The relationship between the rates of rice grain shattering caused by typhoon and characteristics considered to be related with grain shattering such as heading date, amount of grain production and ethylene evolution of rice plant grown under the different methods of fertilization was analyzed. The grain shattering rates which was traced by the fallen grains after typhoon 'Dinah' occured in August 28 to 29, 1987, in the plots with nitrogen such as nitrogen alone, NP, NK, NPK, NPK + SiO$_2$ and NPK+compost plot etc. was lower than that in without nitrogen plots such as no fertilizer, compost alone, PK, P and K alone etc. and the amount of ethylene evolved from the leaf blades also showed the same trends. The correlation between the grain shattering rate and grain yield was negative but ethylene evolution was positively correlated with grain shattering rate of rice plant.ice plant.
Paljintanggagmbang has been used for cure of tumor as a traditional medicine without any experimental evidence to support the rational basis for its clinical use. This study was carried out to evaluate. the possible therapeutic or antitumoral effects of Paljintanggagmbang extract against tumor, and to carry out some mechanisms responsible for its effect. Experimental studis were performed for measurement of Humoral and Cellular Immune Response and Phagocytosis in Mice treated with mitomytion C(MMC) and Paljintanggagmbang alone and combination. The results obtained in this study were as follows 1. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract decresed size of tumors cell which MCA induced. 2. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract decresed growth of the tumors which S 180 transplant. 3. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract decresed reproduction of A549, Hep3b, 3LL cell and S 180 in vivo. 4. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract incresed activity of the NK cell. These results also suggested that effect of Paljintanggagmbang might be chiefly due to nonspecific enhancement of Humoral and Cellular Immune Response and Phagocytosis in Mice treated with MMC and Paljintanggagmbang alone and combination.
Objectives : This study was guided to estimate inhibitory effects against hepatic metastasis and activation of immunocytes by Carthami Semen Herbal Acupuncture. Methods : Colon26-L5 carcinoma cells were injected through hepatic portal vein to induce hepatic metastatic cancer. Changes in weight, morphology of the cancer were estimated and cytokine level was analyzed to produce immunological changes. Results: The experimental group was significantly decreased metastatic size and proliferation compared with the control group. Observing immunocytes from the spleen of experimental group T-lymphocytes were significantly increased. As compared with control group, the differentiation of total T cell, helper T cell, cytotoxic T cell, Macrophage and NK cell was increased. Measuring the level of cytokine $IFN-{\gamma}$ which stimulates Th 1 was significantly increased in splenocyte with Con A stimuli. $IFN-{\gamma}$ and IL-12 were significantly increased in peritoneal exudate macrophage with LPS stimuli. Conclusion : These findings strongly indicate Carthami Semen Herbal Acupuncture improves immunity to inhibit the growth of cancer and metastasis.

Stephania delavayi Diels. has been used as an immune activator or an anti-inflammatory drug in China. We examined the immune modulation effect and 7-days repeated-dose toxicity to validate its biological safety and efficiency. Mice were repeatedly administrated with 50 mg/kg S. delavayi Diels. daily by I.P for 7 days. S. delavayi Diels. induced B cell activation but had no effect on other immune cells such as T cell, natural killer (NK) cell, and macrophage ($M{\varphi}$). S. delavayi Diels.-treated group exhibited no statistical significance from the control group in physical conditions; body weight, complete blood count (CBC), serum biochemical indexes etc. There was no difference between the control group and S. delavayi Diels.-treated group in gross findings such as histopathological alteration. In conclusion, S. delavayi Diels. is safe above the dose of immune modulation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of dynamic imagery therapy on "anger-in" and immune function in patients with breast cancer. Method: Dynamic imagery therapy was given for 10 sessions with 2 times informative education. Data collection was from June, 24th to August, 12th 2002. The participants were experimental group 15, control group 15. This study was designed using a quasi-experimental approach with non-equivalent Pre test-Post test Design. The instruments used in this study include the anger scale developed by Spielberger(1972) and modified by Chon, Kyum Koo (1996), The data was analysed with $\chi^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA and ANCOVA. Result: 1) That the level of "Anger-in" in patients will be significantly lower than that of the control group was supported (p<.001). 2) That the level of T3 lymphocyte and NK Cells, IgG. Cortisol in patients will be significantly lower than that of the control group was supported (T3, IgG: p<.05, Cortisol p<.001). Conclusion: The dynamic imagery therapy is suggested as an effective nursing intervention to reduce anger level and increase immune function for patients with breast cancer.
This study was undertaken to test the effects of Daturae Flos(DF) and Daturae Semen(DS) on the cellular and humoral immune responses, and the functions of the cells involved in immunoinflammation. Both extracts decreased the activity of superoxide dismutase, and the decrease was greater in the mouse group which was treated with DS. Both extracts decreased the phagocytic activity as measured by assessing the number of the latex particle within the phagocyte after incubation of peritoneal macrophages with fluorochrome-labelled latex particle and decreased natural killer cell activity as measured by enumerating the viable YAC-1 cells after treatment of target cells with splenic natural killer cells. Both extracts also decreased the cell-mediated immunity in vivo as assessed by measuring the ear thickness after sensitization and challenge with dinitrofluorobenzene, however, had no effects on the humoral immune responses as measured by checking hemolysin and hemagglutinin titers after immunization with sheep red blood cells(SRBC). Extracts of Semen caused decrease in the number of rosette forming cells between the splenic cells and SRBC. The results of this study suggested that both Daturae extracts could depress the immunoinflammation by affecting the various cell types involved in inflammation.

Reactive oxygen species are known to mediate various pathological conditions associated with malaria. In this study, the antioxidant potential of Clerodendrum violaceum leaf extracts, an indigenous antimalarial remedy, was evaluated. Total phenol, flavonoid, selenium, vitamins C and E contents of Clerodendrum violaceum leaf extracts were determined. The free radical scavenging activities of the extracts against DPPH, superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide coupled with their reducing power were also evaluated in vitro. Moreover, responses of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) in a rodent malaria model to a 4-day administration of Clerodendrum violaceum leaf extracts were also evaluated. The methanolic extract was found to contain the highest amounts of antioxidant compounds/element and also demonstrated the highest free radical scavenging activity in vitro. The results showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in SOD and CAT activities with a concurrent significant (p < 0.05) increase in GPx and GR activities in both erythrocytes and liver of untreated Plasmodium berghei NK65-infected animals compared to the uninfected animals. The extracts were able to significantly increase (p < 0.05) SOD and CAT activities and significantly reduce (p < 0.05) GPx and GR activities in both the liver and erythrocytes compared to those observed in the untreated infected animals. The results suggest the augmentation of the antioxidant system as one of the possible mechanisms by which Clerodendrum violaceum extract ameliorates secondary effects of malaria infection, alongside its antiplasmodial effect in subjects.

Using this PCR method, specific GM maize was monitored in commercialized foods and feed.
Basidiomycete, Agaricus blazei murill has grown Brazil naturally. It was first cultivated 1997 in Korea. Proteoglycan or polysaccharide which have the effect of immunopotency and anticancer were extracted from it. From the mycelium of cultivated mushroom, were extracted lectin, linoleic acid, FIII-2-b, and simmilar to glucomannan from fruit body of Basidiomycete Agaricus blazei. Fruit body was more studied than mycelium. The experiments were most in vivo study. The effect were shown on S-180, MethA tumor, Ehrlich ascites carcinoma, Shionogi carcinoma 42, Meth A fibrosarcoma by transferation of tumor cell line, specially effectiveness on the S-180. About immunopotenciation, were shown as activation of NK cell, pancreatic T-cell, helper T cell, enhancement of population of cytotoxity T cell. It was effect on the MethA tumor cells in vitro cell cytotoxity and has induction of apoptosis. Forthermore cytotoxity of many other tumor cell line, aneiognensis, cell cyle studies will be needed.
In this study, the optimum conditions for mycelium culture of the mushroom Tricholoma matsutake and the inhibitory effect of the mycelium extracts no tyrosinase activity have been examined. When the extracts of the Tricholoma matsutake mycelia were tested for inhibitory activity on tyrosinase, it was found that the components extracted with ethyl acetate and water showed the highest inhibitory activity. The effect of antioxidants on the growth of mycelium and tyrosinase-inhibiting activity was also investigated. The results showed that tocopherol inhibited the growth in a concentration-dependent manner. In terms of tyrosinase-inhibiting activity, however, tocopherol was found to enhance the inhibitory activity.
