NC tool path generation of arbitrarily shaped pockets

  • In machining die cavities or mechanical parts, we often encounter the needs to remove a material within a given boundary. Even though this pocket cutting capability has been implemented in many NC packages, most of them can handle convex shaped pockets bounded by curves of limited types and numbers. In this work, a procedure has been developed to machine pockets of a free surface bounded by lines, circular arcs and free curves. Also, the cutter location data is computed directly without using iterative method for better computational efficiency.

  • Despite of the low productivity, the manual programming for NC machining is still widly used because of it's economical reasons. In this study, the computer assisted manual programming system CAMP which assits the efficient verification of MCD(Machine Control Data) is presented. The system can detect sysntax errors, graphically display tool motions and eventually diagnose programming techniques. The case study is applied for the NC turning operations.

  • 일반적으로 10,000 rpm 이상의 고속, 고이송 가공이 수행되는 고속가공에서 절삭력의 급격한 증가는 치명적인 결과를 초래할 수 있다. 따라서 실제 가공에 앞서 NC code에 존재하는 에러 유무를 검출하고, 주어진 절삭 조건의 적합성을 사전에 검사하는 NC 모의 가공 시스템의 중요성이 점점 강조되고 있는 실정이다. 절삭 영역의 탐색에는 일반적으로 Z-map 방식이 사용되고 있다. Z-map 방식은 자료구조의 단순성과 완결성으로 인하여 계산속돈가 라르고 오류 발생의 가능성이 상대적으로 낮기 때문에 상용 CAM 시스템은 대부분 이 방식을 기반으로 하고 있다.(중략)

  • 본 연구에서는 여러가지 평판 캠 기구에 대하여 효율적이며 정밀한 설계 및 가공을 할 수 있도록 CAD/CAM 소프트웨어를 개발하는데 목적이 있다. 즉, 주어진 캠 곡선과 캠 기구의 구성조건을 바탕으로 포락선 이론에 의하여 캠 형상을 구하고, 원하 는 가공 방법을 선정하여 황삭가공과 정삭가공에 대한 NC 파트프로그램을 얻는 기능들 을 하나의 통합된 CAD/CAM 소프트웨어로 구성하여 생산성과 효율성 및 정밀성 향상에 기여하고자 한다.

  • High-speed milling machine is being sold mainly in the market of die and mold industries, because it reduces machining time greatly as proportion to the spindle speed of machine tool. From the experimental milling tests, it has been cleared that the ball end mill is quite suitable for high speed milling and also tool wear reduces in higher speed milling condition. And a new milling concept with ultra high speed over 100, 000 rpm is proposed for solving the various problems such as NC cutter path generation and NC feed conformity etc.

  • This paper presents the real time control method of 5-axis NC machine for high precision and productivity based on the curvature theory, of a ruled surface. The trajectory, of NC machine is described by, way of a ruled surface generated by the points on part surface and tool axis direction vector. The curvature theory, of a ruled surface is then applied to deter-mine the motion parameters of the 5-axis machine for control. The controller computes position, orientation, and differential motion parameters of the tool in each sampling period. The real-time approach produces smoother surfaces and requires substantially less machining time compared to conventional off-line approaches. The propose real-time control method based of the curvature theory of a ruled surface may give new methodology of precision 5-axis machine control.

  • 5-axis NC machining has a good advantage of the accessibility of tool motion by adding two rotary axes. It offers numerous advantages such as expanding machining fields in parts of turbo machineries like impeller, propeller, turbine blade and rotor, reasonable tool employment and great reduction of the set-up process. However, as adding two rotary axes, it is difficult to choose suitable machining conditions in terms of cutter path and cutter posture at a cutter contact point. Therefore in this paper, it is proposed to decide suitable machining condition through an experimental method such as adopting various cutter paths, cutter postures types. Also, in order to increase the efficiency of 5-axis machining, it is necessary to minimize the cutter posture changes and create a continuous cutter path while avoiding interference. This study, by using an MC-space algorithm for interference avoidance and an MB-spline algorithm for continuous control, is intended to create a 5-axis machining cutter path with excellent surface quality and economic feasibility. finally, this study will verify the effectiveness of the suggested method through verification processing.

A study on efficient machining of smooth drafting surface using CAM software (CAM 소프트웨어를 활용한 완만한 구배면의 효율적인 가공에 관한 연구)

  • In the mold industry, CAM software has been introduced to solve the impossible or time-consuming part of the mold industry because the increase in labor costs, the drop in mold price, and the short delivery time are tasks to be solved not only in the manufacturing industry but also in the mold industry as a whole. In order to reduce the processing time and improve the surface roughness, we have been conducting various researches for efficient machining. This study was carried out to compare the ball end mill and radius end mill tools with the Power mill software and NC brain software under the same conditions and to find out the most efficient method of machining the smooth drafting surface and improving the surface roughness. (1) By machining the smooth drafting surface using radius end mill, the machining time is 23.7% faster than when using ball end mill. (2) Surface roughness when machined with radius end mill is smoother than when using ball end mill. Based on these results, it can not be applied to all shapes, but if it is a relatively wide and simple gradient shape, the raster machining method using radius end mill can be more effective in terms of delivery and quality than machining with ball end mill.

공작기계용 자동 측정 및 해석 시스템에 관한 연구

  • The integrated management system IMMC system) is developed for machining, measuring and checking by using IBM-PC under Borland C $\^$++/ environment. MMC system consists of following systems : DNC system, MascMC system (for measuring and checking) and MascCAM system : DNC system, MascNC system (for measuring and checking) and MascCAM system (for CAM). And some other modules support MMC system for practical usages. A vertical machining center equipped with FANUC 0MC is used for experiments. Feasibility of the system is confirmed by a large amount of experiments.

  • Thus paper deals with a study of the automatic machining and measurement system based on Features. The system includes following 5 modules : a feature-based design module, an automatic NC programming module, an automatic measurement programming module, and a simulation module. The system is developed by using IBM-PC in the AutoCAD and the BORLAND c $\^$++/ environment. A vertical machining center equipped with FANUC 0MC is used for experiments. Performance of the system is confirmed by a large amount of experiment.
