In this study, we analyzed the needs of open university students for e-textbooks by conducting focus group interviews (FGIs) and surveys in order to develop an e-textbook that is suited to their needs. The FGIs revealed that readability and portability of e-textbooks were the most important features for students. The surveys showed that of the 276 respondents who participated in the study, only a small number owned smartpads; however, a sizeable number of students intended on purchasing the device in the future. In addition, students' smartpad utilization, time spent reading e-books, and time allotted for studying as opposed to leisure and commercial use of social network services on the smartpad were examined. Students attached importance to the portability, weight, and price of the e-textbook; moreover, they considered the device's ability to support interaction in a variety of ways and rich multimedia resources to be an advantage. Finally, students also felt that e-textbooks should be less expensive than print textbooks; however, they were willing to pay a higher price, depending on the quality of the content.

Recently, the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services have become very common, enabling various Internet-based services as well as watching TV. In the IPTV system, a Set-Top box (STB) plays a key role as a network terminal device that transmits and receives realtime multimedia contents. In addition, the IPTV networks are usually supported by broadband optical fiber-base network such as fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), However, a general IPTV STB is regarded as one of the local area network (LAN)-attached devices while sharing the bandwidth of the LAN (e.g., Ethernet). In order to overcome the limited bandwidth utilization by fully facilitating the broadband bandwidth (e.g., 1 Gbps) of the optical fiber-based network, we propose a new FC (Fiber Channel)-embedded IPTV STB which can be directly attached to the optical fiber network. Then, we verify that the impacts of the proposed FC-embedded IPTV STB by organizing the the FC-AL (Fiber Channel-Arbitration Loop) network equipped with the FC-embedded IPTV We measures the average Start-up Delay, Average Reject Ratio and the Number of Concurrent Users through extensive simulations to investigate the performances of the suggested FC-AL-based IPTV network. Surprisingly, the IPTV network architecture with the proposed FC-embedded IPTV STBs has an excellent average start-up delay of less than 10 msec, an acceptable average reject ratio of less than 3 % as well as a linear increase of the number of concurrent users when extending the architecture. This reveals that the proposed FC embedded STB has a superior impacts on the performance of the entire IPTV network by effectively utilizing the broadband bandwidth of the fiber optic-based network.

Recently, with the development of autonomous vehicle technology, the importance of precise road maps is increasing. A precise road map is a digital map with lane information, regulations, safety information, and various road facilities. Conventional precise road maps have been tested and developed based on the mobile mapping system (MMS). But they have not been activated due to high introduction costs. However, in the case of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the application field is continuously increasing. This study tries to extract information through classification of high-resolution UAV images for autonomous driving. Autonomous vehicle test roads were selected as study sites, and high-resolution orthoimages were produced using UAVs. In addition, the utilization of high-resolution orthoimages has been proposed by effectively extracting data for precise road map construction, such as road lines, guards, and machines through image classification. If additional experimentation and verification are performed, the field of UAV image use will be expanded, providing the data to automobile manufacturers and related public and private organizations, and venture companies will contribute to the development of domestic autonomous vehicle technology.
The Access Grid (AG) provides collaboration environments over the IP multicast networks by enabling efficient exchange of multimedia contents among remote users; however, since lots of current networks are still multicast-disabled, it is not easy to deploy this multicast-based multi-party AG. For this problem, the AG provides multicast bridges as a solution by putting a relay server into the multicast networks. Multicast-disabled clients make UDP connections with this relay server and receive forwarded multicast traffics in unicast UDP packets. This solution is facing several limitations since it requires duplicate forwarding of the same packet for each unicast peer. Thus, in this paper, we propose an alternate solution for the multicast connectivity problem of the AG based on the UMTP (UDP multicast tunneling protocol). By taking advantage of flexibilities of UMTP, the proposed solution is designed to improve the efficiency of network and system utilization, to allow reuse of multicast-based AG applications without modification, and to partially address the NAT/firewall traversal issues. To verify the feasibility of proposed solution, we have implemented a prototype AG connectivity tool based on the UMTP, named as the AG Connector.

The speedy development of the world-wide web is rapidly growing the internet-based tools for the remote instruction. In interchanging and expressing the information of one another on the web, it is produced through the form of HTML(Hyoertext Text Markup Language). However, the structural disadvantage of the HTML is becoming to require a powerful XML(eXtensible Markup Language) which can store all the sphere of data, and transform them into another form. Nevertheless, because the powerful XML(eXtensible Markup Language). However necessary that XML standard should be applied appropriately. Because existing lecture data of cyber education sites cannot be shared, the users should passively use only the functions offered by cyber school. To solve the problem of this limit, in this study, the standardized data structure for XML is defined, and system model for processing between the server and the client is provided. By storing the lecture data of cyber education sites as XML on the web, stored data came to be reused without changing on any site. In the view of Users, they could used the Internet service with equipment that they want at any place and any time. To control any kinds of CK\LMS(Cyber Lecture Management System) for Administrator and Users, we offered a variety of Multimedia applications and an easy interface and built a new style of CLMS. Therefore, by strong and extracting the data related with the virtual education of the secondary school through the form of XML, for the effective interchange and sharing of the information, maximum utilization of the information can be achieved.

In this paper, 4K-UHDTV or 8K-UHDTV and UHD-3DTV that the next generation broadcasting implementation and the possibility of direct receiving environment construction is analyzed on the terrestrial broadcasting. Particularly, we investigated the possibility by analyzing the previous and related works with regard to UHDTV transmission by DVB-T2 that is one of the best commercialized transmission mode. In order that the UHDTV broadcasting succeeds once again after completion of digital terrestrial switch over at the end of 2012, the ultra high resolution image transfer is important. However, the direct, the indoor and ubiquitous receiving environment is important in not only TV but also the personal type multimedia terminal in the sense of UHDTV service penetration. Therefore, in this paper, by using SFN and high error-correcting mode in DVB-T2 standard, the efficient frequency utilization and effective reception environment construction is illustrated. Particularly, SFN network constitution by 2 mutually different frequencies including the VHF bandwidth and UHF band, and etc. is shown. And the method that builds the free wireless receive environment by using SFN low power radio repeater and for home use gap filler is proposed. And the effect and frequency amount required are presented, when UHDTV broadcasting use 10MHz bandwidth.

In large-scale land development for the rational use and management of national land resources, the use of geospatial information is essential for the efficient management of projects. Recently, drone LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) has attracted attention as an effective geospatial information construction technique for large-scale development areas, such as housing site construction and open-pit mines. Drone LiDAR can be classified into a method using SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) technology and a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System)/IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) method. On the other hand, there is a lack of analytical research on the application of drone LiDAR or the characteristics of each method. Therefore, in this study, data acquisition, processing, and analysis using SLAM and GNSS/IMU type drone LiDAR were performed, and the characteristics and utilization of each were evaluated. As a result, the height direction accuracy of drone LiDAR was -0.052~0.044m, which satisfies the allowable accuracy of geospatial information for mapping. In addition, the characteristics of each method were presented through a comparison of data acquisition and processing. Geospatial information constructed through drone LiDAR can be used in several ways, such as measuring the distance, area, and inclination. Based on such information, it is possible to evaluate the safety of large-scale development areas, and this method is expected to be utilized in the future.
By choosing Multicast for transmission of educational contents in the Remote Educational System, we can reduce the server load and increase network bandwidth utilization. We design and implement Multicast Middleware for the Remote Educational System in this paper. There are three characteristics in this Multicast Middleware: 1) Through Centralized Multicast Group Management for passive members, it allows a host to make multicast group, which is composed of receivers, called Group Member and who are chosen by the host, called group Maker. Because, all groups are created by the Group Maker in Centralized Group Management, Group Member's join action will be passive 2) Maintenance and recovery of multicast group information in order to restore from exception and crash; the maintenance and recovery mechanism of Group Maker is distinct from that of Group Member. 3) The mechanism which enables to transmit large size multimedia data through multicasting and remove additional copy operation through shared buffer. Fragmentation/de-fragmentation for large data delivery results in additional copy operation in user level. But by using user level shared buffer, it can be done without user Bevel copy operation. By applying to Remote Educational environment which consists of 30 PCs and Fast Ethernet, we can examine the efficiency of this middleware, which can transmit 18frames/sec movie which resolution 320 $\times$ 120 pixels, 128Kbps encoded sound data and some text data.
As the number of multimedia applications increases, various protocols and architectures have been proposed to provide QoS(Quality of Service) guarantees in the Internet. Most of these techniques, though, bear inherent contradiction between the scalability and the capability of providing QoS guarantees. In this paper, we propose a protocol, named DQSP(Dynamic QoS Support Protocol), which provides the dynamic resource allocation and admission control for QoS guarantees in a scalable way. In DQSP, the core routers only maintain the per source-edge router resource allocation state information. Each of the source-edge routers maintains the usage information for the resources allocated to itself on each of the network links. Based on this information, the source edge routers perform admission control for the incoming flows. For the resource reservation and admission control, DQSP does not incur per flow signaling at the core network, and the amount of state information at the core routers depends on the scale of the topology instead of the number of user flows. Simulation results show that DQSP achieves efficient resource utilization without incurring the number of user flow related scalability problems as with IntServ, which is one of the representative architectures providing end-to-end QoS guarantees.
Recently, the demand for mobile communications and multimedia services has rapidly increased so that conventional cellular system cannot fulfill the requirement of users (capacity and QoS) any more. Therefore, the hierarchical cellular system has been suggested in order to guarantee the QoS and to admit large population of users. IMT-2000 adopts the hierarchical cellular structure, which requires a call control algorithm capable of manipulating and utilizing the complicated structure of hierarchical cellular structure with handiness and efficiency. In this thesis, as an improvement of conventional combined algorithm, a new call control algorithm considering the moving speed of terminal and bandwidth is suggested. This algorithm employs buffers and guard channels to reduce the failure rate. Also, this algorithm considers the moving speed of terminal and bandwidth to elevate the efficiency. Furthermore, calls are handled separately according to the moving speeds of terminal and bandwidths to improve the QoS and reduce the handover rate. As an evaluation of the suggested algorithm, a model hierarchical cellular system is constructed and simulations are conducted with various types of traffic. As the result of the simulations, such indices as block rate, drop rate, channel utilization, and the number of inter layer handovers are examined to demonstrate the excellency fo the suggested algorithm.
