Tracking is a fundamental technique which is able to be applied to gesture recognition, visual surveillance, tangible agent and so forth. Especially, multiple object tracking has been extensively studied in recent years in order to perform many and more complicated tasks. In this paper, we propose a new approach of multiple object tracking which is based on discrete event. We call this system the DEMOT (Discrete Event based Multiple Object Tracking). This approach is based on the fact that a multiple object tracking can have just four situations - initiation, continuation, termination, and overlapping. Here, initiation, continuation, termination, and overlapping constitute a primary event set and this is based on the change of the number of extracted objects between a previous frame and a current frame. This system reduces computational costs and holds down the identity of all targets. We make experiments for this system with respect to the number of targets, each event, and processing period. We describe experimental results that show the successful multiple object tracking by using our approach.

A manipulation of a multiple contacted object by a Rotational Base and Single-jointed Finger mechanism(RBSF mechanism) is discussed. The manipulation is characterized by multiple contacts on an object and large motions of the object with sliding contacts. The kinematics and dynamics allowing sliding at multiple contacts are explored. The conditions for manipulation of an object at multiple contacts by the RBSF mechanism, which cannot exert arbitrary contact forces because it has a fewer number of joints than is required for active control, is presented.
This paper describes a localization algorithm utilizing relative observations for multiple autonomous underwater vehicles (Multiple-AUVs). In order to maximize the efficiency of operation and mission accomplishment and to prevent problems such as collision and interference, the locations and directions of Multiple-AUVs must be precisely estimated. To estimate the locations and directions, we designed a localization algorithm utilizing relative observations and verified it with simulations based on sensor data sets acquired through real sea experiments. Also, an optimal combination of relative observation information for efficient localization is figured out through combining various relative observations. The proposed method shows improved localization results compared to those only using the navigation algorithm. The performance of localization is improved up to 58% depending on the combination of relative observations.

This paper deals with the design and control of passive multiple trailer systems for practical applications. Due to the cost and complexity of the trailer mechanism, passive systems are preferred to active systems in this research. The design and control objective is to minimize the trajectory tracking errors occurring in passive multiple trailers. Three sorts of passive trailer systems, off-hooked, direct-hooked, and three-point, are discussed in this paper. Trajectory tracking performance and stability issues under constant curvature reference trajectories are investigated for these three types. As well, various simulations and experiments have been performed for each type. It is shown that the proposed off-hooked trailer system produces a tracking performance that is superior to the others.
This paper proposes a beacon color code scheduling algorithm for the localization of multiple robots in a multi-block workspace. With the developments of intelligent robotics and ubiquitous technology, service robots are applicable for the wide area such as airports and train stations where multiple indoor GPS systems are required for the localization of the mobile robots. Indoor localization schemes using ultrasonic sensors have been widely studied due to its cheap price and high accuracy. However, ultrasonic sensors have some shortages of short transmission range and interferences with other ultrasonic signals. In order to use multiple robots in wide workspace concurrently, it is necessary to resolve the interference problem among the multiple robots in the localization process. This paper proposes an indoor localization system for concurrent multiple robots localization in a wide service area which is divided into multi-block for the reliable sensor operation. The beacon color code scheduling algorithm is developed to avoid the signal interferences and to achieve efficient localization with high accuracy and short sampling time. The performance of the proposed localization system is verified through the simulations and the real experiments.
This paper is concerned with multiple motor control using a distributed network control method. Speed and position of multiple motors are synchronized using clock synchronized distributed controllers. CAN (controller area network) is used and a new clock synchronization algorithm is proposed and implemented. To verify the proposed control algorithm, two disks which are attached on two motor shafts are controlled to rotate at the same speed and phase angle with the same time base using network clocks.
In this paper, we present a mobile robot localization solution by using a Ubiquitous Vision System (UVS). The collective information gathered by multiple cameras that are strategically placed has many advantages. For example, aggregation of information from multiple viewpoints reduces the uncertainty about the robots' positions. We construct UVS as a multi-agent system by regarding each vision sensor as one vision agent (VA). Each VA performs target segmentation by color and motion information as well as visual tracking for multiple objects. Our modified identified contractnet (ICN) protocol is used for communication between VAs to coordinate multitask. This protocol raises scalability and modularity of thesystem because of independent number of VAs and needless calibration. Furthermore, the handover between VAs by using ICN is seamless. Experimental results show the robustness of the solution with respect to a widespread area. The performance in indoor environments shows the feasibility of the proposed solution in real-time.
Soft errors in memory devices that caused by radiation are the main threat from a reliability point of view. This threat can be commonly overcome with the combination of SEC (Single-Error Correction) codes and scrubbing technique. The interleaving architecture can give memory devices the ability of tolerating these soft errors, especially against multiple-bit soft errors. And the interleaving distance plays a key role in building the tolerance against multiple-bit soft errors. This paper proposes a reliability model of an interleaved memory device which suffers from multiple-bit soft errors and are protected by a combination of SEC code and scrubbing. The proposed model shows how the interleaving distance works to improve the reliability and can be used to make a decision in determining optimal scrubbing technique to meet the demands in reliability.
This study presents the unit control of a PC (Personal Computer) program using multiple smartphones based on ad hoc communication. A design of the data packet that multiple smartphones send to a computer, and a framework that manages and controls the unit in a computer after analyzing the data packet, are proposed. As a result, multiple users are able to control their own units using their smartphones while seeing the monitor connected to a computer. In other words, multiple users can share the same game in a computer or control their units embedded in a system using their smartphones. An experimental result shows that a racing game in a PC can be realized by the proposed communication interface, where four iPhones are used to control their units in a computer. Thus, the proposed framework can be effectively used for unit control in a PC using multiple smartphones.
This paper proposes a fast acquisition method using INS velocity and multiple correlators for high speed vehicles. In order to reduce acquisition time in GPS receiver, the method utilizes inertial velocity information and multiple correlators. Search range of the Doppler frequency is reduced by using INS velocity and the number of cells at one search can be increased by using multiple correlators. By using both multiple correlators and the INS velocity in the acquisition, search space can be greatly reduced. Experimental results show that the method gives faster signal acquisition performance than the conventional method.
