The fuel rods in the Pressurized water reactor are continuously supported by a spring system called a spacer grid which is one of the main structural components for the fuel rod cluster(fuel assembly). The fuel rods vibrate within the reactor due to coolant flow. Since the vibration, which is called flow-induced vibration(FIV) can wear away the surface of the fuel rod, it is important to understand it's vibration characteristics. In this paper, the vibration analyses and the tests for the dummy rods supported by New Doublet(ND) spacer grids are described. A new FE model which reflects the contact area between the rod and ND spacer grid spring is developed to replace the previous one by which a good agreement could not be obtained with the vibration test. The natural frequency and mode shape calculated by both the Previous FE model and the new one are compared with those of experiment for a single-spanned rod supported by two ND spacer grids. The results of the new model showed good agreement with the experiment compared with those of previous model. In addition. the new FE model is applied to the vibration analysis for the dummy rod of 2.189 mm tall continuously supported by five ND spacer grids. It is also obtained that the analysis results of the new FE model well agreed to experiment ones as the single-spanned rod.
We fabricated a high power Nd:YAG laser pumped by a 1 kW diode laser with a Lambertian-type diffusive reflector. Maximum cw power of 500 W with a slope efficiency of 49%, which corresponds to an optical efficiency of 46.7%, was obtained from a short linear resonator when a 5 mm rod was used. The efficiencies decreased when a 6 mm rod was used, due to the poor quality of the absorption distribution in the rod. The measured beam quality factor of 70, which is slightly smaller than the value calculated from the measured thermal focal lengths, shows that the absorption distribution in the rod is fairly uniform. iform.
This paper considered the prediction of the tension force in the design of a TLP tendon, particularly focusing on the springing problem. Springing is an important parameter that exerts a large tension in special cases. It is a nonlinear phenomenon and requires the 2nd-order wave loads to solve. In this paper, a new prediction method for springing and the resultant extreme tension on the tendon of a TLP is introduced. Using the 2nd-order response function computed using the commercial program WADAM, the probability density function of the 2nd-order tension is obtained from an eigenvalue analysis using a quadratic transfer function and sea spectra. A new method is then suggested to predict the extreme tension loads with respect to the number of occurrences. It is shown that the PDF suggested in this study properly predicts the extreme tension in comparison with the time histories of the 2nd-order tension. The expected tension force is larger than that from a linear analysis in the same time windows. This supports the use of the present method to predict the tension due to springing.
This study has been conducted to investigate the mating behavior, time sequence of mating and time limit with which female can fulfill spawning and brooding after pre-spawning molting in the giant fresh-water prawn, macrobrachium rosenbergii reared in the laboratory. the results obtained were summarized as follows. Mating happened spontaneously as the following sequences: courting gesture, seizure of female by male, mounting, turning of female, copulation. The entire mating lated approximately seven minutes. The endopodite of 2nd pleopod of male bore the appendix masculins whcih are male's secondary sex characteristic. cinciulli was formed at the distal portion of appendix interna which are on the upper portion of appendix masculins and helped stabilizing the connection of each side of 2nd pleopod during mating. After the connection of each side of 2nd plepod was fixed on the posterior portion of the thoracic sternum in female, a gelatinous spermatophore that emitted at the basipodite of 5th pereiopod during courting gesture was deposited on the ventral groove of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th pereiopod. time limit which female can fulfill copulation and brooding was from 3 hours to 15 hours after pre-spawning molting.

Laser surface hardening is beneficially used for surface treatment of structural steel. Due to very rapid heating and cooling rates, structural low-alloy steel(SCM4) can be hardened as self quenching. The aim of this research project is to improve the influence of the process laser parameters: laser power, spot size, surface roughness, and traverse speed. The laser beam is allowed to scan on the surface of the workpiece at the constant power(1095W), varying the traverse speed at 0.3m/min, 0.5m/min and 0.8m/min. The optical lens with the elliptical profile is designed to obtain a wide surface hardening area with uniform hardness. From the results of the experiment, it has been shown that the stable hardness is about 600$\sim$700Hv, when the laser power, focal position and the traverse speed are P=1095W, z=0mm and v=0.3m/min.
Creatine(Cr) and phosphocreatine(PCr), the important mediators of intracellular high-energy phosphate buffer system, were found in the tissues of mouse seminal vesicle and also in the extracellular fluids of seminal vesicle secretion. This study was performed m confirm that the secretion and accumulation of Cr and PCr is regulated by testosterone and its $5{\alpha}$-reduced metabolite, $5{\alpha}$-dihydrotestosterone(DHT). In addition, the effect of nandrolone decanoate(ND), a synthetic anabolic steroid, on the levels of Cr and PCr in the seminal vesicle was compared with those of testosterone propionate(TP) and DHT. Male Swiss-Webster mice were castrated and three groups of the castrates were treated with daily injection(sc) of same molar dose($1.45{\times}10^{-8}mol/g\;BW$) of TP, DHT, or ND. All three androgens rapidly increased weights of seminal vesicle tissue and fluid, and also increased concentrations of Cr and PCr in the tissue and fluid. However, ND was least effective in increasing seminal vesicle weights, whereas ND was as effective as, or in some cases, more effective than, TP or DHT in increasing Cr and PCr levels in the tissue and fluid. The results confirm that the accumulation of Cr and PCr in the seminal vesicles is regulated by testosterone and DHT, and also suggest that the effects of androgens on seminal vesicle growth and secretory activity may be differentiated.

Multiple sequence alignments of the Bombyx mori fibroin light chain gene (fib-L) from hybrids and from Chinese and Japanese strains demonstrated that 51.6% of the fib-L third intron is conserved. One of these conserved segments, 41 bp long, contains the sequence CGTTATTATACATATT, which is duplicated in the B. mori Nd-$s^D$ mutant. In the present work, electrophoretic mobility assays and computational analyses revealed a major peak of intrinsic bent DNA within the segment that undergoes breakage in the previously-described Nd-$s^D$ mutation. This result suggested that this intrinsically-curved region might mediate DNA cleavage and enhance recombination events in the third intron of the Bombyx mori fib-L gene.

Dielectric properties were investigated at Mn doped 0.17($Ba_{0.53}$, $Pb_{0.47}$)0-$0.16Nd_2O_3$-$0.67TiO_2$ system in microwave frequency. It was observed that dielectric constant of 90.1, quality factor of 1320 (at 3.8GHz) and temperature coefficient of resonance frequency 2.3 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ for 0.5wt% Mn doped 0.17($Ba_{0.53}$, $Pb_{0.47}$)0-$0.16Nd_2O_3$-$0.67TiO_2$ system in sintering condition $1290^{\circ}C$/2hr. The quality factor increase due to the compensation effect of Mn ions yp to 0.5wt% and the decrease due to the interface relaxation effect. The temperature coefficient of resonance frequency increases to negative direction with increasing the amounts of Mn.

Recently, there have been active researches regarding endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). In this study, fifteen small freshwater streams in Cholla-namdo province, South Korea were investigated with respect to the concentration of the endocrine disruptors - Bisphenol A (BPA), styrene monomer (SM), styrene dimer (SD), and styrene trimer (ST) by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Measured concentration of the target compounds in the sampled water ranged from
Two different compositions of melt spun magnetic alloys, $ Nd_4Fe_{80}B_{16} and Nd_4Fe_{76}Co}\_3Hf_{0.5}Ga_{0.5}B_{16},$ were characterized in terms of magnetic properties and thermal behaviors. It was found that the addition of Hf and Ga effectively slow down the crystallization rate of the nanocomposite $ Nd_2Fe_{14}B/Fe_3B$ magnet. Coercivity(iHc) changes only slightly with varying the post annealing conditions confirming that iHc is not a sensitive magnetic quantity as a function of grain size and exchange coupled interaction. The experimentally observed behaviors of Mr and Hc do not vary monotonously with in-creasing grain size which is not in agreement with the numerically calculated result near the critical grain size (dc). The plot of the grain size dependence for the remanence and coercivity in isotrop!c nanocomposite magnets has been revised in this study. The maxium energy product, $(B, H)_{max}$ =15.34 MGOe, and a reduced remanence, Mr/Ms=0.84 were obtained, respectively.
