  • In view of the problems of insufficient data collection and processing capability of multi-source heterogeneous equipment, and low visibility of equipment status at the ship block construction site. A data collection method for ship block construction equipment based on wireless sensor network (WSN) technology and a data processing method based on edge computing were proposed. Based on the Browser/Server (B/S) architecture and the OneNET platform, an online monitoring system for ship block construction equipment was designed and developed, which realized the visual online monitoring and management of the ship block construction equipment status. Not only that, the feasibility and reliability of the monitoring system were verified by using the intelligent tire frame system as the application object. The research of this project can lay the foundation for the ship block construction equipment management and the ship block intelligent construction, and ultimately improve the quality and efficiency of ship block construction.

  • In this paper, one of reliable schemes of In-ship sensor networks using a Grid-based WPAN is proposed. The proposed scheme is based on a novel grid network which allows a multi-path communication, and is robust, energy efficient. The results demonstrate that the proposed Grid-based WPAN outperforms the IEEE 802.15.4 based network in terms of power efficiency.

  • In this paper, we develope a genetic algorithm for the erection scheduling in shipbuilding. Erection, the final manufacturing stage of shipbuilding, involves the landing and joining of blocks at drydock. Since several ships are built simultaneously at the same drydock and they compete with the common constrained production resource such as labor, space, and crane, we should consider both ship-specifics and common resource constraints for the desirable erection scheduling. Ship erection should also satisfy the predetermined dock cycle given from higher level production planning. Thus, erection schedule of a ship can be represented as a PERT/CPM project network with its own deadline. Since production resources are shared, the erection scheduling become the so-called multi-project scheduling problem with limited resources, which can not be solved easily due to the large size of project network. We propose a function as a minimization of load index which represented the load deviation over time horizon considering the yard production strategy. For the optical parameter setting, we tried various experiments. We verified that the proposed approach was effective to deal with the erection scheduling problem in shipbuilding.

  • A wireless bridge is essential to transmit control and managing information to sensors or instruments from a central integrated ship area network station. In this paper, a WiMedia Distributed-MAC(D-MAC) protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-Screen wireless service in Indoor and Ship Area Networks. Furthermore, to provide the OSMU(One Source Multi Use) N-screen service through P2P streaming in the seamless D-MAC protocol, a Dynamic Threshold-based Multicast(DTM) technology is proposed and analyzed. For this technology, a new Hard/Soft Vertical Region(HVR-SVR) based time slot allocation and a multicast resource reservation scheme are combined. From simulation results, proposed DTM scheme expands the number of time slots available for unicast and multicast realtime N-Screen reservations with various service time interval requests. Furthermore, it enhances performances in vewpoints of realtime N-Screen data reservation conflict and throughput.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the ship valuation model by utilizing the neural network model. The target of the valuation was secondhand VLCC. The variables were set as major factors inducing changes in the value of ship through prior research, and the corresponding data were collected on a monthly basis from January 2000 to August 2020. To determine the stability of subsequent variables, a multi-collinearity test was carried out and finally the research structure was designed by selecting six independent variables and one dependent variable. Based on this structure, a total of nine simulation models were designed using linear regression, neural network regression, and random forest algorithm. In addition, the accuracy of the evaluation results are improved through comparative verification between each model. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that the most accurate when the neural network regression model, which consist of a hidden layer composed of two layers, was simulated through comparison with actual VLCC values. The possible implications of this study first, creative research in terms of applying neural network model to ship valuation; this deviates from the existing formalized evaluation techniques. Second, the objectivity of research results was enhanced from a dynamic perspective by analyzing and predicting the factors of changes in the shipping. market.

  • The geometry of engineering systems affects their performances. For this reason, the shape of engineering systems needs to be optimized in the initial design stage. However, engineering system design problems consist of multi-objective optimization and the performance analysis using commercial code or numerical analysis is generally time-consuming. To solve these problems, many engineers perform the optimization using the approximation model (response surface). The Response Surface Method (RSM) is generally used to predict the system performance in engineering research field, but RSM presents some prediction errors for highly nonlinear systems. The major objective of this research is to establish an optimal design method for multi-objective problems and confirm its applicability. The proposed process is composed of three parts: definition of geometry, generation of response surface, and optimization process. To reduce the time for performance analysis and minimize the prediction errors, the approximation model is generated using the Backpropagation Artificial Neural Network (BPANN) which is considered as Neuro-Response Surface Method (NRSM). The optimization is done for the generated response surface by non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). Through case studies of marine system and ship structure (substructure of floating offshore wind turbine considering hydrodynamics performances and bulk carrier bottom stiffened panels considering structure performance), we have confirmed the applicability of the proposed method for multi-objective side constraint optimization problems.

  • NMEA 2000 protocol known as IEC 61162-3 of Multi-talker, Multi-listener and Plug and Play network communication has been adopted as standard network for SOLAS(Safety of Life at Sea) ship by IMO. This paper focuses on the implementation of FPGA and MicroBlaze for NMEA 2000 based gateway, which is able to convert NMEA 2000 protocol into various types of network protocol such as Ethernet, UART and USB using Vertex4-based ML401 board. Each communication module and the stack of NMEA 2000 are mounted on FPGA. To be able to receive each communication data, ML401 board is configured to handle required communication speed. PC based NMEA 2000 monitoring program is developed to verify that data on different networks are correctly converted each other in real time.

  • In this paper, we use the ECMA-392 standard, the first cognitive radio networks to meet the demand for IT services in the ship. We propose a ECMA-392 cooperative MAC protocol to ensure QoS to support multimedia services in the ship area in a multi-hop wireless bridge using ECMA-392 networks. Because the proposed protocol transmits directly or relay transmission by selecting efficient routes based on the information of the ECMA-392 devices, it provides communication to ensure QoS of the device. The simulation results show that the proposed cooperative MAC protocol improves a throughput of devices compared to the existing method.

  • For the purpose of providing high data rate real-time services, radio transmission technologies (RTT) for ship ad-hoc network (SANET) based on the Recommendation ITU-R 1842-1 are designed. Physical layer parameters of SANET are contrived to meet the requirements of the specification. In order to improve the link reliability for SANET, in this paper, we investigate the performance of the SANET with the multiple antennas, where receive combining (RC), transmit diversity (TD), and beamforming (BF) are employed, respectively. Based on the analysis of the packet error rate (PER) under the highly correlated maritime wireless channel model, we select the efficient multiple antenna schemes for SANET to improve the link reliability. In addition, the optimal MCS levels for the single-carrier (SC) SANET with the bandwidth of 25 kHz, and the multi-carrier (MC) SANET with the bandwidth of 50 kHz and 100 kHz are finalized.

  • In this letter, we consider a directional routing protocol that reduces the duplicated packets for AODV-based flooding in the course of establishing the end-to-end route in the multi-hop maritime ad-hoc networks. We propose an adaptive means of reducing the routing overhead subject to the node density and the target probability of successful routing that is analyzed by the stochastic geometry.
