Detection of Multiple Salient Objects by Categorizing Regional Features

  • Recently, various and effective contrast based salient object detection models to focus on a single target have been proposed. However, there is a lack of research on detection of multiple objects, and also it is a more challenging task than single target process. In the multiple target problem, we are confronted by new difficulties caused by distinct difference between properties of objects. The characteristic of existing models depending on the global maximum distribution of data point would become a drawback for detection of multiple objects. In this paper, by analyzing limitations of the existing methods, we have devised three main processes to detect multiple salient objects. In the first stage, regional features are extracted from over-segmented regions. In the second stage, the regional features are categorized into homogeneous cluster using the mean-shift algorithm with the kernel function having various sizes. In the final stage, we compute saliency scores of the categorized regions using only spatial features without the contrast features, and then all scores are integrated for the final salient regions. In the experimental results, the scheme achieved superior detection accuracy for the SED2 and MSRA-ASD benchmarks with both a higher precision and better recall than state-of-the-art approaches. Especially, given multiple objects having different properties, our model significantly outperforms all existing models.

A Fast Snake Algorithm for Tracking Multiple Objects

  • A Snake is an active contour for representing object contours. Traditional snake algorithms are often used to represent the contour of a single object. However, if there is more than one object in the image, the snake model must be adaptive to determine the corresponding contour of each object. Also, the previous initialized snake contours risk getting the wrong results when tracking multiple objects in successive frames due to the weak topology changes. To overcome this problem, in this paper, we present a new snake method for efficiently tracking contours of multiple objects. Our proposed algorithm can provide a straightforward approach for snake contour rapid splitting and connection, which usually cannot be gracefully handled by traditional snakes. Experimental results of various test sequence images with multiple objects have shown good performance, which proves that the proposed method is both effective and accurate.

Image Processed Tracking System of Multiple Moving Objects Based on Kalman Filter

  • This paper presents a development result for image processed tracking system of multiple moving objects based on Kalman filter and a simple window tracking method. The proposed algorithm of foreground detection and background adaptation (FDBA) is composed of three modules: a block checking module(BCM), an object movement prediction module(OMPM), and an adaptive background estimation module (ABEM). The BCM is processed for checking the existence of objects. To speed up the image processing time and to precisely track multiple objects under the object's mergence, a concept of a simple window tracking method is adopted in the OMPM. The ABEM separates the foreground from the background in the reset simple tracking window in the OMPM. It is shown through experimental results that the proposed FDBA algorithm is robustly adaptable to the background variation in a short processing time. Furthermore, it is shown that the proposed method can solve the problems of mergence, cross and split that are brought up in the case of tracking multiple moving objects.

  • The purpose of this study is to implement various movements of multiple objects using a small number of power devices in producing a kinetic design, achieving an effect similar to a work comprised of multiple objects controlled using multiple power devices. While it is more typical to control various objects using multiple power devices, the use of multiple devices leads to higher costs and heavier overall weight. In addition, more power is required to operate the multiple power devices. This study applied a mechanism that allows multiple objects to perform various movements using a small number of power devices. The mechanism significantly reduces overall weight and power consumption. In addition, various movements could be expressed by increasing the rows and columns of objects through the use of the camshaft structure that changed the position and shape of the cam and the use of bevel gears. The significance of this study lies in presenting a new method of controlling multiple objects for designers involved in kinetic design.

Real-time Water Quality Monitoring System Using Vision Camera and Multiple Objects Tracking Method (비젼 카메라와 다중 객체 추적 방법을 이용한 실시간 수질 감시 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose water quality monitoring system using vision camera and multiple objects tracking method. The proposed system analyzes object individually using vision camera unlike monitoring system using sensor method. The system using vision camera consists of individual object segmentation part and objects tracking part based on interrelation between successive frames. For real-time processing, we make background image using non-parametric estimation and extract objects using background image. If we use non-parametric estimation, objects extraction method can reduce large amount of computation complexity, as well as extract objects more effectively. Multiple objects tracking method predicts next motion using moving direction, velocity and acceleration of individual object then carries out tracking based on the predicted motion. And we apply exception handling algorithms to improve tracking performance. From experiment results under various conditions, it shows that the proposed system can be available for real-time water quality monitoring system since it has very short processing time and correct multiple objects tracking.

Area Classification, Identification and Tracking for Multiple Moving Objects with the Similar Colors (유사한 색상을 지닌 다수의 이동 물체 영역 분류 및 식별과 추적)

  • This paper presents the area classification, identification, and tracking for multiple moving objects with the similar colors. To do this, first, we use the GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model)-based background modeling method to detect the moving objects. Second, we propose the use of the binary and morphology of image in order to eliminate the shadow and noise in case of detection of the moving object. Third, we recognize ROI(region of interest) of the moving object through labeling method. And, we propose the area classification method to remove the background from the detected moving objects and the novel method for identifying the classified moving area. Also, we propose the method for tracking the identified moving object using Kalman filter. To the end, we propose the effective tracking method when detecting the multiple objects with the similar colors. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithms through some experiments.

Active Contour Model for Boundary Detection of Multiple Objects (복수 객체의 윤곽 검출 방법에 대한 능동윤곽모델)

  • Most of previous algorithms of object boundary extraction have been studied for extracting the boundary of single object. However, multiple objects are much common in the real image. The proposed algorithm of extracting the boundary of each of multiple objects has two steps. In the first step, we propose the fast method using the outer and inner products; the initial contour including multiple objects is split and connected and each of new contours includes only one object. In the second step, an improved active contour model is studied to extract the boundary of each object included each of contours. Experimental results with various test images have shown that our algorithm produces much better results than the previous algorithms.

  • This paper proposes the multiple objects focusing algorithm. Given multiple objects at different distances from a camera, we assume that one object is well-focused and the others are out-of-focused. The proposed auto-focusing algorithm is summarized as follows: (i) detects edges from an input image, (ⅱ) estimates the radius of PSF (Point Spread Function) across the edge, (ⅲ) gather edge points having same radius of PSF, (ⅳ) segments the image into regions with the same radius of PSF, and (ⅴ) restores the each segmented region using the corresponding PSF.

A Research of CNN-based Object Detection for Multiple Object Tracking in Image (영상에서 다중 객체 추적을 위한 CNN 기반의 다중 객체 검출에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, video monitoring system technology has been rapidly developed to monitor and respond quickly to various situations. In particular, computer vision and related research are being actively carried out to track objects in the video. This paper proposes an efficient multiple objects detection method based on convolutional neural network (CNN) for multiple objects tracking. The results of the experiment show that multiple objects can be detected and tracked in the video in the proposed method, and that our method is also good performance in complex environments.

  • In multiple object tracking, accurate detection for each of objects that appear sequentially and effective tracking in complicated cases that they are overlapped with each other are very important. In this paper, we propose a multiple object tracking system that has a concrete detection and tracking characteristics by using multi-lateral histogram and SIFT feature extraction algorithm. Especially, by limiting the matching area to object's inside and by utilizing the location informations in the keypoint matching process of SIFT algorithm, we advanced the tracking performance for multiple objects. Based on the experimental results, we found that the proposed tracking system has a robust tracking operation in the complicated environments that multiple objects are frequently overlapped in various of directions.
