  • The problem of the conflict between eye convergence and accommodation can be induced at Stereoscopic or multi-view 3D display system using binocular disparity. A multi-focus 3D display system was developed, which can solve the problem. LEDs are used instead of galvano scanner and laser to avoid mechanical moving part at the 3D display system.

Learning-Based Multiple Pooling Fusion in Multi-View Convolutional Neural Network for 3D Model Classification and Retrieval

  • We design an ingenious view-pooling method named learning-based multiple pooling fusion (LMPF), and apply it to multi-view convolutional neural network (MVCNN) for 3D model classification or retrieval. By this means, multi-view feature maps projected from a 3D model can be compiled as a simple and effective feature descriptor. The LMPF method fuses the max pooling method and the mean pooling method by learning a set of optimal weights. Compared with the hand-crafted approaches such as max pooling and mean pooling, the LMPF method can decrease the information loss effectively because of its "learning" ability. Experiments on ModelNet40 dataset and McGill dataset are presented and the results verify that LMPF can outperform those previous methods to a great extent.

A Perception-based Color Correction Method for Multi-view Images

  • Three-dimensional (3D) video technologies are becoming increasingly popular, as it can provide users with high quality and immersive experiences. However, color inconsistency between the camera views is an urgent problem to be solved in multi-view imaging. In this paper, a perception-based color correction method for multi-view images is proposed. In the proposed method, human visual sensitivity (VS) and visual attention (VA) models are incorporated into the correction process. Firstly, the VS property is used to reduce the computational complexity by removing these visual insensitive regions. Secondly, the VA property is used to improve the perceptual quality of local VA regions by performing VA-dependent color correction. Experimental results show that compared with other color correction methods, the proposed method can greatly promote the perceptual quality of local VA regions greatly and reduce the computational complexity, and obtain higher coding performance.

Server and Client Simulator for Web-based 3D Image Communication

  • In this paper, a server and client simulator for the web-based multi-view 3D image communication system is implemented by using the IEEE 1394 digital cameras, Intel Xeon server computer and Microsoft's DirectShow programming library. In the proposed system, two-view image is initially captured by using the IEEE 1394 stereo camera and then, this data is compressed through extraction of its disparity information in the Intel Xeon server computer and transmitted to the client system, in which multi-view images are generated through the intermediate views reconstruction method and finally display on the 3D display monitor. Through some experiments it is found that the proposed system can display 8-view image having a grey level of 8 bits with a frame rate of 15 fps.

A depth-based Multi-view Super-Resolution Method Using Image Fusion and Blind Deblurring

  • Multi-view super-resolution (MVSR) aims to estimate a high-resolution (HR) image from a set of low-resolution (LR) images that are captured from different viewpoints (typically by different cameras). MVSR is usually applied in camera array imaging. Given that MVSR is an ill-posed problem and is typically computationally costly, we super-resolve multi-view LR images of the original scene via image fusion (IF) and blind deblurring (BD). First, we reformulate the MVSR problem into two easier problems: an IF problem and a BD problem. We further solve the IF problem on the premise of calculating the depth map of the desired image ahead, and then solve the BD problem, in which the optimization problems with respect to the desired image and with respect to the unknown blur are efficiently addressed by the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Our approach bridges the gap between MVSR and BD, taking advantages of existing BD methods to address MVSR. Thus, this approach is appropriate for camera array imaging because the blur kernel is typically unknown in practice. Corresponding experimental results using real and synthetic images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

핀홀어레이를 이용한 슈퍼 멀티-뷰 3D 디스플레이 (Super Multi-view Display Method using Pin-hole Array)

  • 본 논문에서는 핀홀어레이를 사용한 완전시차 3D 방식의 초다시점 디스플레이를 제안한다. 이는 시점 이미지를 화면에 나타내는 디스플레이 장치, 완전시차의 구현을 위한 핀홀어레이, 시점 영상들을 동공에 동시에 투영시키기 위한 이미징 렌즈로 구성된다. 제안된 방법은 관찰자에게 수평 및 수직 시차가 동시에 제공되는 초다시점 디스플레이 방법이다. 이에 대한 파라미터들의 분석과 시뮬레이션을 통해 수정체 렌즈의 초점 거리만을 조절함에 따라, 망막에 분포하는 빛들의 분포 및 조도 변화를 확인하였으며, 수정체 렌즈가 이미징 렌즈를 통해 생성된 3D 이미지의 깊이면에 초점을 맺을 때에 가장 선명한 영상이 획득됨을 확인하였다.

Imaging Mode Design and Performance Characteristics of the X-band Small SAR Satellite System

  • A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system is able to provide all-weather, day-and- night superior imaging capability of the earth surface, and thus is extremely useful in surveillance for both civil and military applications. In this paper, the X-band high resolution spaceborne SAR system design is demonstrated with the key design performance for a given mission and system requirements characterized by the small satellite system. The SAR multi-mode imaging technique is presented with a critical parameter assessment, and the standard mode results are analyzed in terms of the image quality performances. In line with the system requirement X-band SAR payload and ground reception/processing subsystems are designed and the major design results are presented with the key performance characteristics. This small satellite SAR system shows the wide range of imaging capability with high resolution, and proves to be an effective surveillance systems in the light weight, high performance and cost-effective points of view.

다중 추적자 영상을 위한 컴프턴 카메라 (Multi-tracer Imaging of a Compton Camera)

  • 컴프턴 산란 현상을 이용하여 전자적 집속 방법으로 영상화하는 컴프턴카메라는 고민감도 및 고에너지 해상도의 장점을 이용하여 핵의학 응용분야에 대한 잠재력이 큰 영상 시스템이다. 본 논문에서는 컴프턴카메라를 이용한 다중 추적자 영상의 효용성 평가와 정확한 3차원 단면영상 촬영을 위한 Orlov 조건을 만족하는 회전하는 컴프턴카메라의 구조를 조사하였다. 140/511 keV의 방사선원의 소프트웨어 모형을 구성하고 이에 대한 몬테카를로 전산모사 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 리스트모드 배열된 부분집합 기댓값 최대화 방법으로 재구성된 다중 추적자 영상으로 컴프턴카메라의 효용성을 검증하였다. 산란부와 흡수부를 평행하게 위치시킨 고정된 컴프턴카메라와 촬영대상 주위 $360^{\circ}$를 회전하는 컴프턴카메라를 구성하여 검출된 투사선의 구좌표계 각도에 대한 히스토그램을 비교 평가하였다. 140/511 keV의 동시 계측된 몬테카를로 전산모사 데이터의 다중 추적자 영상이 2차원 및 3차원 재구성 시 잘 구분되는 것을 확인하였으며, 회전된 컴프턴카메라의 경우, 회전각도에 반비례하여 3차원 영상재구성에 필요한 유효 투사선이 증가하였다. 26분의 계산 시간 및 5백만개의 적절한 유효 투사선의 개수를 고려할 때 컴프턴카메라의 회전각은 $30^{\circ}$가 현실적으로 적절할 것이며 증가한 검출 시간은 다중 컴프턴카메라를 구성하여 해결할 수 있다. 본 논문에서 고찰한 고민감도 및 고에너지 해상도를 가진 컴프턴 카메라는 다중추적자 영상화를 위해 적합한 시스템이며 생화학 및 생리학적 상태 변화에 대한 임상 정보를 제공하며 각종 질병 진단 및 치료 방법 개발 등에 기여할 수 있는 잠재력이 있는 영상 시스템이다.

Imaging Cancer Metabolism

  • It is widely accepted that altered metabolism contributes to cancer growth and has been described as a hallmark of cancer. Our view and understanding of cancer metabolism has expanded at a rapid pace, however, there remains a need to study metabolic dependencies of human cancer in vivo. Recent studies have sought to utilize multi-modality imaging (MMI) techniques in order to build a more detailed and comprehensive understanding of cancer metabolism. MMI combines several in vivo techniques that can provide complementary information related to cancer metabolism. We describe several non-invasive imaging techniques that provide both anatomical and functional information related to tumor metabolism. These imaging modalities include: positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) that uses hyperpolarized probes and optical imaging utilizing bioluminescence and quantification of light emitted. We describe how these imaging modalities can be combined with mass spectrometry and quantitative immunochemistry to obtain more complete picture of cancer metabolism. In vivo studies of tumor metabolism are emerging in the field and represent an important component to our understanding of how metabolism shapes and defines cancer initiation, progression and response to treatment. In this review we describe in vivo based studies of cancer metabolism that have taken advantage of MMI in both pre-clinical and clinical studies. MMI promises to advance our understanding of cancer metabolism in both basic research and clinical settings with the ultimate goal of improving detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.

초다시점 영상과 단위픽셀 디자인을 이용한 초다시점 3D영상 구현 (Implementation of Super Multi-View imaging using Super Multi-View Images and 3D Pixel Design)

  • 무안경방식 초다시점 3D 영상을 재현하기 위해서는 초다시점 콘텐츠 및 3D 디스플레이 설계가 필수적이다. 본 논문은 무안경방식 초다시점 3D 디스플레이를 설계하기 위한 주요 인자들을 정의하고 이들 상호적인 관계를 이용하여 2D 디스플레이에서 초다시점 3D콘텐츠 정보를 재현하는 시스템을 개발함으로써 디바이스 설계자에게는 능동적으로 디스플레이를 설계할 수 있도록 하고, 콘텐츠 개발자는 실제 초다시점 디스플레이를 설계하지 않고도 시뮬레이션을 통하여 콘텐츠의 입체감을 가이드 할 수 있는 시스템을 제안한다.
