  • Algebraic matrix Riccati equations of the form, FP+PF$^{T}$ -PRP+Q=0. are analyzed with reference to the stability of closed-loop system F-PR. Here F, R and Q are n * n real matrices with R=R$^{T}$ and Q=Q$^{T}$ .geq.0 (nonnegative-definite). Such equations have been playing key roles in optimal control and filtering problems with R .geq. 0. and also in the solutions of in H$_{\infty}$ control problems with R taking the form R=H$_{1}$$^{T}$ H$_{1}$-H$_{2}$$^{T}$ H$_{2}$. In both cases an existence of stabilizing solution, i.e. the solution yielding asymptotically stable closed-loop system, is an important problem. First, we briefly review the typical results when R is of definite form, namely either R .geq. 0 as in LQG problems or R .leq. 0. They constitute two extrence cases of Riccati to the cases H$_{2}$=0 and H$_{1}$=0. Necessary and sufficient conditions are shown for the existence of nonnegative-definite or positive-definite stabilizing solution. Secondly, we focus our attention on more general case where R is only assumed to be symmetric, which obviously includes the case for H$_{\infty}$ control problems. Here, necessary conditions are established for the existence of nonnegative-definite or positive-definite stabilizing solutions. The results are established by employing consistently the so-called algebraic method based on an eigenvalue problem of a Hamiltonian matrix.x.ix.x.

  • The Pyramid-Technique is based on mapping n-dimensional space data into one-dimensional data and expressing it as B-tree ; and by solving the problem of search time complexity the pyramid technique also prevents the effect \"phenomenon of dimensional curse\" which is caused by treatment of hypercube range query in n-dimensional data space. The Spherical Pyramid-Technique applies the pyramid method’s space division strategy, uses spherical range query and improves the search performance to make it suitable for similarity search. However, depending on the size of data and change in dimensions, the two above technique demonstrate significantly inferior search performance for data sizes greater than one million and dimensions greater than sixteen. In this paper, we propose a new index-structured PdR-Tree to improve the search performance for high dimensional data such as multimedia data. Test results using simulation data as well as real data demonstrate that PdR-Tree surpasses both the Pyramid-Technique and Spherical Pyramid-Technique in terms of search performance.

  • Solid phase microextraction(SPME) with $85{\mu}m$-polyacrylate (PA) and $100{\mu}m$-polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) fibers, coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to determine 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane(DBCP) and n-butylbenzene in water. The conditions affecting the SPME process(i.e, extraction time, injection length, injection temperature, desorption time and temperature) were optimized. The linearity of the calibration curve (correlation coefficient, R) was over 0.99 and the limits of detection of the method were between 1.5 and $10.8{\mu}g/L$. Repeatability of the method was between 10.4 and 14.4 %.

  • Objectives : In this study, we investigated the mechanism by which Chelidonium majus (CM) regulates nitric oxide (NO) production. Methods : Using mouse peritoneal macrophages, the mechanism by which CM regulates NO or tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}(TNF-{\alpha})$ production was examined. NO release was measured by the Griess method. $TNF-{\alpha}$ production was measured by the ELISA method. The protein extracts were prepared and samples were analyzed for the inducible NOS(iNOS) expression and nuclear factor kappa $B(NF-{\kappa}B)$ activation by Western blotting. Results : When CM was used in combination with recombinant $interferon-{\gamma}{\;}(rIFN-{\gamma})$, there was a marked cooperative induction of NO production. CM had an effect on NO production by itself. The expression of the iNOS gene was increased in $rIFN-{\gamma}$ plus CM-stimulated peritoneal macrophages and almost completely inhibited by pre-treatment with pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), an inhibitor of $NF-{\kappa}B$. The $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation was increased in rIFN-{\gamma} plus CM-induced peritoneal macrophages. The increased production of NO from $rIFN-{\gamma}$ plus CM-stimulated peritoneal rnacrophages was decreased by the treatment with $N^{G}-monomethyl-{_L}-arginine{\;}(N^{G}MMA){\;}N^{\alpha}-Tosyl-Phe$ chloromethyl ketone (TPCK) , and was almost completely inhibited by pre-treatment with PDTC. Furthermore, treatment with CM alone or rIFN-{\gamma} plus CM in peritoneal macrophages caused a significant increase in $TNF-{\alpha}$ production. PDTC decreased CM-induced $TNF-{\alpha}$ production significantly. After CM treatment in HT-29 or AGS cells, cell viability decreased. Conclusions : These findings demonstrate that CM increases the production of NO and $TNF-{\alpha}{\;}by{\;}rIFN-{\gamma}-primed$ macrophages and suggest that NF-B plays a critical role in mediating these effects of CM.

  • This study is concerned with the investigation of the half-space albedo problem for "İnönü-linear-quadratic anisotropic scattering" by the usage of Modified FN method. The method is based on Case's method. Therefore, Case's eigenfunctions and its orthogonality properties are derived for anisotropic scattering of interest. Albedo values are calculated for various linear, quadratic and İnönü anisotropic scattering coefficients and tabulated in Tables.

  • The goal of this paper is to generalize the concept of Bezier curves and surfaces defined on the vector space $R_n$ to Lie groups, which is a new generation method of curves (called Bezier curves) on Lie groups. The defined Bezier curves and surfaces are alsways smooth because of the properties of Lie groups. We apply this method to smooth motion interpolation or smooth trajectory generation for moving rigid body in space.

  • Background: The postoperative pain in children and adolescents is most commonly managed by intramuscular injections of NSAIDs or opioids. This approach may result in fluctuating plasma drug levels and cycles of pain, comfort, and sedation. Patient-controlled analgesia(PCA) is a method of analgesia administration that consists of a computer-driven pump with a button that the patient may press to administer a small dose of analgesic drug. Materials & Methods: Forty ASA physical status 1 or 2 children and adolescents were divided into two groups. In the PRN group, patients received intramuscularly diclofenac(Valentac$^{(R)}$) on a p.r.n. basis. The PCA group patients received a mixture of nalbuphine and ketorolac by WalkMed$^{(R)}$PCA infusor. Analgesic efficacy was evaluated with NRS(numerical rating scale) and Faces Pain Rating Scale. The side effects were evaluated. Results: The patients of PCA group had less pain than those of PRN group. Complications were similar in both group. Conclusions: PCA with nalbuphine and ketorolac is a safe and effective methods of pain relief in children and adolescents after surgery, and is better accepted than intramuscular injections.
