The development and implementation of an appropriate methodology for the accurate geometric description of track models is proposed in the framework of multibody dynamics and it includes the representation of the track spatial geometry and its irregularities. The wheel and rail surfaces are parameterized to represent any wheel and rail profiles obtained from direct measurements or design requirements. A fully generic methodology to determine, online during the dynamic simulation, the coordinates of the contact points, even when the most general three dimensional motion of the wheelset with respect to the rails is proposed. This methodology is applied to study specific issues in railway dynamics such as the flange contact problem and lead and lag contact configurations. A formulation for the description of the normal contact forces, which result from the wheel-rail interaction, is also presented. The tangential creep forces and moments that develop in the wheel-rail contact area are evaluated using : Kalker linear theory ; Heuristic force method ; Polach formulation. The methodology is implemented in a general multibody code. The discussion is supported through the application of the methodology to the railway vehicle ML95, used by the Lisbon metro company.
In multibody dynamics, DAE(Differential Algebraic Equations) that combine differential equations of motion and kinematic constraint equations should be solved. To solve these equations, either coordinate partitioning method or constraint stabilization method is commonly used. The most typical coordinate partitioning methods are LU decomposition, QR decomposition, and SVD(singular value decomposition). The objective of this research is to suggest a hybrid coordinate partitioning method in the dynamic analysis of multibody systems containing singular configurations. Two coordinate partitioning methods, i.e. LU decomposition and QR decomposition for constrained multibody systems, are combined for a new hybrid coordinate partitioning method. The proposed hybrid method reduces the simulation time while keeping accuracy of the solution.

In a magnetic train set composed of more than two cars, the installation of dampers between cars is carefully considered for improving both the ride quality and the safety, particularly during curve negotiation. In this study, a dynamic simulation of the ride quality and curve negotiation of a Maglev vehicle was carried out. The dynamic model is developed based on multibody dynamics. The presented full vehicle multibody dynamic model integrates the electromagnet model and its control algorithm. By using this model, the effects of the dampers are numerically analyzed. The proposed damper is installed on the vehicle and tested to analyze its effects. In this study, the simulation and measured results of the vehicle behavior and ride quality are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to design of a linear feeder using a multi body dynamic program, and to analyze a dynamic motion of the feeder that can transport small mechanical parts uniformly. In order to establish the analysis model of the linear feeder, each parts of the feeder are divided into two types which the rigid and flexible body. For the dynamic simulation, RecurDyn, which is a commercial multi-body dynamic package, is used. We also consider the design parameters for optimal dynamic motion such as centroid, stiffness, and mass of the feeder system. In order to analyze the dynamic motion of a linear feeder, the displacements of the feeder are measured by several accelerometers when it is in an operating condition. After the signal data from the accelerometers are captured in the time domain, the dynamic motion in the space is visualized by using graphic computer software.

The paper presents development of a Hardware-In-the-Loop simulation (HILS) system for the purpose of testing performance, stability, and reliability of an electronic power steering system(EPS). In order to realistically test an EPS by the proposed HILS apparatus, a simulated uniaxial dynamic rack force is applied physically to the EPS hardware by a pnumatic actuator. An EPS hardware is composed of steering wheel &column, a rack & pinion mechanism, andas motor-driven power steering system. A command signal for a pneumatic rack-force actuator is generated from the vehicle handling lumped parameter dynamic model 9software) that is simulated in real time by using a very fast digital signal processor. The inputs to the real-time vehicle dynamic simulation model are a constant vehicle forward speed and from wheel steering angles driven through a steering system by a driver. The output from a real-time simulation model is an electric signal that is proportional to the uniaxial rack force. The vehicle handling lumped parameter dynamic model is validated by a fully nonlinear constrained multibody vehicle dynamic model. The HILS system simulation results sow that the proposed HILS system may be used to realistically test the performance stability , and reliability of an electronic power steering system is a repeated way.

This paper considers the development of the dynamic analysis model and simulation-based operation safety estimation of A-Frame to be applied to the test evaluation support vessel for real sea test. The support vessel will be manufactured by modifying the existing offshore support vessel. Also, development and installation of various sensors and supporting facilities for test evaluation are under preparation. Among these facilities, A-Frame is an equipment that transfers marine equipment from ship deck to the sea floor, and is being designed to transfer up to 50 ton class equipment. However, the A-Frame is a moving equipment using hydraulic cylinders. When the 50 ton equipment is attached and transferred to A-Frame, the buckling of cylinders may occur or A-Frame becomes inoperable due to the influence of huge inertia. For this reason, safety verification should be performed using dynamic analysis techniques that can take into account huge inertia forces in the design of A-Frame. Therefore, in this study, A-Frame and ship behavior were modeled using dynamic analysis method, and the applied loads of various equipment including hydraulic cylinder of A-Frame was measured and the operation safety review was performed.

In this study, 3 dimensional non-linear race car vehicle model including Chassis, steering and suspension systems were modeled by using Multi-Body Dynamics Simulation Program, DADS 9.5(Dynamic Analysis and Design System),which was used in kinematic and dynamic analysis. A full race car vehicle dynamics model using DADS program was presented and analysis was carried out to estimate the handling characteristics that may be very useful to design a race car in early design stage. The simulation of vehicle handling behavior for step steering input was simulated and compared with different design parameters: torsional stiffness of the front and rear anti roll bars, the motion ratio of the front and rear suspension system, the location of the tie rod joint, in multibody dynamic model. Therefore this simulation model before race car construction in early design step will be helpful for race car designer to save time and limited budget.

This paper presents a control effectiveness analysis of the hawkmoth Manduca sexta. A multibody dynamic model of the insect that considers the time-varying inertia of two flapping wings is established, based on measurement data from the real hawkmoth. A six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) multibody flight dynamics simulation environment is used to analyze the effectiveness of the control variables defined in a wing kinematics function. The aerodynamics from complex wing flapping motions is estimated by a blade element approach, including translational and rotational force coefficients derived from relevant experimental studies. Control characteristics of flight dynamics with respect to the changes of three angular degrees of freedom (stroke positional, feathering, and deviation angle) of the wing kinematics are investigated. Results show that the symmetric (asymmetric) wing kinematics change of each wing only affects the longitudinal (lateral) flight forces and moments, which implies that the longitudinal and lateral flight controls are decoupled. However, there are coupling effects within each plane of motion. In the longitudinal plane, pitch and forward/backward motion controls are coupled; in the lateral plane, roll and side-translation motion controls are coupled.

This paper describes modeling & simulation(M&S) model for dynamic analysis of helicopter rotor blades. Simulation model is developed using Dymola tool which implements the open source language - Modelica. Modelica is appropriate for developing multibody dynamic analysis model. To develop an M&S model efficiently, model based systems engineering(MBSE) is applied. Some diagrams such as requirement diagram, block definition diagram and sequence diagram etc. are drawn to capture the concept of M&S model. This activity is done utilizing the open source tool - Papyrus.
This paper suggests a method of the forward dynamic analysis for the computer simulation on the analysis of the dynamic behavior for biped walking robot. The equations f motion of the system or the simulation are constructed by using the Method of the multibody dynamics which is powerful method for modeling of the complex biped system. For the simplicity of simulation, we consider that the sole of the contacting foot is affected by the reaction forces for tree structure system topology instead of the addition or deletion of the kinematic constraints. The ground reaction forces can be modeled using the simple spring and damper model at the three contacting points on the sole of the foot. For minimizing the errors of numerical integration, the number of equations of motion is minimized by adding the driving constraints or a controller instead of the direct driving torques.
