$ and 2.09kg/$m^3$, respectively. NOx emission factor of commercial boiler was higher than that of industrial boiler. The NOx emission factors estimated in this study were lower than those of U.S. EPA and higher than those of EEA. Average CO emission factor of industrial boiler was 0.65 kg/$m^3$ and at commercial boiler it was 0.70kg/$m^3$, CO emission factor at industrial boiler was lower than that at commercial boiler.
This survey was performed to investigate the NOx emission factors at 3 Municipal Solid Waste Incinerators(MSWI) and 5 Power generation boilers in Seoul. The NOx concentrations were measured before and after control systems. The results were as follows. 1) The NOx reduction efficiencies of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) using ammonia as reducing agent ranged from 53.7% to 89.9%. The NOx reduction efficiencies of SCR using methanol as reducing agent, Non- Selective Catalytic Reduction (NSCR) using ethanol as reducing agent and low-NOx burner were 20.8%, 29.1% and 24.7%, respectively. 2) The NOx emission factors at A-1, A-2 and A-3 facilities of MSWI were 0.786, 0.127 and 0.594 kg Nox/ton fuel, respectively. The factors of A-1 and A-3 facilities were higher than the average value of Korea. 3) The NOx emission factors at B-1, B-2, B-3, B-4 and B-5 facilities of Power generation boiler were 2.109, 0.726, 4.106, 8.378 and 5.168 kg Nox/ton fuel, respectively. The factors of B-4 and B-5 facilities were higher than the average value of Korea.

Considering international status of our country as world class ship builder and geographical characteristics encircled by sea in three facets, controlling of air pollutants emission from marine engines becomes more and more important issue in recent days. Implementation of immediate pollutants emission control regulation and standardization of test and certification procedure are required to reduce air pollution from marine engines. But cost increments due to additional equipment of emission control device and development and certification test expenses as well as depreciation of fuel economy should be considered. To satisfy those air pollution reduction and economic requirements, we should make our own interpretation of IMO standard and implementation schedule depending on our country's status. For this purpose we measured NOx emission from small and middle class marine engines to calculate emission factor and total pollutant emission in our country. With the comparison and analysis of other countries emission control regulation we proposed basic data of total emission from marine engine and future emission control standard in our country. According to our estimation, 62% of total NOx emission of marine engines comes from fishing boat and 38% from commercial vessels. The portion of NOx emission from marine engine is 18.6% of whole country NOx emission. Due to the voyage characteristics of middle and large vessel and necessity of international harmonization of marine engine pollutants emission control standard, it is inevitable to adopt IMO standard for middle and large marine engines. But considering technological and cost effect of fishing boat operating in near sea, it is resonable to set a standard within 80% of measured value at the moment and gradually implement the same IMO standard in near future.
Background and objective: While response measures to particulate matters in rural areas are limited due to poor inventory record keeping in the agricultural sector, it is necessary to control agricultural waste vinyl and the emission of precursors released from open burning and the secondary generation of particulate matters. Currently, the open burning emission calculation method uses the definition prescribed in CAPSS by the National Institute of Environmental Research. Methods: This study presented an open burning emission calculation formula for agricultural waste vinyl, which is included as agricultural waste. As for activity data, the open burning ratio of agricultural waste vinyl, and the annual incineration volume provided in the Status Survey by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs were applied. The emission factor was generated through incineration tests on three agricultural plastic film samples collected by the Korea Environment Corporation. Results: Among precursors, SOx and NOx were selected and their emission features were monitored with incineration experiment infrastructure based on the EPA 5G method. The highest emission concentration by agricultural waste type was concentrated in the first and second quarters. As for emission factor of SO2, it was calculated at 98.25 g/kg for mulching-use LDPE, 52.31 g/kg for greenhouse-use LDPE, and 14.40 g/kg for HDPE. As for NOx, it was calculated at 18.21 g/kg for mulching-use LDPE, 16.49 g/kg for greenhouse-use LDPE, and 10.67 g/kg for HDPE. Conclusion: This test confirmed the incineration features of PE-based plastics, ascertained the SOx emission factor that had not been included in open burning in the past, and established that low NOx emission concentration is interfered by soil mixed with livestock excretions. The findings from this study are expected to contribute to improving the system for controlling air pollutants in rural environments.
The combustion test used DTF was performed to obtain the characteristics of NOx emission and reduction. In this test, major factor of NOx emission was a stoichiometric air ratio. At the onset of combustion to be rich oxygen, NOx was produced rapidly. Optimum condition for NOx reduction was formed under about AR:0.7 in the combustion test of Alaska coal. Investigations were undertaken with 200KW(th) test combustor. In combustion test, the major variables were coal feed ratio of center/outer, stoichiometric air ratio at the onset of combustion. The lowest NOx emission, 182ppm(6% O2 base), was achieved at about AR:0.6 of the first combustion stage with low NOx burner. Also, unburned carbon content of char collected in this combustion condition was about 1wt%.

Up to the present time, many methods to estimate emissions from a particular diesel engines have wholly depended on the quantity of diesel fuel consumed. Then, the recommended emission factors were normalized by fuel consumption, and further total activity was estimated by the total fuel consumed. One of main purposes in the study is newly to develop emission factors for the railroad diesel rolling stock (RDRS) and to estimate a total amount of major gaseous pollutants from the RDRS in Korea. Prior to develop a Korean mode emission factor. the emission factor from the USEPA was simply applied for comparative studies. When applying the USEPA emission factors, total exhaust emissions from the RDRS in Korea were estimated by 28,117tons of NOx, 2,832.3tons of CO, and 1,237.5tons of HC, etc in 2001. In this study, a emission factor for the RDRS, so called the KoRail mode (the Korean Railroad mode) has been developed on the basis of analyzing the driving pattern of the Gyeongbu-Line especially for the line-haul mode. Explicitly to make the site specific emission factors, many uncertainty problems concerning weighting factors for each power mode, limited emission test, incomplete data for RDRS, and other important input parameters were extensively examined. Total exhaust emissions by KoRail mode in Korea were estimated by 10,960tons of NOx, and 4,622tons of CO, and so on in the year of 2001. The emissions estimated by the USEPA mode were 2.6 times higher for NOx, and 1.6 times lower for CO than those by the KoRail mode. As a conclusion, based on the emission calculated from both the USEPA mode and the KoRail mode, the RDRS is considered as one of the significant mobile sources for major gaseous pollutants and thus management plans an(1 control strategies for the RDRS must be established to improve air quality near future in Korea.

This study analyzed the effect of four control factors, RPM, load, EGR rate and cooling water temperature on the exhaust emissions of the small DI diesel engine. The amount of NOx and smoke emissions were measured through experiments for three levels of four control factors according to orthogonal array table, and the effect of four factors on NOx and smoke emissions was analyzed quantitatively. The main results obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1. RPM, load and EGR rate have a great influence on NOx and smoke emissions, and the effect of cooling water temperature is negligible. 2. As RPM and load increases NOx emission increases and decreases sharply as the EGR rate increases. 3. Smoke emission decreases or increases randomly according to RPM and load, but increases sharply in proportion to the EGR rate. 4. EGR rate has the greatest effect on NOx and smoke emissions by more than 60% of contribution to variance, especially in the case of NOx emission, EGR rate represents a significant result even under the confidence level of 99% on ANOVA.

Actual driving pattern of each motor vehicle type was measured and analyzed in Seoul area and vehicle emission rate was measured and traffic data were used to estimate vehicular emission factor and motor vehicle-related air pollutant emission. The analysis of contribution ratio of each vehicle type showed that LPG taxi's took 38.1% of total vehicular CO, gasoline passenger cars 37.5%, therefore, these cars are major sources of CO, gasoline passenger cars took 45.4% of total vehicular HC, motorcycles 25.3%, LPG taxi's 16.2%, so motorcycles can be said to play an important role in HC emission. For NOx, buses and trucks were thought to be major sources as buses took 36.8% and truck 26.4%. Diesel vehicles, on the other hand, took most $SO_2$ and particulate matter emission. Total emission from motor vehicles in Seoul was estimated to be 547 t/day of CO, 68t/day of HC, 163t/day of NOx, 18t/day of $SO_2$ and 19t/day of paticulate matter.
The results of this study shows that the combustor temperature ranged from 848.27 to 1,026.80 ℃, averaging about 976.61 ℃, and the NOx concentration increased as the temperature increased. The urea usage ranged from 291.00 to 693.00 kg d-1, averaging about 542.34 kg d-1, and the NOx concentration decreased as the urea usage increased. Residence time was about 3.38 to 9.17 s, averaging about 5.22 s, about 2.61 times larger than the 2 s of the design details. This is 1,086 kg h-1, averaging about 55.71%, compared to the 1,950 kg h-1 SRF input permission standard. The combustion chamber area is constant, but the residence time is shown to increase with the decrease of exhaust gas. The O2/CO ratio was 847.05 to 14,877.34, averaging about 3,111.30, and the NOx concentration slightly increased as the O2/CO ratio increased. As the combustor temperature and O2/CO ratio increased, the combustion reaction with nitrogen in the air increased and the NOx concentration slightly increased. As the urea usage and residence time increased, the NOx concentration decreased slightly with an increase in reactivity with NOx. The NOx concentration at the stack ranged from 7.88 to 34.02 ppm with an average of 19.92 ppm, and was discharged within the 60 ppm emission limit value. The NOhx emission factor was 1.058 to 1.795 kg ton-1, averaging about 1.450 kg ton-1. This value was about 24.87% of the maximum emission factor of 5.830 kg ton-1 of other solid fuels. Other synthetic resins and industrial wastes were 79.80% and 43.65% compared to 1.817 kg ton-1 and 3.322 kg ton-1, respectively. This value was similar to 1.400 kg ton-1 of RDF in the NIER notice (2005-9), 10.98% compared to the maximum SRF of 13.210 kg ton-1. Therefore, the NOx emission factor had a large deviation.
