This study was carried out to improve the design of fuel injection nozzle for marine medium speed diesel engine. For this purpose, fuel injection nozzle was modeled and simulated using CATIA V5R19 and FLUENT & MSC Nastran. Analyses of flow and heat transfer, respectively, were performed to find the optimal design of fuel injection nozzle. As the results, big pressure drop, which may lead to cavitation damage, was occurred at inlet of fuel injection hole with diameter 0.3mm. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the increase of mean temperature of fuel injection nozzle was almost a half in comparison with that of fuel injection nozzle tip.
A CHS(Container Handling System) is a system to load and to unload ISO 2000 or ISO 4000 standard containers which is widely used for various industrial transport purpose. A new light type of CHS is introduced in this paper, in order to reduce weight of cargos and to give the convenience in cargo loading and unloading without additional lifting equipments. The structural models of this system are created to assemble the smooth integration of system and to interface the each composing units with the specification of truck chassis to be mounted. These models are applied to find the suitable design parameters under the condition of force restrictions of each units. Finally, the stability of this system are investigated by analyzing the dynamic simulation using Visual NASTRAN 4D, and it could be recommend the good design parameters for the manufacturing purpose.
The development of high-rise firefighting vehicles warrants thorough structural analysis for ensuring vehicle stability. A few structural analyses were carried out using CAD data, material properties, load conditions, and boundary conditions for evaluating the structural stability of an overloaded multi-aerial platform for firefighting and rescue. Structural analysis was performed with an analytical model consisting of a turntable, six booms, two jib booms, and a basket structure. This model was operated in eight modes. All simulation was performed using NASTRAN, a commercial code. As a result, we confirm that the position of local stress exceeds that of the yield strength. Therefore, stress concentration relaxation is possible by introducing reinforcing boom structures, changing the shape, or imparting a larger moment of inertia to the booms' cross sections.
Optimal shape of the NFR suspension is studied and developed to improve the dynamic performance and reduce the vibration of the suspension system including a optical head slider. Since accurate position control and stability of the slider motion are highly required in NFR due to the narrower track width and the heavier slider than HDD slider with the low flying height, the dynamic characteristics of the suspension are very important to the mechanical performance of the system. The first natural frequencies in flexural and lateral motion of the suspension are critical factors affecting the dynamics and stability of the flying head, so that the dynamic parameters should be designed properly to avoid an excessive vibration or a crash of the slider on the disk. This paper optimizes the shape of the suspension based on homogenization method in NASTRAN and develops a new suspension shape for NFR system. The suspension is tested on experiment to verify the improvement of the dynamic characteristics.
ER mount can be used instead of rubber mount in cylindrical shell to improve the vibration and noise performance. The noise radiated by cylindrical shell will be reduced by reducing the force transmitted to the cylindrical shell through ER mount. In this paper LQ control theory is used to reduce the transmitted force to the cylindrical shell. The finite element method of cylindrical shell is formulated by NASTRAN and its vibrating shape is calculated in frequency domain. The noise radiated from the cylindrical shell is calculated by the use of SYSNOISE, the boundary element CAE tool. The vibration of the cylindrical shell and radiated acoustic pressure is compared in case of both controlled and uncontrolled ER mount.
The objective of this paper is to get excitation forces of the engine at each of the brackets for the prediction of the vehicle interior noise by the powertrain. A powertrain geometry model is produced by CATIA and its FE model is made by MSC/Patran. A vibration mode analysis and a running mode analysis are experimentally implemented. After getting a satisfied MAC value by doing a correlation about a measured mode analysis value and analyzed value through MSC/Nastran software, all components are assembled through MSC/ADAMS software which is a dynamic analysis tool. We can predict the vibration of brackets which is the last points to occur the force of the engine combustion by analyzing the combustion force produced by engine mechanism.
Noise radiated from the powertrain is an important factor of the vehicle interior noise. In this paper, Finite Element(FE) model and Boundary Element(BE) models were created. The FE model was updated by doing a correlation between experimental modal analysis(EMA) values and finite element analysis(FEA) values. Main bearing forces were calculated using a running modal data. The forced vibration analysis was simulated using the software MSC/NASTRAN, and the radiated noise was predicted using the software LMS/VIRTUAL.LAB.
In this study, structural vibration analyses of a smart unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have been conducted considering dynamic hub-loads of tilt rotor. Practical computational structural dynamics technique based on the finite element method is applied using MSC/NASTRAN. The present UAV(TR-S5-04) finite element model is constructed as a full three-dimensional configuration with different fuel conditions and tilting angles for helicopter, transient and airplane flight modes. In addition, the 3-dimensional supporting equipment structures of electronic devices are considered for vibration analysis. As the results of this study, transient structural displacements and accelerations are presented in detail. Moreover, vibration characteristics of structural parts and installed equipments are investigated for different fuel conditions and tilting angles.
This paper deals with a numerical study of the dynamic response of rubber oil seals for rotating shaft when interference as well as static and dynamic eccentricities are present. In loss of contact conditions the dynamic curve of oil seals is numerically simulated using the FEM package MSC/NASTRAN. The direct integration method is selected to analyze the time domain response of the seal lip-shaft contact. The computed results based on the experimental data indicate that the increased rotating speed may produce the gap separation between lip edge of rubber seals and shaft. These results will be very useful in predicting the dynamic leakage due to contact behaviors of rubber oil seals under dynamic conditions.
