In this paper, we proposed a novel current-fed DC-DC converter with multi-output. It has two winding reactor in series with the input source of the converter. By using the 2nd winding recycling the energy stored in the reactor to the input, the double-outputs DC-DC converter can be created, which makes it a good choice for a multi-output power supply with more outputs and has savings in cost and space. The steady state and dynamic characteristics of the converter are analyzed in detail by using the state space averaging method. It is found that the maximum value of $V_{o2}$ exists in the 2nd output and also during the MOSFET off period, the energy stored in the magnetizing inductance is reset through auxiliary winding $N_3$, so the duty cycle is restricted to 50%. Theoretical and experimental results were taken from the converter rated at switching frequency 50kHz. input voltage 50V. output voltage 5V. 12V and output power 65W. As a result, both results were well consistent. Therefore, it is varified the validity of the proposed converter in this paper.
This study proposes an enhanced switching pattern that can improve energy transfer efficiency in an active cell-balancing circuit using a multiwinding transformer. This balancing circuit performs cell balancing by transferring energy stored in a specific cell with high energy to another cell containing low energy through a multiwinding transformer. The circuit operates in flyback and buck-boost modes in accordance with the energy transfer path. In the conventional flyback mode, the leakage inductance of the transformer and the stray inductance component of winding can transfer energy to an undesired path during the balancing operation. This case results in cell imbalance during the cell-balancing process, which reduces the energy transfer efficiency. An enhanced switching pattern that can effectively perform cell balancing by minimizing the amount of energy transferred to the nontarget cells due to the leakage inductance components in the flyback mode is proposed. Energy transfer efficiency and balancing speed can be significantly improved using the proposed switching pattern compared with that using the conventional switching pattern. The performance improvements are verified by experiments using a 1 W prototype cell-balancing circuit.
A rare-earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) superconducting magnet was designed using no-insulation (NI) and multi-width (MW) winding techniques. The proposed magnet is comprised of 58 REBCO-wound single pancake coils with a bore size of 240 mm. When the magnet is operated at 20 K, the center magnetic flux density is designed to reach 3 T with an operational current of 169.55 A, 70 % of its critical current. The critical current was evaluated using experimental data of a short REBCO conductor sample. The designed magnet was then simulated using FEM software with uniform current density model. Magnetic field and mechanical properties of the magnet are evaluated using the simulated data. This magnet was designed as one of the base designs for the project "Tesla-Level Magnets with Large Bore Sizes for Industrial Applications" which was initiated in 2019, and will be wound using REBCO wires with the defect-irrelevant-winding (DIW) technique incorporated to reduce the overall manufacturing cost.
In this paper, in order to analyzing the thrust force of LDM, it was divided by the vertical force(Fx)and the horizontal force(Fy). The magnet and winding width was determined by analyzing the magnetic flux distribution throughout the airgap of LDM. Using finite-element analysis(FEA), which is the magnetic field analysis, and Proved the validity of design process, also the characteristics of LDM according to the variation of the design parameters of LDM was almost in accord with th experiment results.
This paper analyzes a symmetric active cell balancer for a battery management system. The considered cell balancer uses a forward converter in which the circuit structure is symmetric. This cell-balancing method uses fewer switches and is simpler than the previously proposed active cell-balancing circuits. Active power switches of this cell-balancing circuit operate simultaneously with the same pulse width modulation signals. Therefore, this cell-balancing circuit requires less time to be balanced than a previous bidirectional-forward-converter-based cell balancer. This paper analyzes the operational principles and modes of this cell balancer with computer-based circuit simulation results as well as experimental results in which each unbalanced cell is equalized with this cell balancer. The maximum power transfer efficiency of the investigated cell balancer was 87.5% from the experimental results. In addition to the experimental and analytical results, this paper presents the performance of this symmetric active cell-balancing method.
The aim of this paper is to develop a controller of multi-phase bipolar brushless DC (MPB BLDC) motors for an electric bicycle. A MPB BLDC motor has a Permanent magnet rotor in which the magnetic arrangement is radial to the shaft and integral to the rotor laminations. This technique concentrates flux, giving a higher flux density than a surface-mounted PM motor and increases reluctance torque. The stator of MPB BLBC motor has parallel winding, allowing multi-phase separate independent controllability. It gets much more high power than wye-connection at same low voltage. The conventional techniques of exited with modulation(EWM), bidirection control, and partial square wale control are Proposed with one H-bridge and two photo sensors per phase. The Proposed controller is satisfied for the limited speed control and designed for system stability Experimental results show the performance of the proposed controller of MPB BLDC motors for an electric bicycle.
In this paper, by designing the width of the stator coil, double sided excitation LDM with multi-separated winding which is possible to obtain the constant thrust force is proposed. Using Permeance method, equvalent magnetic circuit method, Maxwell 2D, which is the magnetic field analysis package, we were analyzed and proved the validity of design process, also the characteristics of LDM according to magnet vs. coil width ratio of LDM was almost in accord with the experiment results.
A typical HTS power transmission cable has multi-layer conductor structure to increase the current capacity. The tapes of the innermost layer are wound on a round former, and adjacent tapes of another layer are separated by a thin insulating film. However, usually the current is not evenly distributed among the layers because of inductance difference of each layer, and the inductance is provided by the winding pitch of each layer's tape. Consequently n method to make the current distribution more uniform is a adjusting the tape winding pitch, hence reduce the AC loss. This paper describes a current distribution by adjusting a tape winding pitch of each layer. Also, this paper shows recommendations for future cable conductor prototypes.
This paper presents a new PWM DC/DC converter with dual output power using single power stage, which has the isolation characteristics between each dual output. The proposed converter topology consists of two switches ($S_B$ and $S_F$) and only single secondary winding. Therefore, the proposed converter has better advantages of not only low cost and small size but also high power density because of using minimum components and devices compared with conventional methods which use multi winding transformers or several converters. The operating principle of the proposed converter topology, which includes the conventional auxiliary ZVT (Zero-Voltage-Transition) circuit to implement soft switching of the main switch, is illustrated in detail and the validity of the proposed converter is verified through several simulated and experimental results.
