The generation of coherent x-ray beams by using a multi-slit diffraction phenomenon is presented. The mode-confinement conditions in the x-ray waveguide (XWG) needed to obtain single-mode beams are determined. The XWGs are stacked to form an XWG array. The core of the XWG array is used as a slit in an opaque screen, similar to those used for visible light. Diffraction patterns that interfered constructively in the XWG array are investigated based on multi-slit diffraction theory. The irradiance distributions are studied at on observation screen. The FWHM of diffracted x-ray spectra were between $1.67{\times}10^{-4}$ to $3.30{\times}10^{-5}$ radians which lead to a spot-size of a few tens of micrometers on the screen at distance of 1 m. The intensities decrease with increase in the period of the XWG array, i.e. a thicker cladding, due to growth of the higher-order diffraction peaks.

As optical fiber communication grows, the fiber alignment become the focus of industrial attention. This greatly influence the overall production rates for the opto-electric products. We proposed multi-axis nano positioning stage for optical fiber alignment. This device has 3 DOF translation and sub nanometer resolution. This nano stage consist of 3 PZT-driven flexure stages which are stacked parallel. The displacement of it is measured with capacitance gauge and is controlled by computer-embedded main controller. The design process of flexure stage using FEM is proposed and the performance evaluation of this system is verified with experiments.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a wide bandgap semiconductor possessing photochemical stability and thus widely used for photocatalysis. However, enhancing photocatalytic efficiency is still a challenging issue. In general, the efficiency is affected by physio-chemical properties such as crystalline phase, crystallinity, exposed crystal facets, crystallite size, porosity, and surface/bulk defects. Here we propose an alternative approach to enhance the efficiency by studying interfaces between thin TiO2 layers to be stacked; that is, the interfacial phenomena influencing on the formation of porous structures, controlling crystallite sizes and crystallinity. To do so, multi-layered TiO2 thin films were fabricated by using a sol-gel method. Specifically, a single TiO2 thin layer with a thickness range of 20~40 nm was deposited on a silicon wafer and annealed at $600^{\circ}C$. The processing step was repeated up to 6 times. The resulting structures were characterized by conventional electron microscopes, and followed by carrying out photocatalytic performances. The multi-layered TiO2 thin films with enhancing photocatalytic efficiency can be readily applied for bio- and gas sensing devices.

In this paper, a dual-polarized multi-band multi-layer antenna for a vehicle, which operates in the GPS, bluetooth, and DSRC bands, was implemented. The antenna was designed as a multi-layer structure, and a FR4-epoxy substrate with =4.4 and =1.6mm was used. GPS and DSRC antennas have circular polarized characteristics, and a single probe feeding method was applied. Simulated results by Ansys HFSS v11 was compared with the measured ones. The size of the optimally designed antenna is $67mm{\times}67mm{\times}4.8mm$, -10dB bandwidth of the anatenna was measured to be 820MHz, 127MHz, and 862MHz in each band, and 3dB AR bandwidth of the antenna was simulated to be 19MHz and 110MHz in GPS and DSRC bands. The results confirmed that suggested system satisfies the system requirements.
The InAs multi-quantum dots (MQDs) solar cell and InGaAs multi-quantum wells (MQWs) solar cell to cover 1.1 eV and 1.3 eV were designed by 1D poisson, respectively. The MQDs and MQWs of 5, 10, 15 layers were grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The photo luminescence results showed that the 5 period stacked MQDs have the highest intensity at around 1.1 eV with 57.6 meV full width at half maximum (FWHM). Also we can observe 10 period stacked MQWs peak position which has highest intensity at 1.31 eV with 12.37 meV FWHM. The density and size of QDs were observed by reflection high energy electron diffraction pattern and atomic force microscope. Futhermore, AlGaAs/GaAs sandwiched tunnel junctions were modified according to the width of GaAs layer on p-type GaAs substrates. The structures with GaAs width of 30 nm and 50 nm have backward diode characteristics. In contrast, tunnel diode characteristics were observed in the 20 nm of that of sample.
TiN and CrN thin films are among the most used coatings in machine and tool steels. TiN and CrN are deposited by arc ion plating(AIP) method. The AIP method inhibits the reaction by depositing a hard, protective coating on the material surface. In this study, the characteristics of multi-layer(TiN/CrN/TiN(TCT), CrN/TiN/CrN(CTC)) are investigated. For comparison, TiN with the same thickness as the multilayer is formed as a single layer and analyzed. Thin films formed as multilayers are well stacked. The characteristics of micro hardness and corrosion resistance are better than those of single layer TiN. The TiN/CrN peak is confirmed because both TCT and CTC are formed of the same component(TiN, CrN), and the phase is first grown in the (111) direction, which is the growth direction. However, the adhesion and abrasion resistance of the multilayer films are somewhat lower.

Facial expression recognition is an important part in emotional interaction between human and machine. This paper proposes a facial expression recognition approach based on multi-classifier fusion with stacking algorithm. The kappa-error diagram is employed in base-level classifiers selection, which gains insights about which individual classifier has the better recognition performance and how diverse among them to help improve the recognition accuracy rate by fusing the complementary functions. In order to avoid the influence of the chance factor caused by guessing in algorithm evaluation and get more reliable awareness of algorithm performance, kappa and informedness besides accuracy are utilized as measure criteria in the comparison experiments. To verify the effectiveness of our approach, two public databases are used in the experiments. The experiment results show that compared with individual classifier and two other typical ensemble methods, our proposed stacked ensemble system does recognize facial expression more accurately with less standard deviation. It overcomes the individual classifier's bias and achieves more reliable recognition results.

In this study, we present a multi-sensor module for snake robot searching survivors in a narrow space. To this end, we integrated five sensor systems by considering the opinions of the first responders: a gas sensor to detect CO2 gases from the exhalation of survivors, a CMOS camera to provide the image of survivors, an IR camera to see in the dark & smoky environment, two microphones to detect the voice of survivors, and an IMU to recognize the approximate location and direction of the robot and survivors. Furthermore, we integrated a speaker into the sensor module system to provide a communication channel between the first responders and survivors. To integrated all these mechatronics systems in a small, compact snake head, we optimized the positions of the sensors and designed a stacked structure for the whole system. We also developed a user-friendly GUI to show the information from the proposed sensor systems visually. Experimental results verified the searching function of the proposed sensor module system.
Bi-2223 wire, the first-generation high temperature superconducting (HTS) wire, was successfully commercialized and various electrical machinery and equipment are actively being developed in many countries. Because its critical current is too small to realize the lossless conducting part of electric power system with a HTS wire, multi-HTS paths are used to enlarge the critical current of HTS system. Though the resistance generated in HTS wire by transport current is very small, the difference of it in multi-path is the additional reason which causes the non-uniform current sharing in multi-HTS path except the well known reason, the difference of inductance between each path. In this paper, experimental research on current sharing of multi-strand and multi-stacked HTS wire was implemented. The whole critical current of multi-HTS paths is not equal to sum of critical current of each path because of non-uniform current sharing occurred in this paths. It was verified experimentally that Bi-2223 wires have different resistance generated by same transport current even if they was manufactured in same progress of work. Current sharing phenomenon was affected by difference of resistance and self and mutual inductance.

This work has studied the changes of pH in both of anodic and cathodic chambers of a divided cell due to the electrolytic split of water during the ammonia decomposition to nitrogen, and has studied the continuous decomposition characteristics of ammonia in a multi-cell stacked electrolyzer. The electrolytic decomposition of ammonia was much affected by the change of pH of ammonia solution which was caused by the water split reactions. The water split reaction occurred at pH of less than 8 in the anodic chamber with producing proton ions, and occurred at pH of more than 11 in the cathodic chamber with producing hydroxyl ions. The pH of the anodic chamber using an anion exchange membrane was sustained to be higher than that using a cation exchange membrane, which resulted in the higher decomposition of ammonia in the anodic chamber. By using the electrolytic characteristics of the divided cell, a continuous electrolyzer with a self-pH adjustment function was newly devised, where a portion of the ammonia solution from a pHadjustment tank was circulated through the cathodic chambers of the electrolyzer. It enhanced the pH of the ammonia solution fed from the pH-adjustment tank into the anodic chambers of the electrolyzer, which caused a higher decomposition yield of ammonia. And then, based on the electrolyzer, a salt-free ammonia decomposition process was suggested. In that process, ammonia solution could be continuously decomposed into the environmentally-harmless nitrogen gas up to 83%, when chloride ion was added into the ammonia solution.
