Study on Operating Characteristics for NOx Reduction in Ultra Low NOx Burner Combustion Using 80 kW Furnace (80 kW 초 저 NOx 단일 버너 연소로에서 NOx 감소를 위한 운전특성 연구)

  • This experimental study investigates the design parameters to achieve ultra low NOx combustion of coal using a 80 kW capacity single-burner furnace. The influence of key design parameters such as SN, overall and burner-zone equivalence ratios, primary/secondary air ratio, overfire air (OFA) ratio were tested for a total of 81 cases. The results showed that weak swirl intensity of the burner leads to higher NOx emission whereas strong swirl intensity accompanies increased CO concentration desipte lower NOx emission. Therefore, finding an appropirate swirl intensity is essential for the burner design. Larger flow rate of secondary air increased NOx emission, whereas smaller flow rate stretches the flame and increased CO emission. The lowest NOx emission of 82 ppm (6% O2) was achieved at the optimal condition of the present burner deisgn. It is expected to furrther lower the NOx emission by introducing splitting the burner secondary air into three or four streams.

  • In this experiment, we made the plasma reactor which adhere needle electrode in order to treat safely an NOx which was included in the gas. Also we experimently investigated characteristics of equipment and inspected efficiency. As a reaction gas, by using mixture gas of $NO/N_2$ and $N_2/O_2$, we setted up initial NO concentration and gas flow rate was set at 2 ${\iota}$/min. As a reaction characteristics of NOx, when discharge input power was high, NO concentration decreased and when the oxygen concentration increased, the NO decomposition was easy and decomposition energy efficiency was high. Also in case that NO concentration increased, NO decomposition energy efficiency was high but decomposition rate was low. The characteristics of ozone, when discharge input power was high, ozone increased and when $NO/N_2$ concentration increased, the ozone decreased.

  • 자동차엔진의 연소과정에 상사하는 밀폐정적연소실을 주연소실과 대향 2개 부연소실로 분할하고 오리피스로 연결하였다. 이때 부연소실로부터 주연소실로 분출하는 대향분출염 연소에 의한 질소산화물 배출저감특성을 연소방식, 연소실형상 그리고 연료종류를 변경한 수종의 실험으로 조사하였다. 질소산화물농도, 연소실 최고압력, 화염전파과정의 고속도슐리렌사진 가시화를 수행한 결과, 대향분출염 연소방식을 도입하연 연소실의 중앙부공간이 상대적으로 넓은 경우에 고부하운전과 동시에 질소산화물의 배출량도 저감할 수 있었다. 그러나 연료의 종류는 질소산화물생성에 매우 영향이 적었다.

  • Flue gas recirculation(FGR) is an effective combustion technique for reducing nitrogen oxides(NOx) and is applied in various fields of low-pollution combustion. Continuing the previous study, a numerical analysis was conducted to identify changes of flame characteristics and NOx formation mechanism with applying FGR technique in CH4/air premixed counterflow flames. NOx emitted was divided into four main reaction paths(thermal NO, prompt NO, N2H and N2O), showing relatively the production rate of NO with the recirculation ratio. As a result, thermal NO contributed greatly to the overall NO whereas the effect of N2H was minimal. In addition, emission index of NO was compared as the recirculation ratio increased by modifying the UC San Diego mechanism to examine the contribution of thermal NO.

  • 광화학 스모그 현상을 재현하기 위한 메카니즘은 약 20,000개의 반응식과 수천개의 종이 포함되어야 하므로 자세한 반응 메카니즘을 포함하는 데는 한계가 있다(Dodge, 2000). 최근에 morphecule이라 부르는 대리종(surrogates)을 사용하는 방법(morphecule approach)이 개발되었다. 이 메카니즘은 반응 속도, 생성율, 생성물의 형태를 포함하여 lumped surrogates와 관련된 인자들이 모사하는 전체 시간 중 각 t시간 동안 일정하고 그 시간이후에는 인자들이 변화한다고 가정한다. 또한 특성이 비슷한 유기 화합물의 다양한 그룹을 표현할 때 morphecule이라 부르는 특정 화학종들을 사용한다.   • Flame structures and NOx formation characteristics in the flame lets of coflow and counterflow diffusion flame are numerically studied. Calculations were carried out twice with the $C_2-Full$ and $C_2-Thermal$ Mechanism for each flame. Mixture fractions and scalar dissipation rates are used as the parameters to compare the flame let structures and NOx formation characteristics quantitatively. It was found that there is a similarity in flame temperature and stable species profiles except radical profiles between two flamelets. And there are some differences in NOx concentration and production rates. These results imply that the flow effects must be considered in calculations for NOx formation of turbulent flames using Laminar Flamelet Model.

  • 미분탄 순산소 연소는 기존의 연소 방법과는 달리 산화제로 O2/CO2를 사용함으로써 NOx의 발생을 감소시킬 수 있으며, 고농도의 CO2를 쉽게 회수 할 수 있어 큰 주목을 받고 있다. NOx의 배출저감을 위한 기술로는 로 내에서의 재연소(reburning), 단계(staging) 연소등이 있으며, 후처리 NOx 저감기술로는 SCR, SNCR등이 있다. 그러나 이러한 기술들은 비용이 비싸다는 단점이 있으며, 미분탄 순산소 연소조건에서는 화염 안정성이 감소하는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 화염의 안정성과 밀접한 관련을 가지는 화염전파속도에 대해 미분탄 순산소 연소에서 석탄 입자의 물성치와 주위 기체의 특성이 화염전파속도에 미치는 영향을 수치적 방법을 통하여 해석하였으며, NO 저감의 한 방법인 연소가스 재순환(Flue Gas Recirculation)에 따른 연소특성 및 NO 생성 메커니즘의 영향과 석탄을 가스화 시키는 방법에 따른 연료의 연소특성에 대해 해석하였다.

  • One of the methods for low-pollution combustion, flue gas recirculation(FGR) is effective to reduce nitrogen oxides and it was applied in CH4/air premixed counterflow flames to identify the change of flame characteristics and NOx mechanisms. Considering that the mole fraction of the products varied depending on the strain rates, the major products: CO2, H2O, O2 and N2 were recirculated as a diluent to reflect the actual combustion system. With the application of the FGR technique, a turning point of maximum flame temperature under certain strain rate condition was found. Furthermore as the recirculation ratio increased, the tendency of NO was changed before and after the turning point and the analysis on thermal NO and Fenimore NO production was conducted.

  • The present study has numerically investigated the effects of the oxidizer-side nitrogen dilution on the precise structure and NOx formation characteristics of the turbulent syngas nonpremixed flames. Eulerian particle flamelet model was used to predicted the NOx formation characteristics in the turbulent syngas swirling nonpremixed flames. Current numerical simulation was conducted for the syngas gas turbine combustor. Numericla results indicate that as the H2O portion is increased in diluent, the formation of NOx decreased effectively in turbulent syngas swirl nonpremixed flames.

The Effect of Flame Radiation on NOx Emission Characteristic in Hydrogen Turbulent Diffusion Flames (수소 난류확산화염에서 NOx 생성특성에 대한 복사분율의 영향)

  • The relationship among the flame radiation, NOx emissions, residence time, and global strain rate are examined for turbulent non-premixed jet flames with wide variations in coaxial air conditions. Measurements of NOx emission, flame geometry and flame radiation were made to explain the NOx emission scaling based on global parameters such as flame residence time, global strain rate, and radiant fraction. The overall 1/2-power scaling is observed in coaxial air flames, irrespective of coaxial air conditions, but the degree of deviation from the l/2-slope curve in each case differs from one another. From the comparison between the results of pure hydrogen flames and those of helium diluted hydrogen flames, it is observed that flame radiation plays a significant role in pure hydrogen flames with coaxial air and the deviation from 1/2-power scaling may be explained in two reasons: the difference in the flame radiation and the difference in jet similarity in coaxial air flames. From the radiation measurements, more detailed explanations on these deviations were suggested.
