The present study investigated the suppression of the disease development of anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and C. acutatum in harvested apples using an antagonistic rhizobacterium Paenibacillus polymyxa APEC128 (APEC128). Out of 30 bacterial isolates from apple rhizosphere screened for antagonistic activity, the most effective strain was APEC128 as inferred from the size of the inhibition zone. This strain showed a greater growth in brain-heart infusion (BHI) broth compared to other growth media. There was a reduction in anthracnose symptoms caused by the two fungal pathogens in harvested apples after their treatment with APEC128 in comparison with non-treated control. This effect is explained by the increased production of protease and amylase by APEC128, which might have inhibited mycelial growth. In apples treated with different APEC128 suspensions, the disease caused by C. gloeosporioides and C. acutatum was greatly suppressed (by 83.6% and 79%, respectively) in treatments with the concentration of $1{\times}10^8$ colony forming units (cfu)/ml compared to other lower dosages, suggesting that the suppression of anthracnose development on harvested apples is dose-dependent. These results indicated that APEC128 is one of the promising agents in the biocontrol of apple anthracnose, which might help to increase the shelf-life of apple fruit during the post-harvest period.
The effect of potassium phosphonate ($KH_2PO_3 or $K_2 HPO_3$) on the control of Phytophthora root rot of lettuce was evaluated in a liquid hydroponic culture. Phosphonate 100 ppm strongly inhibited mycelial growth of Phytophthora species in vitro but did not affect normal growth of lettuce in a greenhouse test. Application of the chemical before infection showed over 94% control value, while it was less than 35% when applied after infection. In a field trial, phosphonate 100 ppm, which was directly supplemented into the nutrient solution, satisfactorily controlled the disease as it did not develop until 28 days after transplanting and remained at less than 2% infection rate at the end of cultivation. Meanwhile, in the control plot, the disease initiated at 7 days after transplanting and developed rapidly reaching over 70% infection rate at 28 days. Population density of the causal pathogen, R drechsleri, in a heavily infested farm was 22.0-25.0 cfu/100 ml of nutrient solution. However, it decreased to 1.3-2.0 cfu/100 ml at 7 days after treatment with phosphonate 200 ppm.

Present experiments were conducted to determine the possibility of artificial culture with various sawdust of P. gilvus. The pH value was 6.0 of oak sawdust, 6.5 of mulberry sawdust, 6.6 of elm sawdust, 6.3 of acacia sawdust and 6.1 of apple tree sawdust. Mycelial density on elm sawdust and acacia sawdust were lower than those of oak sawdust, and apple sawdust. Weight of fresh fruiting body showed that 179 g on oak tree, 227 g on oak sawdust, 21 g on elm tree, 76 g on elm sawdust, 106 g on apple tree, and 170 g on apple sawdust. Among them, the yield of oak substrates was the highest whereas acacia sawdust was the lowest, and it is concluded that the yields of sawdust substrates were higher than log substrates. P. gilvus grown on various sawdusts and logs used in this study have shown similar in anti-tumor activity against P388.
This investigation was undertaken to study the effects of oral administration (3 weeks) of Collybia confluens mycelial powder (CCMP) produced by a submerged culture on plasma glucose and other biochemical parameters in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Antidiabetic and hypolipidemic effects were proportionally increased with the increasing concentration of the CCMP for oral administration. The CCMP, at the dose of 400 mg/kg BW, substantially reduced the plasma glucose level by as much as 33.1 % as compared to the STZ-induced diabetic rats group. It also lowered the plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by 22.9%, 19.9%, and 37.3%, respectively. The levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride in liver were reduced to the extent of by 13.5% and 18.8%, and the activity of alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) was decreased by 48.8% and 37.2%, respectively, under the influence of CCMP. The general components of CCMP were found to contain 26.18% carbohydrate, 3.67% crude ash, 4.02% crude fat, 22.55% crude protein, and 43.58% dietary fiber. The amino acid composition of the CCMP was also analyzed in detail.
Effect of temperature, relative humidity (RH) and free water period on anthracnose development by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides was examined on red pepper fruits. Mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides was best at 28$^{\circ}C$, but greatly retarded at 32$^{\circ}C$. Minimum inoculum density required for lesion development varied with isolates, but was mostly above 1.0$\times$105 conidia/ml. Optimum temperature for lesion development on fruits was 31$^{\circ}C$. Percentage of lesion development was decreased as incubation temperature decreased. similar trend of temperature response was observed for acervulus formation on the developed lesions. Acervuli were not developed on the lesion as low as at 19$^{\circ}C$. Lesion development and acervuli formation tended to increase as increasing RH, but were greatly inhibited at the RH lower than 88%. More than 2 hours of free water period after inoculation were required for lesion development. Lesion development was increased as free water period increased. This study indicates that anthracnose development by C. gloeosporioides favors the conditions of high temperature above 28$^{\circ}C$, high humidity above 90% RH, and requires free water period longer than 2 hours.
This study was carried out to obtain the basic data for artificial production of Polyporus umbellatus. Among logs consisted of 16 tree species, the log of Stylax japonica inoculated with Polyporus umbellatus not only produced compact sclerotia of $3{\sim}5\;mm$ in their diameters but resulted in the good mycelial density. Also, the sclerotia were observed on 6 different kinds of logs inoculated with Polyporus umbellatus.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has been estimating the potential of insects as human food and animal feed for convincing food security since 2010. On account of this reason, Tenebrio molitor larvae have been gaining considerable attention as an alternative protein source for various foods. However, consumers do not prefer them because of their disgusting appearance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a method that improve their appearance as to lead to T. molitor larvae consumption. In this study, T. molitor larvae which is prepared for optimally sampling conditions (shade drying, 30 min boiling after hot air drying, 30 min steaming after hot air drying), were cultured with Cordyceps militaris mycelia, and measured growth and density of mycelial. Also analyzed the cordycepin and adenosine content compared with commercial C. militaris. As a result, T. molitor larvae cultivated with C. militaris mycelia showed the highest cordycepin content (13.75 mg/g) was observed in optimal sampling conditions (shade drying). Therefore, we report that the methods which T. molitor larvae cultivated with C. militaris mycelia not only improve their appearance but also increase cordycepin content, which can be contributed to lead T. molitor larvae consumption.

This studies were investigated the occurrence of Sclerotinia rot by Sclerotinia Sclerotiorum at the lettuce field in Uiryeong-Gun, Gyeongsangnam-Do and were isolated the most effective microorganism for the biological control to the pathogen, S. sclerotiorum YR-1 strain from diseased soil and lettuce leaves. For the pathogenicity test, the most suitable inoculmn density of YR-1 strain was selected as the mycelial suspension of 40m1 showing disease incidence of 80%, and the symptom showed as same as at the fields, the leaves and stem had rotten and developed white downy mycelial at the diseased lesion on the leaves and stems, and produced black and irregular sclerotinia. On the PDA dual test, about 300 isolates were examined the antifungal activity to the pathogen, YR-1 strain, and among them, A-2, A-7, and RH-4 strain were selected most effective antagonistic bacteria. At pots test, the control value of A-7 strain showed the highest value as 85% which was more effective than that of others in a growth chamber. For the promotion of control effect, the selected 3 isolates were spayed on the lettuce leaves as a sole and/or mixed treatments in a growth chamber, the mixed treatment of A-7 and RH-4 strain showing the control value of 90% was most effective than that of sole treatment with A-7 or RH-4 strain showing the control value of 80%, respectively and mixed treatment with A-2 and A-7 strain and A-2, A-7 and RH-4 strain. In addition, 3 bacteria re-isolated from diseased soils, and all of the selected 6 isolates investigated the control effect at pots in a growth chamber, According to the results, A-7 and Pro-EB 15 strain showed the control value of 91.0% and 90.1% respectively, and they were selected most effectual antagonistic bacteria to control lettuce sclerotinia rot and identified as the Bacillus mojanuinensis by 16s RNA analysis. This is the first report on the biological control using by B. mojanvinensis to the lettuce Sclerotinia rot.
The suitable sterilization conditions in pot cultivation of varieties of Chunchunutari-2-ho and Suhannutari-1-ho Pleurotus ostreatus were investigated. The substrate formulations for the cultivation consisted of 40% poplar sawdust, 40% waste cotton and 20% beet pulp (PWB), and 40% poplar sawdust, 40% cotton seed hull and 20% beet pulp (PCB). The increase in the sterilization temperature caused decrease in the pH of the substrate. The moisture content of PWB substrate increased by 1.8%, but that of PCB substrate decreased by 4.1 % after low temperature sterilization ($12hr\;at\;60^{\circ}C$). However, a little change in the sterilization at higher temperature ($6hr\;at\;100^{\circ}C\;and\;90min\;at\;121^{\circ}C$) did not alter the moisture content of both substrate appreciably. The duration of mycelial growth was longest and its density was lowest in low temperature sterilization ($12hr\;at\;60^{\circ}C$). The high pressure sterilization ($90min\;at\;121^{\circ}C$) of PCB substrate produced high yield (236.6 g/pot) and the highest biological efficiency (96.6%) for Chunchunutari-2-ho. On the contrary the high temperatures sterilization ($6hr\;at\;100^{\circ}C$) of PCB substrate resulted in the yield of 259.1 g/pot with the biological efficiency 94.9% for Suhannutari-2-ho.
This study was carried out to investigate the utilization of platanus for Pleurotus ostreatus culture medium. The results are as follows ; The growth of mycelial was the highest in the mixture medium of platanus sawdust 90% with rice bran 10% as of 12.8cm after 30days culture. The mycelia density of most of media were high exception of mixture medium, platanus tree sawdust 60% with rice bran 40%. The total nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium contents in all mushroom media were tended to decrease after oyster mushroom growth. In platanus sawdust 90% with rice bran 10%, total nitrogen, potassium, calcium and magnesium content of fruit body were higher than other treatments, but phosphate content was the highest in Douglas-fir sawdust 80% with rice bran 20% treatment as of 0.92%. The mycelial culture period was ranged 26~37 days according to different media, the mushroom yield of culture medium with platanus tree sawdust 80% with rice bran 20% was increased 18% compare to control Douglas-fir sawdust 80% with rice bran 20%.
