Development of a Three-Dimensional CAD System for Design of Drawing Dies for Automotive Panels (자동차 패널 드로잉 금형 설계를 위한 3 차원 CAD 시스템의 개발)

  • This paper describes a dedicated three-dimensional CAD system for design of drawing dies for automotive body panels. Since solid die models are useful not only for simulations for design verification, but also for NC tool path generation to machine dies and their Styrofoam patterns, 3-D CAD systems have been introduced in the tooling shop of automotive manufacturers. However, the work to build solid models requires a lot of time and effort if the designer uses only the general modeling capabilities of commercial 3-D CAD systems. To solve this problem, we customized a 3-D CAD system for the drawing die design. The system provides not only 3-D design capabilities, but also standard part libraries to enhance design productivity. By introducing this system, the drawing dies can be designed more rapidly in the 3-D space, and their solid data can be directly transferred to CAM tools for NC tool path generation and simulation tools for virtual manufacturing

NURBS Post-processing of Linear Tool Path (미소직선 공구경로의 NURBS 변환)

  • NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Spline) is widely used in CAD system and NC data for high speed machining. Conventional CAM system changes NURBS surface to tessellated meshes or Z-map model, and produces linear tool path. The linear tool path is not good for precise machining and high speed machining. In this paper, an algorithm to change linear tool path to NURBS one was studied, and the machining result of NURBS tool path was compared with that of linear tool path. The N-post, post-processing and virtual machining software was developed. The N-Post post-processes linear tool path to NURBS tool path and quickly shades machined product on OpenGL view and compares a machined product with original CAD surface. A virtual machined model of original tool path and post-processed tool path was compared to original CAD model. The machining error of post-processed NURBS tool path was reduced to 43%. The original tool path and NURBS tool path was used to machine general model using same machine tool and machining condition. The machining time of post-processed NURBS tool path was reduced up to 38%.

  • The straight bevel gear for automobile part has been manufactured by the cold forging instead of the gear machining tool for the mass production. The application to CAD/CAM system has been necessary in order to develop the precision product quickly by forging through the minimization of trial and error and confirm the reproducibility. In the study, the straight bevel gear with the crown teeth has been modelled by the CAD/CAM system. The master gear after the gearing test has been machined after the modelling, NC data generation and verification. The die for forging and the jig for machining has been manufactured using the master gear.

자유곡면의 연마가공을 위한 로봇 프로그래밍 시스템 개발

  • 3차원 자유곡면을 볼엔드밀을 사용하여 금형가공을 할 경우, 가공면에는 공구경로에 따른 흔적과 NC공작기계의 직선보간시 발생되는 가공오차에 의하여 공작물 상에 가공오차가 필연적으로 발생되게 된다. 따라서 공작기계상에 서 금형가공을 수행한 후에는 가공오차를 제거하고 금형의 표면을 매끄럽게 하기위하여 연마작업이 픽수적으로 요구 되고있다. 본 연구에서는 3차원 자유곡면으로 이루어진 금형의 연마가공에 로봇을 도입하고, 이를 위한 로봇 작업단의 경로 제어시비전문가라 할지라도 CAM시스템으로 부터 금형 가공용 NC공작기계의 공구경로데이타(Cutter Location Data)를 받으면 자유곡면을 모형화한 후 자유곡면의 법선벡터와 연마로봇 작업단의 위치벡터를 자동으로 생성하고, 그에 따른 로봇의 작업명령을 자동으로 생성할 수 있는 CAMPoli 오프라인 로봇 프로그래밍 시스템을 개발하였다. CAMPoli시스템은 마이크로소프트사의 WINDOWS/386 오퍼레이팅 시스템을 이용하여 IBM-PC/386 상에서 개발되었으며 그주요한 내용들은 다음과 같다. i) CAM시스템으로 부터 입력된 CL-데이타로부터 연마면에 대한 자유곡면을 생성하고, ii) 연마공정의 데이타베이스에 기초한 연마면수의 지정 및 변경을 수행하고, iii) 자유곡면 연마를 위한 로봇 작업단의 위치벡터와 법선벡터를 계산하고, iv) 기존의 로봇언어를 이용한 오프라인 소스프로그램(Source Program)을 생성 및 그래픽 시뮬레이션 하는 과정으로 구축되었다.

Energy-Efficiency and Transmission Strategy Selection in Cooperative Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Energy efficiency is one of the most critical concerns for wireless sensor networks. By allowing sensor nodes in close proximity to cooperate in transmission to form a virtual multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) system, recent progress in wireless MIMO communications can be exploited to boost the system throughput, or equivalently reduce the energy consumption for the same throughput and BER target. However, these cooperative transmission strategies may incur additional energy cost and system overhead. In this paper, assuming that data collectors are equipped with antenna arrays and superior processing capability, energy efficiency of relevant traditional and cooperative transmission strategies: Single-input-multiple-output(SIMO), space-time block coding(STBC), and spatial multiplexing(SM) are studied. Analysis in the wideband regime reveals that, while receive diversity introduces significant improvement in both energy efficiency and spectral efficiency, further improvement due to the transmit diversity of STBC is limited, as opposed to the superiority of the SM scheme especially for non-trivial spectral efficiency. These observations are further confirmed in our analysis of more realistic systems with limited bandwidth, finite constellation sizes, and a target error rate. Based on this analysis, general guidelines are presented for optimal transmission strategy selection in system level and link level, aiming at minimum energy consumption while meeting different requirements. The proposed selection rules, especially those based on system-level metrics, are easy to implement for sensor applications. The framework provided here may also be readily extended to other scenarios or applications.

A 4-axis NC Lettering System for the Side-wall of the Automobile Tire (타이어 사이드판의 문자 가공을 위한 4축 가공 시스템)

  • The letters of the automobile tire are usually engraved on the side-wall. The shape of the side-wall is a sculptured surface generated by the rotational sweeping of a profile curve. The letters laid on the side-wall are usually designed by a 2-dimensional CAD. It is impossible to machine the letters on the surface accurately by 3-axis NC machining, because the axis of cutter should be tilted to align with the normal vector of the surface. In this case. the degree of freedom for the machine is at least four. This paper describes an idea for tool path generation of a 4-axis machine by using the 2-dimensional CAD data of the letters and the surface of the side-wall. This study includes the following procedures; (1) measuring the profile of the side-wall surface and curve-fitting of the measured points. (2) the 'non-parallel projection' of the letters on the side-wall, and (3) an inverse kinematics of the 4-axis lettering machine. Procedures in this paper are programmed in C-language on Windows95 environment. With a PC based CNC controller and a 4-axis lettering machine. these are tested sucessfully for the practical use.

  • Bioequivanence models arise typically in bioassays when new preparations are compared against standard ones by means of responses on some biological organisms. Relative potency measures provide nice interpretations for such bioequivalence and their estimation constitutes the prime interest of such studies. A conditional quantile process based on the k-nearest neighbor method is proposed for this purpose. An alternative procedure based on Kolmogrov-Smirnov type estimator has also been considered along with. ARIC ultrasound data are analyzed as examples.

  • Three primary interests frequently raised by mortgage companies are introduced and the corresponding statistical approaches for the default probability in mortgage companies are examined. Statistical models considered in this paper are time series, logistic regression, decision tree, neural network, and discrete time models. Usage of the models is illustrated using an artificially modified data set and the corresponding models are evaluated in appropriate manners.

  • Modern NC machine tools require a more and more exact monitoring and control of cutting process. A very important parameter is tool wear used to optimize cutting data and to change tools at the right time. In this study, a real-time multi-tool fracture method is proposed for measuring crater from fringe patterns generated by uni-shadow-moire. An optical technique using laser for non-contact measurement of tool fracture is presented. The technology in which the tool is illuminated by a beam of He-Ne laser and then the image of tool fracture CCD camera.

  • Fieldbus provides real-time data communication among field devices in the process control and manufacturing automation systems. This paper presents an implementation method of Profibus in the experimental model of manufacturing automation system. The manufacturing automation system considered in this paper consists of robots, NC machines, sensors, conveyers and PCs. The application task programs are developed on the basis of FMS/FMA7 communication services which are provided by Profibus application layer. The communication and application programs are developed in the real-time environment.
