  • This paper proposes a new control strategy of multifunctional uninterruptible power supply(UPS) with the performance of active power filter which compensate the harmonics and reactive power. To improve the transient response for the effective compensation in active power filter mode, it is considered that a simple and precise calculation method of the compensation reference current for the harmonics and reactive power compensation. So a novel closed-loop control strategy is used to calculate the reference current. And the current regulated instantaneous voltage control scheme is used in back-up power mode. The system model and control algorithm are described and analyzed, and the system performance is verified by the simulation results.

  • We present multifunctional indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films formed at room temperature by a normal sputtering system equipped with a plasma limiter which effectively blocks the bombardment of energetic negative oxygen ions (NOIs). The ITO thin film possesses not only low resistivity but also high gas diffusion barrier properties even though it is deposited on a plastic substrate at room temperature without post annealing. Argon neutrals incident to substrates in the sputtering have an optimal energy window from 20 to 30 eV under the condition of blocking energetic NOIs to form ITO nano-crystalline structure. The effect of blocking energetic NOIs and argon neutrals with optimal energy make the resistivity decrease to $3.61{\times}10-4{\Omega}cm$ and the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of 100 nm thick ITO film drop to $3.9{\times}10-3g/(m2day)$ under environmental conditions of 90% relative humidity and 50oC, which corresponds to a value of ~ 10-5 g/(m2day) at room temperature and air conditions. The multifunctional ITO thin films with low resistivity and low gas permeability will be highly valuable for plastic electronics applications.

  • Gadolinium contrast agents (CAs) are integral components of clinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, safety concerns have arisen regarding the use of gadolinium CAs, due to their association with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF). Furthermore, recently the long-term retention of $Gd^{3+}-based$ CAs in brains patients with normal renal function raised another possible safety issue. The safety concerns of $Gd^{3+}-based$ CAs have been based on the ligand structure of $Gd^{3+}-based$ CAs, and findings that $Gd^{3+}-based$ CAs with linear ligand structures showed much higher incidences of NSF and brain retention of CAs than $Gd^{3+}-based$ CAs with macrocyclic ligand structure. In the current study, we report the in vivo biodistribution profile of a new highly stable multifunctional $Gd^{3+}-based$ CA, with macrocyclic ligand structure (HNP-2006). MR imaging using HNP-2006 demonstrated a significant contrast enhancement in many different organs. Furthermore, the contrast enhanced tumor imaging using HNP-2006 confirmed that this new macrocyclic CA can be used for detecting tumor in the central nervous system. Therefore, this new multifunctional HNP-2006 with macrocyclic ligand structure shows great promise for whole-body clinical application.

  • When designing a multifunctional system consisting of many components performing many functions or missions, it is important to determine the reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) of the system and components, and we consider system availability to be the optimization criterion. For given intervals of mean time between failure (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR) of the components, we want to determine the values of MTBF and MTTR for all components that satisfy the target availability. A heuristic method is proposed for finding near-optimal solutions through simulation. We also study numerical examples to check effects of model parameters on the optimal solutions.

Permeation Property of Ionomer Film with New Multifunctional Ionic Site (다관능기를 도입한 아이오노머 필름의 기체투과 특성)

  • Ionomer is a thermoplastic that is composed of covalent bonds and ionic bonds. It is possible to use this material in processes such as injection molding or extrusion molding due to the material's high oil resistance, weatherproof characteristics, and shock resistance. In this study, a new ionomer having a multifunctional group was prepared by a stepwise neutralization system with the addition of acidic and salt additives. In step I, to increase the contents of the multifunctional group and the acid degree in ethylene acrylic acid (EAA), MGA was added to the ionomer resin (EAA). A new ionomer was prepared via the traditional preparation method of the ionic cross-linking process. In step II, metal salt was added to the mixture of EAA and MGA. The extrusion process was performed using a twin extruder (L/D = 40, size : ${\varphi}30$). Ionomer film was prepared for evaluation of gas permeability by using the compression molding process. The degree of neutralized and ionic cross-linked new ionomer was confirmed by FT-IR and XRD analysis. In order to estimate the neutralization of the new ionomer film, various properties such as gas permeation and mechanical properties were measured. The physical strength and anti-scratch property of the new ionomer were improved with increase of the neutralization degree. The gas barrier property of the new ionomer was improved through the introduction of an ionic site. Also, the ionic degree of cross-linking and gas barrier property of the ionomer membrane prepared by stepwise neutralization were increased.

A Simple Resonant DC Link Snubber-Assisted Bi-directional Three-phase PWM Converter for Battery Energy Storage Systems

  • In this paper, a prototype of an active auxiliary quasi-resonant DC link (QRDCL) snubber assisted voltage source bidirectional power converter (AC to DC and DC to AC) operating at zero voltage soft-switching (BVS) PWM nlode is presented for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The operating principle of this QRDCL circuit and multifunctional control-based converter system, including PWM inverter mode in which energy flows from the battery bank to the three-phase utility-grid in addition to an active PWM converter mode in which energy flows from the utility-grid to the battery banks are described respectively by the control implementation on the basis of d-q coordinate plane transformation. The multifunctional operation characteristics of this three-phase ZVS PWM bi-directional converter with QRDCL is demonstrated fer a BESS under the power conditioning and processing schemes of energy supply mode and energy storage mode, and compared with a conventional three-phase hard switching PWM bi-directional converter for a BESS. The effectiveness of the three-phase ZVS PWM hi-directional converter with QRDCL is proven via the simulation analysis.

  • 본 논문에서는 대용량의 영상을 빠르고 정확하게 편집해야 하는 방송 환경에서 오픈 소스를 활용한 방송용 영상 편집 시스템과 편집 결과를 신속히 통보하는 다기능 알람 시스템에 대하여 다루었다. 디지털 방송에서 사용하는 영상은 매우 고품질이면서 동시에 매우 큰 데이터 용량을 가지고 있으며, 또 방송이라는 매체의 성격상 방송 시간에 맞춰 영상 편집을 완료해야 하는 시간적 부담이 있다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방송 편집 시스템은 갈수록 그 기능이 다양하고 좋은 성능을 보여주는 오픈 소스 영상 처리 소프트웨어를 활용하는 동시에, 분산 처리 시스템을 도입하여 영상의 빠른 편집 기능을 저렴한 도입 비용으로 가능하도록 하였다. 오픈 소스 영상 처리 소프트웨어는 백엔드 모듈로 동작하며, 영상의 다양한 편집 기능들, 예를 들어 영상의 구간 자르기, 붙이기, 자막넣기, 로고 넣기, 비디오/오디오 포맷 변환 등을 수행한다. 사용자 편의성을 위한 프론트엔드 시스템은 자바 기반의 프레임워크를 사용하였으며, 비디오 편집 기능 결과 및 과정에 대한 다기능 알람 기능을 첨가하여 방송 종사자들의 업무 편리를 도모하였다. 본 시스템은 기존의 고가 방송 편집 장비와 비교하여 매우 저렴하면서도 안정된 성능을 보장하여 디지털 방송 시대에 활용 가능성이 매우 높다고 할 수 있다.

Bacterial Cell Surface Display of a Multifunctional Cellulolytic Enzyme Screened from a Bovine Rumen Metagenomic Resource

  • A cell surface display system for heterologous expression of the multifunctional cellulase, CelEx-BR12, in Escherichia coli was developed using truncated E. coli outer membrane protein C (OmpC) as an anchor motif. Cell surface expression of CelEx-BR12 cellulase in E. coli harboring OmpC-fused CelEx-BR12, designated MC4100 (pTOCBR12), was confirmed by fluorescence-activated cell sorting and analysis of outer membrane fractions by western blotting, which verified the expected molecular mass of OmpC-fused CelEx-BR12 (~72 kDa). Functional evidence for exocellulase activity was provided by enzymatic assays of whole cells and outer membrane protein fractions from E. coli MC4100 (pTOCBR12). The stability of E. coli MC4100 (pTOCBR12) cellulase activity was tested by carrying out repeated reaction cycles, which demonstrated the reusability of recombinant cells. Finally, we showed that recombinant E. coli cells displaying the CelEx-BR12 enzyme on the cell surface were capable of growth using carboxymethyl cellulose as the sole carbon source.

  • A new electronically stopband tunable filter is proposed with three-input single-output using Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) in this paper. The proposed filter provides band pass, low pass and high pass multifunctional responses. Centre frequency ($f_c$) and quality factor (Q) of the realized filters could independently tuned without disturbing each other. Various network sensitivity and non-ideal characteristic analysis are done to check the sensitivity and parasitic effect of different circuit parameters. The CMOS realization of filter is done with 1.8V-0.18um process parameters and HSPICE simulation results are presented to assert the presented theory.
