Study on the Development of Post-Processor for 5-Axis NC Machining (5축 가공용 Post-Processor 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study deals with the method of post-processing in the automatic tool path generation for 5-axis NC machining. The 5-axis NC machining cannot only cope with the manufacturing of complicated shapes, but also offers numerous advantages such as reasonable tool employment, great reduction of set-up process and so on. Thus 5-axis NC machining has been used for aircraft parts, mold and die as well as for complicated shapes such as impeller, propeller and rotor. However, most of the present CAM systems for 5-axis NC machining have limited functions in terms of tool collision, machine limits and post-processing. Especially 5-axis machine configurations are various according to the method which the rotational axes are adapted with the table and spindle. For that reason, In many cases the optimal numerical control (NC) data cannot be obtained or considerable time is consumed. To solve this problem, we applied a general post-processor for 5-axis NC machining. The validity of this post-processor should be experimentally confirmed by successfully milling to a helix shaped workpiece.

  • Measurements of circular motion accuracy of NC lathe have achieved with ball bar systems proposed by Bryan, but the ball bar systems have ifluenced on the measuring data by way of the accuracy of the balls and the contacts of balls and bar seats. Therefore in this study, error data during of circular motion of ATC(Automatic Tool Changer) of NC lathe will be acquired by reading zx plane coordinates using two optical linear scales. Two optical linear scales of measuring unit are fixed on z-x plane of NC lathe, and the moving part is fixed to ATC and then is made to receive data of coordinates of the ATC at constant time intervals using tick pulses comming out from computer. And then, error data files of radial direction of circular motion are calculated with the data read, and the aspect of circular motion are modeled to plots, and are analysed by means of statistical treatments of circularity, means, standard deviations etc.

  • This paper presents a new method for the optimization of feed rate in sculptured surface machining. A NC verification model based on Z-map was utilized to obtain chip load according to feed per tooth. This optimization method can regenerate a new NC program with respect to the commanded cutting conditions and the NC program that was generated from CAM system. The regenerated NC program has not only the same data of the ex-NC program but also the updated feed rate in every block. The new NC data can reduce the cutting time and produce precision products with almost even chip load to the feed per tooth. This method can also reduce tool chipping and make constant tool wear.

  • STEP-NC 는 기존의 G-code 를 대체할 새로운 CNC 인터페이스 언어로써 현재 밀링 공정에 대해서는 국제 표준 단계에 있으며 조만간 기존의 G-code 를 대체할 것으로 기대된다. 그러므로 국내에서도 CAD-CAM 업체, CNC maker, 공작기계 제작 업체, 사용자 등 생산 환경 전반에 걸쳐 이에 대한 대응이 시급하다. 본 논문에서는 국내에서의 STEP-NC 의 promotion 을 위해 1) STEP-NC data model 을 분석하고, 2) 파트 프로그램의 작성 방법을 자세히 설명하고, 3) STEP AP203 CAD 파일로부터 STEP-NC 파트 프로그램을 생성하는 과정을 Korea STEP-NC 시스템을 통해서 설명하였다.

  • This paper presents a new method of tool path optimization. A NC verification model based Z-map was utilized to obtain chip load in feed per tooth. This developed software can regenerate a NC program from cutting condition and the NC program that was generated in CAM. The regenerated NC program has not only all same data of the ex-NC program but also the new feed rates in every block. The new NC data can reduce the cutting time and manufacture precision dies with the same chip load in feed per tooth. This method can also prevent tool chipping and make constant tool wear. This paper considered the effects of acceleration and deceleration in feed rate change.

  • An expert system for NC part programming of NC lathe (ESPP-1) is developed as a part of Computer-Adied Manufacturing system. Conventional computer-assisted part programming system essentially requires an NC part programmer who is an expert in NC part programming. But the developed ESSP-1 can allow an inexperienced person to make an excellent NC data for the NC Lathe without any problem, since the system has a knowledge base composed of EIA and ISO NC code, feed rate, spindle speed, machining coordinates selection, and tool selection etc., which were directly evoked from some skilled NC part programmers, and referenced some machining handbooks. This paper discusses the algorithm of the expert system for NC part programming of the NC lathe (ESPP-1) and the performance comparisons between the developed expert system and the conventional system.

The Development of Grinding Robot System Using NC data and Off-line Programming (수치제어 데이터와 오프라인 프로그램을 이용한 연마 로봇 시스템 개발)

  • This paper presents a method of grinding and polishing automation of precision die after CNC machining. The method employs a robot system equipped with a pneumatic spindle and a special abrasive film pad. The robot program is automatically generated off-line program form a PC and downloaded to robot controller. Position and orientation data for the program is supplied form cutter contact (CC) data of NC machining process. This eliminates separate robot teaching process. This paper aims at practical automation of die finishing process which is very time consuming and suffering from shortage of workpeople. Time loss due to changeover from one product to another is eliminated by PC off-line programming exploiting appropriate NC machining data. Dextrous 6-axis robot with rigid wrist and simple tooling enables the process applicable to larger, rather complex 3 dimensional free surfaces.
