  • Streaming Technology can support the real-time playback without downloading and storing multimedia data in local HDD. So, client browser or plug-in can represent multimedia data before the end of file transmission using streaming technology. Recently, the demand for efficient real-time playback and transmission of large amounts of multimedia data is growing rapidly. But most users' connections over network are not fast and stable enough to download large chunks of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent IP streaming system based on personalized media service. The proposed IP streaming system enables users to get an intelligent recommendation of multimedia contents based on the user preference information stored on the streaming server or the home media server. The supposed intelligent IP streaming system consists of Server Metadata Agent, Pumping Server, Contents Storage Server, Client Metadata Agent and Streaming Player. And in order to implement the personalized media service, the user information, user preference information and client device information are managed under database concept. Moreover, users are assured of seamless access of streamed content event if they switch to another client device by implementing streaming system based on user identification and device information. We evaluate our approach with manufacturing home server system and simulation results.

  • In this paper, we propose scalable scheduling techniques based on EDF to efficiently integrate hard real-time and multimedia soft real-time tasks in the distributed real-time multimedia database system. Hard tasks are guarangteed based on worst case execution times, whereas multimedia soft tasks are served based on mean execution times. This paper describes a served-based scheme for partitioning the CPU bandwidth among different task classes that coexist in the same system. To handle the problem of class overloads characterized by varying number of tasks and varying task arrival rates, thus scheme shows how to adjust the fraction of the CPU bandwidth assigned to each class. This scheme fixes the maximum time that each hard task can execute in the period of the server, whereas it can dynamically change the bandwidth reserved to each multimedia task. The proposed method is capable of minimizing the mean tardiness of multimedia tasks, without jeopardizing the schedulability of the hard tasks. The performance of this scheduling method is compared with that of similar mechanisms through simulation experiments.

  • The purpose of data mining is to extract multi-dimensional information from a large database. The only information that we can extract from a large database is the column name, data type or simple comments included in the columns of database tables. With such unstructured and scarce information, it is very difficult and time taking to collect and to cleanse data by analyzing the purpose, characteristic and schema of the column during the data preparation step. In order to solve this problem, we propose solutions for reducing the time spent data preparation step in a relational database environment in this paper. That is, we propose useful elements to be considered during the data preparation step and then these elements are organized to constitute MDR(Metadata Registry) which is becoming the international standard of ISO/IEC : ll179. Finally, we propose a XML-based distributed MDR retrieval system that is convertible among heterogeneous systems and heterogeneous DBMSS.

  • The Objective of this research was to construct the multimedia database system that was necessary for the education of the practitioners and the students. To establish this system, there were technical problems as follows 1) The processing of the images, 2) The rapid processing of the information with the computer network, 3) The development of diagnosis tools, 4) The technique to establish the database system, 5) The link between the database system and the internet, and 6) The method to educate through many cases. The analysis for diagnosis and treatment planning were provided as two parts : model analysis and cephalometric analysis. As a model analysis, arch length discrepancy and Bolton tooth ratio were provided for the part of patient information. Cephalometric analyses were provided in the part of initial diagnosis. The Cephalometric analysis ver 2.0 and the PowerCeph pro 3.3.5 were used to show Tweed, Steiner and Jarabak analysis. In the main part, Kim's analysis and some measurements were added. In the post-treatment or retention part, we show the superimposition of the cephalometrics with which you can find the effectiveness of the various orthodontic treatment The address of this home page is "http://damis.snu.ac.kr/orthodontics"

  • In this paper, Java Method approach for the integration of Web and Object-Relational DBMS is proposed. For the purpose, we extend to use Java language in programming user-defined function which is one of important characteristic of Object-Relational DBMS with object concept. Therefore we can retrieve not only database objects but also their associated Java methods to run in clients. Finally, to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed Java Method technique, we designed and implemented this Java method system based on three-tier client/server architecture using JDBC(Java Database Connectivity) and Java RMI(Remote Method Invocation).

  • Multi-dimensional data play a crucial role in various fields, as like computer graphics, geographical information system, and multimedia applications. Indexing method fur multi-dimensional data Is a very Important factor in overall system performance. What is proposed in this paper is a new dynamic access method for spatial objects called HL-CIF(Hierarchically Layered Caltech Intermediate Form) tree which requires small amount of storage space and facilitates efficient query processing. HL-CIF tree is a combination of hierarchical management of spatial objects and CIF tree in which spatial objects and sub-regions are associated with representative points. HL-CIF tree adopts "centroid" of spatial objects as the representative point. By reflecting objects′sizes and positions in its structure, HL-CIF tree guarantees the high spatial locality of objects grouped in a sub-region rendering query processing more efficient.

  • We propose video management system based on MPEG-7 for mobile device(MVMS). Most of existing MPEG-7 applications manage MPEG-7 document based on file system in the desktop environment. To contrast them, because the MVMS manages only necessary information using embedded database system for MPEG-7 documents in mobile devices, it can use efficiently lack of the resource in mobile device environment. MVMS supports key image extraction and MPEG-7 document edition function. Moreover, this is possible search and management of multi document because of MVMS manage MPEG-7 data through embedded DB.

  • The introduction of the digital media changed 21 century at time of database paradigm and the database paradigm called forth a big change in production process and industry of the animation. One of the characteristics of animation is that it has to newly produce all of the images. But due to the introduction of digital technology, the original copy of those images produced for animation can be saved. Also, those permanently saved data can easily produce new images through modification and composition. Therefore, this assignment will be focused on the usage of digital base and how it has made a difference in animation creative skills. In order to achieve the goal, I will be reviewing some examples and discuss about the future of animation for the next generation.

  • E-commerce requires many different types of communications and an unprecedented amount of data changes hands. The many different Platforms and systems interacting require a platform neutral standard for data exchange. One of the technologies that can fill this niche is XML, the extensible markup language established as a standard by the W3C. By being standardized and platform neutral, XML to be factor in e-commerce application and using many systems In this paper, we designed XML document that is used in transaction between corporations, and implement the B2B integration system based on XML database system. Also we use XSLT that make efficient transformation XML documents for exchanging heterogeneous XML data between corporations. So, he or she can more easily and efficiently exchange XML documents between corporations using this system.
