  • A fault tolerant control system design technique has been proposed and analyzed for managing performance degradation in the presence of multiple faults in actuators. The method is based on a control structure with a model reference reconfigurable control design in an inner loop and command input adjustment in an outer loop. The reduced dynamic performance requirements in the presence of different actuator faults are accounted for through different performance reduced (degraded) reference models. The degraded steady-state performances are governed by the reduced levels of command input. The reconfigurable controller is designed on-line automatically in an explicit model reference control framework so that the dynamics of the closed-loop system follow that of the performance reduced reference model under each fault condition. The reduced command input level is determined to prevent potential actuator saturation. The proposed method has been evaluated and analyzed using an aircraft example against actuator faults subject to constraints on the magnitude and slew-rate of actuators.

  • A high resolution digital cinematic Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) has been developed. The system consists of a high speed CCD camera, a continuous Ar-ion laser and a computer with camera controller. To improve the spatial resolution, we adopt a Recursive Technique for velocity interrogation. At first, we obtain a velocity vector fur a larger interrogation window size based on the conventional two-frame cross-correlation PIV analysis using the FFT algorithm. Based on the knowing velocity information, more spatially resolved velocity vectors are obtained in the next iteration step with smaller interrogation windows. When the correct velocity vector at the first step is found to be critical, a Multiple Correlation Validation(MCV) technique is applied to decrease the spurious vectors. The MCV technique turns out to improve SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of the correlation table. The developed cinematic PIV method has been applied to the measurement of the unsteady flow characteristics of a Rushton turbine mixer. A total of 3,245 instantaneous velocity vectors were successfully obtained with 4 ms time resolution. The acquired spatial resolution corresponds to the conventional high resolution digital PIV system using a 1K ${\times}$ 1K CCD camera.

  • For a power source of usual electronic devices such as PDA, smart phone, UPS and electric vehicle, the battery made of serially connected multiple cells is generally used. In this case, if there are some unbalanced among cell voltages, the total lifetime and the total capacity of the battery are limited to a lower value. To maintain a balanced condition in cells, an effective method of regulating the cell voltage in indispensable. In this paper, we propose the design of a balancing circuit for electronic appliances. The balancing system was controlled by a micro-controller which enables to implement the balancing action during charging period. Proposed method has been verified by the experiment using the charger and recorder. The experimental results show that the individual battery equalization can improve battery capacity and battery lifetime and performance through an extended operational time.

  • When examining current process of object tracking and search, objects were tracked by extracting them from image that was inputted through fixed single camera and objects were recognized through Zoom function to know detailed information on objects tracked. This study proposed system that expresses information on area that can seek and recognize object tracked as augmented reality by recognizing and seeking object by using multi camera. The result of experiment on proposed system showed that the number of pixels that was included in calculation was remarkably reduced and recognition rate of object was enhanced and time that took to identify information was shortened. Compared with existing methods, this system has advantage of better accuracy that can detect the motion of object and advantage of shortening time that took to detect motion.

  • This paper proposes a power conditioning system (PCS) for distributed photovoltaic (PV) applications using an asymmetric cascaded multilevel inverter with a single PV source. One of the main disadvantages of the cascaded multilevel inverters in PV systems is the requirement of multiple isolated DC sources. Using multiple PV strings leads to a compromise in either the voltage balance of individual H-bridge cells or the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation due to localized variations in atmospheric conditions. The proposed PCS uses a single PV source with a flyback DC-DC converter to facilitate a reduction of the required DC sources and to maintain the voltage balance during MPPT operation. The flyback converter is used to provide input for low-voltage H-bridge cells which processes only 20% of the total power. This helps to minimize the losses occurring in the proposed PCS. Furthermore, transient analyses and controller design for the proposed PCS in both the stand-alone mode and the grid-connection mode are presented. The feasibility of the proposed PCS and its control scheme have been tested using a 1kW hardware prototype and the obtained results are presented.

  • As large-scale buildings, skyscrapers, and multi-purpose buildings recently increase in numbers dramatically the internal space of such buildings becomes more and more large and complicated accordingly. The Multi-purpose buildings are increasing rapidly in number, and concerns over the evacuation process in case of fire emergency are also increasing. However, A controller who is responsible for visitor's safety makes a decision about measures for visitor safety in human based decision making process. Many potential accidents that are caused by human error lurk in results of the process. The accidents can be decreased by changing the decision making process from human-based into technology-based. Through this study, the way to improve current disasters prevention system is presented and it can also improve shelter inducement methods effectively. SICS(Spatial Information Control System) which is being studied in other research is used as the tool for improvement.

  • This paper proposes a new phase current reconstruction technique for interleaved three-phase bidirectional dc-dc converters using a single current sensor. In the proposed current reconstruction algorithm, a single current sensor is employed at the dc-link, and the dc-link current information is sampled at either the peak or valley point of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) carriers regularly. From the obtained current information, all phase currents are reconstructed in a single PWM cycle. After that, the digital current controller is applied to achieve current balancing in each phase. Compare to the previous multiple current sensor method, the proposed strategy reduces the number of the current sensors in the interleaved three-phase bidirectional converter as well as reducing potential current sensing error caused by non-ideal characteristics of the multiple current sensors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified from the experiments based on a 3kW three-phase bidirectional converter prototype for the automotive battery charging application.

  • A propulsion controller for vehicles should be designed to overcome a sensor failure during a flight, and it is necessary to control the system properly at any circumstances. Therefore, the vehicles need to retain reliability on the sensor measurements by implementing extra sensors to replace the original control sensors in case of their failure. This paper presents the MIMO NARX model by simulation which substitutes measured values with estimated ones by the state estimation technique in case of a sensor failure in a turbojet engine. It is also presented that the NARX model can be adapted as an engine model in HILS equipments.

  • We have developed the unconventional robot arm which is composed of the two main parts, one is a ball screw and the other is a robot arm. The dynamic systems of the robot arm and ball screw are unstable systems coupled with each other. The ball screw mechanism is unstable system but controllable system. The robot arm's dynamics is quasi stable system when ball screw's angular position is zero, else, unstable system. Our system has the duality between stability and controllability at the view point of control. This duality causes difficulty to control of the robot arm using normal control law. We have investigated the location of the characteristic roots of the dynamic equation. And we have found out that the best condition for the control of the arm is quasi stable state. In this paper, we have proposed multiple control laws which are consist of three components to guarantee the stability and controllability simultaneously. The computer simulations were carried out based on VSC about the angular position control of the robot arm, and it is confirmed that the good performances could be obtained by using new controller.

  • Next generation cellular applications and smart phone usage generate very heavy wireless data traffic. It becomes ineluctable for mobile network operators to have multiple core network entities such as Serving Gateway and Packet Data Network Gateway in 4G-LTE to share this high traffic generated. A typical configuration consists of multiple serving gateways behind a load-balancer which would determine which serving gateway would service a end-users'request. Such hardware is expensive, has a rigid policy set, and is a single point of failure. Another perspective of today's increasingly high data traffic is that besides it is being widely accepted that the high bandwidth L TE provides is creating bottlenecks for service providers by the increasing user bandwidth demands without creating any corresponding revenue improvements, a hidden problem that is also passively advancing on the newly emerging 4G-LTE that may need more immediate attention is the network signaling traffic, also known as the control-plane traffic that is generated by the applications developed for smartphones and tablets. With this as starting point, in this paper, we propose a solution, by a new approach considering OpenFlow switch connected to a controller, which gains flexibility in policy, costs less, and has the potential to be more robust to failure with future generations of switches. This also solves the problem of scaling the control-plane traffic that is imperative to preserve revenue and ensure customer satisfaction. Thus, with the proposed architecture with OpenFlow, mobile network operators could manipulate the traffic generated by the control-plane signaling separated from the data-plane, besides also reducing the cost in installing multiple core-network entities.
