Reconstructing the Curriculum for Inclusive Music Classes in Elementary School by Linking the Common Curriculum and the Basic Curriculum (공통 교육과정과 기본 교육과정의 연계를 통한 초등학교 음악과 통합수업의 교육과정 재구성 방안: 지적장애 학생을 위한 창작 활동을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to present a methodology for reconstructing the curriculum to provide appropriate music education to students with special needs in inclusive classrooms. This study presents a customizing music curriculum reconstructing model for students with special needs. This model consists of six stages: analyzing students' characteristics and educational needs, analyzing the common music curriculum and basic music curriculum, establishing specified assessment criteria for achievement standards, analyzing the music textbook for the common curriculum and basic curriculum, reorganizing educational activities in music units, and conducting differentiated music instruction. This study presents an example of the customization process and focuses on a creative music activity for students with intellectual disabilities. Recommendations and guidelines for reconstructing the curriculum to best meet the educational needs of students with special needs are provided.

  • Digital Technology actively utilized in all spheres by rapid changes in information and knowledge demands transformations not only in the sociocultural and educational spheres but also specifically in the field of arts education. Digital Technology becomes a challenging factor for the field of arts education. In this study purposed a new teaching-learning approach method in arts education, called "Music Technology-Based Learning"(hereafter, MTBL), which is to, first, take interdisciplinary approaches combining various subjects in the field of arts education. In the case study was conducted to examine the educational effects of the MTBL approach to the liberal arts course in university: mind maps derived from 2 sessions (pre-class and post-class), evaluation sheets regarding self-directed learning and in-depth interviews with ten voluntary learners after the class were used as methods for data collection. The result of case study shows positive changes in the terms of the degrees of emotional sensibilities of the learners. Moreover, the research confirmed the potential of MTBL as a new teaching and learning methodology in art education.

  • Serial Music, introduced by A. Sch nberg, is a one of the important composition techniques. This music style has features of pantonality and atonality, so it generates unique atmosphere of modern music. In this paper, we introduce an method of generating serial music using mathematical algorithm. This method generates music that satisfy the requirement that the number of pitches belonged to each pitch class are exactly same, though the requirement is less strict than Sch nberg's definition. To do this, our method uses space-filling curves traversing the twelve tone matrix, which is constructed by the serial series, its inversion and its transpose. Using these curves, we can generate a music that has all notes in the matrix exactly once and adequate repeatness because of the curve's locality. Result music, therefore, can be more suitable for people that are not familiar with modern music, while maintaining the features of pantonality and atonality. This paper also introduces a method of generating extended serial music that uses serialism of duration and dynamic of notes, using multi-dimensional space-filling curves.

  • Recently, researches on analyzing relationship between the state of emotion and musical stimuli using EEG are increasing. A selection of feature vectors is very important for the performance of EEG pattern classifiers. This paper proposes a comparison of EEG feature vectors for emotion classification according to music listening. For this, we extract some feature vectors like DAMV, IAV, LPC, LPCC from EEG signals in each class related to music listening and compare a separability of the extracted feature vectors using Bhattacharyya distance. So more effective feature vectors are recommended for emotion classification according to music listening.

Effect of Listening to Music on Speech Anxiety among Middle-school Female Students (음악청취가 중학생의 발표불안에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effect of listening to music on the reduction of public speech anxiety among middle-school female students. The subjects were 66 female first graders, 33 of the experimental and another 33 of the control group selected from two classes of C middle school in Chonan city. The level of anxiety (SAS) was rated by the subjects through self-report and the speech behavior (SBES) of the subjects were evaluated by a teacher before, a week after and two weeks after the speech trials. 64 pieces of music were selected based on the music therapy-related references. After 23 out of 64 pieces were selected for the preliminary experiment and 7 pieces as having positive effects through evaluating those 23 pieces in the other class in the same gaders were finally selected. Subjects listened to music for 40 min two times a day for two weeks with a cassette player in the classroom. The result yielded the followings: 1) Self-reported public speech anxiety decreased both in the experimental and control groups. However, there found more decrease in the music-listening group than in the non-listening music group. 2) The public speech behavior improved both in the experimental and control groups with on difference between the two groups. This suggests a possibility that SBES may not be a accurate measure to evaluate the speech anxiety. We conclude that two-week listening to music has the effect reduction on speech anxiety.

Music Psychotherapy Program on Acculturative Stress for North Korean Child Defectors (새터민 아동의 문화적응 스트레스 감소를 위한 음악심리치료 적용 연구)

  • This study aims to conduct a music psychotherapy program on North Korean child defectors, who are experiencing acculturative stress, and to discover the effects of the program on the participants' acculturative stress. This study targeted four North Korean child defectors, who belonged to an H afterschool class in Seoul and performed the program in individual sessions for about 40 minutes per session, totaling 14 sessions. The research results include the following. First, after comparing the results of acculturative stress score that measured before and after the execution of the music psychotherapy program, the mean of the score was significantly decreased from 32.75 to 23 average. Furthermore, as a result of conducting a qualitative analysis of the lingual responses that the participants demonstrated in musical activity, in relation to acculturative stress, the participants were found to experience a positive change. These results imply that the music psychotherapy program offers consistent support through music to North Korean Child Defectors, who are cowering psychologically and experiencing difficulty in adaptation, and reinforces inner resources through their positive self-perception, which indicates that it can be an effective mediation in reducing their acculturative stress.

Analysis of Music Mood Class using Folksonomy Tags (폭소노미 분위기 태그를 이용한 음악의 분위기 유형 분석)

  • When retrieving music with folksonomy tags, internal use of numeric tags (AV tags: tags consisting of Arousal and Valence values ) instead of word tags can partially solve the problem posed by synonyms. However, the two predecessor tasks should be done correctly; the first task is to map word tags to their numeric tags; the second is to get numeric tags of the music pieces to be retrieved. The first task is verified through our prior study and thus, in this paper, its significance is seen for the second task. To this end, we propose the music mapping table defining the relation between AV values and music and ANOVA tests are performed for analysis. The result shows that the arousal values and valence values of music have different distributions for 12 mood tags with or without synonymy and that their type I error values are P<0.001. Consequently, it is checked that the distribution of AV values is different according to music mood.

The Study of Pansori Performance (판소리 공연학 총론)

  • Pansori has both the features of drama and music. In 19th century, prime time of pansori, it had balance of the features between drama and music. But after the late 19th century, pansori has lost the features of drama, and it has been changed into a music centered art performance. This is the phenomenon came from that the upper class accepted and dominated the pansori which had been a performance art of the lower class. The Korean upper class people tend to disdain drama, but to revere music. Nerremsae is dramatic action and ballim is musical gesture in pansori. In 19th century, pansori had plenty of nerremsae, which provided a elaborative symbolic system after the conventional rule of drama. However current pansori actors use only ballim except nerreumsae. Chuimsae like 'ulssigu' is the way to participate in pansori by audience. The actor provides the space for the audience to fill it after inducement by drummer. Through the chuimsae, actor, drummer, and audience share the sympathetic emotional experiences. However the audience in these days do not do chuimsae, but do applause like in western dramas. In western dramas, distinction between tragedy and comedy is relatively clear. The tragedy is constantly tragedy, and the comedy is also constantly comedy. However joy and sorrow are coexisted in Korean pansori. These two contradictory emotions are collided and produce a new strong emotion in a pansori. This is one of very important feature of pansori. Even though each of tragedy and comedy reveals the only one side of life, pansori comprehensively reveals a total human life. However these strong emotions have been much weakened nowadays. Currently pansori has been much declined. For restoration of pansori, it is necessary to revive the drama side in pansori performances.

  • In this paper, we examined the influence for a new learning method using on-line e-learning education model in the field of music appreciation. We applied this loaming method to the field of motive induction, the expectation of learning effect and the increase learning will through mesuring the student's pulse change in the learning class. We analysed the influence of interesting rate and emotional stability in the field of music appreciation.
