WBAN MAC Protocols- Non-Saturation Modeling and Performance Analysis

  • The current literature on discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC) based analysis of IEEE 802.15.6 MAC protocols for wireless body area networks (WBANs), do not consider the ACK timeout state, wherein the colliding nodes check the ill fate of their transmissions, while other contending nodes perform backoff check that slot as usual. In this paper, our DTMC model accurately captures the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism of IEEE 802.15.6 medium access control (MAC) and allows the contending nodes performing backoff to utilize the ACK timeout slot during collisions. The compared rigorous results are obtained by considering a non-ideal channel in non-saturation conditions, and CSMA/CA parameters pertaining to UWB PHY of IEEE 802.15.6 MAC protocols.

  • MC-DS-CDMA 전송 방식에서는 서로 직교성이 있는 여러개의 부반송파들을 사용함으로서 주파수 다이버시티 효과를 얻을 수 있어 우수한 성능의 전송이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 파일럿 심볼을 이용하여 채널을 추정하는 MC-DS-CDMA 시스템에 STBC 안테나 다이버시티 기법을 적용할 때의 시스템 성능을 분석한다. 이러한 다중 반송파 전송 방식에서는 채널 추정 에러, 비선형 전력 증폭기 및 송수신간 반송 주파수 편차 등에 의하여 시스템 성능이 열화 된다. 그러므로 위와 같은 영 향들을 모두 고려하여 송신 신호가 다중경로 페이딩 채널을 통하여 전송될 때의 데이터 비트 오류율 성능을 분석한다.

Up/Downlink Hybrid Inter-Cell Coordination Patterns of the TDD/MC-CDMA System, TDD/MC-CDMA

  • Inter-cell coordination has been an emerging issue for mitigating inter-cell interference in broadband wireless access networks such as IEEE802.16 and 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution). This paper proposes uplink/downlink hybrid inter-cell coordination patterns for a TDD (Time Division Duplex)/MC-CDMA (Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access) system. For the performance analysis, closed forms of inter-cell interferences are derived when uplink and downlink transmissions coexist over a multi-cell environment. In the analysis, we find an optimal ratio of downlink transmit powers of BSs (Base Stations) based on the target outage probability and the performance according to ratios of uplink/downlink transmit powers of MSs (Mobile Stations)/BSs is explored. Our numerical results show that interference mitigation utilizing the characteristics of the uplink and downlink power ratio is very effective in improving system performance in terms of QoS.

  • 본 논문에서는 다중안테나 single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) 시스템의 채널 이득 행렬 구조를 활용한 새로운 신호검출기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 큰 채널이득 행렬을 여러 개의 작은 행렬로 근사화 할 수 있다는 점과 작은 행렬에 격자감소기술을 효과적으로 적용할 수 있다는 점을 활용한다. 모의실험을 통해 제안된 기법의 개선된 성능을 확인한다.

  • Front end AC to DC converters of the boost type are used in traction applications for generating the DC link for the inverters. A GTO based converter is usually switched with a switching frequency of 300 to 500Hz, resulting in low frequency harmonic problems. In order to avoid this, multiple converters with phase shifted carrier signals are used to suppress the low frequency harmonics. A detailed study of an AC to DC converter, parallel operated with reduced sensor and improved power-factor in light load conditions is presented in this paper.

  • The underwater system autonomously is navigated by using the wireless communication system, which receives the control signal from surface ship. The study proposes the new media access control protocol for underwater vehicles network in the view of communication distance and as CSMA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access) for the existing networks is intended to communication network using the high speed media such as electric signal or microwave signal, and thus it may introduce the reduction in throughput when applying the protocols to underwater communication network.

  • A recent dynamic increase in demand for wireless multimedia services has greatly accelerated the research on dynamic channel adaptation of high quality video applications. In this paper, we explore a theoretical approach to cross-layer optimization between multimedia and wireless networks by means of a quality criterion termed "visual throughput" for downlink video transmission using a layered coding algorithm. We obtain the optimal loading ratio of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) subcarriers through an optimization problem balancing the trade-off relationship between inter-cell interference (ICI) and channel throughput. In the simulation, we show that the visual throughput gain at the cell boundary is increased by about 32%.

  • This paper analyses the real-time performance of Ethernet based intranet whether it is applicable to the real-time network. Unpredictability of transmission delay by collision-delay-retransmission mechanism in CAMA/CD(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detect) of Ethernet is the major reason making hard to apply to real-time system. Both retransmission mechanism of TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) for reliability and sliding windows algorithm for high utilization make hard to predict transmission delay.   • The performance of Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol adopted as a draft standard of IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, is analyzed by using mathematical method based on renewal theory. We introdude three kinds of CSMA/CA protocols basic, stop-and-wait and 4-Way handshake CSMA/CA with their mathematical analysis. First, a network of finite population is considered and then expand to infinite population. We model the CSMA/CA protocol as a hybrid protocol of 1-persistent CSMA and p-persistent CSMA protocol, and verify analaytical results by computer simulation. We have found that 4-Way Handshake CAMA/CA shows better performance than those of other two types of CSMA/CA in case of high traffic load.

Low Pilot Ratio Channel Estimation for OFDM Systems Based on GCE-BEM

  • Doubly-selective channel estimator for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems is proposed in this paper. Based on the generalized complex exponential basis expansion model(GCE-BEM), we describe the time-variant channel with time-invariant coefficients over multiple OFDM blocks. The time variation of the channel destroys the orthogonality between subcarriers, and the resulting channel matrix in the frequency domain is no longer diagonal, but the main interference comes from the near subcarriers. Based on this, we propose a channel estimator with low pilot ratio. We first develop a least-square(LS) estimator under the assumption that only the maximum Doppler frequency and the channel order are known at the receiver, and then verify that the correlation matrix of inter-channel interference(ICI) is a scaled identity matrix based on which we derive an optimal pilot insertion scheme for the LS estimator in the sense of minimum mean square error. The proposed estimator has the advantages of low pilot ratio and robustness against inter-carrier interference.
