  • In this paper we apply space-time block code with multiple transmitter/receiver antennas to the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial broadcasting systems. Especially, we apply Aiamouti scheme with two transmitter antennas and multiple receiver antennas to the ATSC broadcasting system. Also. diversity technique with multiple receiver antennas and space-time block code scheme with multiple transmitter/receiver antennas are compared. Our simulation results show that the ATSC broadcasting system with multiple transmitter/receiver antennas has an extremely good performance than the scheme with single transmitter/receiver antenna in the Rayleigh fading channel.

  • In this paper, we propose a multiple dual-polarized antenna system for multi-user transmission in line-of-sight (LoS) dominant channel environments. By exploiting space and polarization resources efficiently, the proposed system achieves a higher sum rate than the existing multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) system with uni-polarized antennas.

  • In this paper, we proposed and evaluated the performance of an internal MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) antenna for multiband operations including LTE (Long Term Evolution) 700/2300/2500. And to enhance the isolation characteristic, a parasitic element is designed and applied. The proposed single antenna has a volume of $60mm(W){\times}38mm(L)$, and the ground plane is $60mm(W){\times}100mm(L)$. The parasitic element used for enhancing the isolation of the antenna was designed with a copper on FR4 sized $60mm(W){\times}20mm(L){\times}1.6mm(H)$, and the pattern size is $60mm(W){\times}15mm(L)$. Simulated and measured results showed that LTE 700/2300/2500, DCS (Digital Cellular Service: 1710-1880MHz), K-PCS (Korea-Personal Communication Service: 1750-1870MHz), US-PCS (US-Personal Communication Service: 1850-1990MHz), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access: 1920-2170MHz), Wibro (2300-2390MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2483MHz), WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network: 2400-2483.5MHz), US-WiMAX (US-World interoperability for Microwave Access: 2400-2590MHz) frequency bands were covered with $S_{11}$ values less than -6dB (VSWR < 3). Simulated and measured results on $S_{21}$ at 730MHz for the firstly designed MIMO antenna showed -5.50dB and -5.65dB, respectively. When with the parasitic element at the separated ground plane to enhance the isolation performance, -10.33dB and -12.90dB are obtained for the simulation and measurement, so the enhanced isolation performance at lower frequency band (617-867MHz) is confirmed.

  • This paper reports on the design of a multiband multiple-input and multiple-output(MIMO) antenna for long-term evolution(LTE) vehicular communication and includes an analysis of the throughput field test results that were acquired by mounting the antenna to a vehicle. The antenna used for the field test was designed as a planar structure and included multiple stubs to obtain multiband resonant characteristics operating in the LTE(0.8~0.9 GHz, 1.7~2.2 GHz), Wi-Fi(2.4~2.48 GHz), and wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE)(5.8~5.9 GHz) frequency bands. For the field test, antenna prototypes were mounted on the dashboard and roof of a vehicle and connected to the experimental LTE modem. The data transfer rate(throughput), signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio(SINR), and reference signal received quality(RSRQ) were measured and analyzed in various real-world radio wave environments. Based on these results, the relationship between the SINR and throughput according to the field intensity is confirmed.

  • Recent work has been shown that cognitive radio systems with multiple antenna at both transmitter and receiver are able to improve performance of secondary users. In such system, the main drawback is the increased complexity and raised cost as the number of antennas increase. It is desirable to apply antenna selection which select a subset of the available antennas so as to solve these problems. In this paper, we consider antenna selection method for cognitive radio systems in correlated channel from the IEEE 802.11n. For a multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) system with more antennas at transmitter than the receiver, we select the same number of transmit antennas as that of receive antennas. The exhaustive search for optimal antenna becomes impractical. We present criterion for selecting subset in terms of projection of channel correlation vector to increase performance of secondary user with decreasing interference at primary user.

  • The 5G communication system employs the millimeter wave with the extremely high frequency. Since the high frequency signal has the strong straightness, the beamforming technology based on the multiple base stations is required for services covering wide range. The beamformer needs the angle-of-arrival(AOA) information of the signal incident to the antenna, and it is generally estimated through the high resolution AOA estimation algorithm such as Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) or Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariacne Technique (ESPRIT). Although various antenna array shapes can be employed for the beamformer, a single shape (square, circle, or hexagonal) is typically utilized. In this paper, we introduce a transmitting/receiving beamforming system based on the combined array antenna with square and circular shapes, which is proper to various frequency signals, and evaluate its performance. For evaluating the performance of the proposed beamforming system based on the combined array antenna, we implement the computer simulation employing various scenarios.

  • We analyze the performance of a truncated power controlled CDMA(code division multiple access) cellular systems with base station antenna arrays. Erlang capacity and the channel capacity which is a maximum date rate to maintain almost error free communication are analytically derived. The numerical results show there can be a substantial increase in Erlang capacity and in channel capacity by antenna arrays incorporating with the truncated power control scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose 2.6 GHz single band dual polarization MIMO omni antenna for in-building applications. The proposed antenna operates at 2.6 GHz single LTE band, Up-link 2.52~2.54 GHz and Down-link 2.64~2.66 GHz. Horizontal and vertical polarizations of the antenna has been, respectively, constructed by the synthesis of four folded loop antennas and the folded monopole antenna. The height of the MIMO omni-directional antenna is minimized to be less than ${\lambda}/13.5$ from the ground. The measurement results show excellent MIMO omni antenna performance of 2.85 dBi vertical polarization gain, 2.29 dBi horizontal polarization gain, and 19.25 dB port isolation.

  • In this paper, we compared and analyzed the antenna characteristics such as bandwidth, efficiency, and readable range in terms of the size and the number of turns of the multiple meander RFID tag antenna in the UHF band. The sizes of the each antenna are $20.0{\times}19.7$, $25.0{\times}24.8$ and $30.0{\times}29.7\;mm^2$. The bandwidths of the antennas for VSWR<5.8 are 857~963 MHz, 844~965 MHz, and 844~968 MHz which cover the worldwide UHF RFID bandwidth. The readable range of the antenna was greatly affected by the efficiency and gain of the antenna which depends on the size and the number of turns of the meander antenna.

  • As a countermeasure against the threat of jamming which can disrupt operation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, various kinds of technique to estimate the Direction-Of-Arrivals (DOAs) of incoming jamming signals have been widely studied, and among them, the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm is known to provide very high resolution. However, since the previous studies regarding the MUSIC algorithm does not consider the orientation of each antenna element of antenna arrays, there is a possibility that DOA estimation performance degrades in the case of a misaligned antenna array whose antenna elements are not oriented along the same direction. As an effort to solve this problem, there exists a previous work which presents an MUSIC-based method for DOA estimation. However, the error between the real and measured values of each antenna orientation is not taken into consideration. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of the aforementioned error on the DOA estimation performance in the case of a misaligned antenna array is analyzed by simulations.
