This paper describes the scalable extension of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) to provide flexible high-quality digital video content services. The proposed scalable codec is designed on multi-loop decoding architecture to support inter-layer sample prediction and inter-layer motion parameter prediction. Inter-layer sample prediction is enabled by inserting the reconstructed picture of the reference layer (RL) into the decoded picture buffer of the enhancement layer (EL). To reduce the motion parameter redundancies between layers, the motion parameter of the RL is used as one of the candidates in merge mode and motion vector prediction in the EL. The proposed scalable extension can support scalabilities with minimum changes to the HEVC and provide average Bj${\o}$ntegaard delta bitrate gains of about 24% for spatial scalability and of about 21% for SNR scalability compared to simulcast coding with HEVC.
At the view of Application layer, there are many researches to achieve the cross-layer optimization with Physical layer. Scalable video coding is good example. Although it is necessary to consider the session layer which lies halfway between two layers, the research about that is insufficient. We present a feasible solution of dynamic session control for scalable video coding over IMS.
In this paper, we propose a scalable coding method for high dynamic range (HDR) and standard dynamic range (SDR) videos based on Scalable High Efficiency Video Coding (SHVC). The proposed method has multi-layer coding architecture that consists of base layer for SDR videos and enhancement layer for HDR videos to support the backward compatibility with legacy codec and display devices. Also, to improve coding efficiency of enhancement layers, a global inverse tone mapping is applied to the reconstructed SDR video and the compensated frames are referred for coding of the enhancement layer. The proposed method is found to achieve BD-Rate gain of 43.0% on average (maximum 76.3%) for the enhancement layer and 15.7% on average (maximum 31%) for dual-layer against the SHM 7.0 reference software.

In this paper, a watermarking method based on the trellis code with multi-layer is proposed. An image is divided $8{\times}8$ block with no overlapping, and compute the discrete cosine transform(DCT) of each block, and the 12 medium-frequency AC terms from each block are extracted. Next it is compared with gaussian random vectors with zero mean and unit variance. As these processing, the embedding vectors with minimum linear correlation can be obtained by Viterbi algorithm at each layer of trellis coding. To evaluate the performance of proposed method, the average bit error rate of watermark message is calculated from different several images.
Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity of multi view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, improved prediction structure and motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed prediction structure exploits an average distance between the current picture and its reference pictures. The proposed prediction structure divides every GOP into several groups to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. And the proposed motion estimation method uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of modified diamond search pattern, progressive diamond search pattern and modified raster search pattern. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed prediction structure and motion estimation method over JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) reference model using hierarchical B pictures of Fraunhofer-HHI and TZ search method can be up to 40~70% while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
Recently, various research on the application of deep learning to video encoding for enhancing coding efficiency are being actively studied. This paper proposes a deep learning based intra prediction which uses multiple models by extending Matrix-based Intra Prediction(MIP) that is a neural network-based technology adopted in VVC. It also presents an efficient learning method for the multi-model intra prediction. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we integrated the VVC MIP and the proposed fully connected layer based multi-model intra prediction into HEVC reference software, HM16.19 as an additional intra prediction mode. As a result of the experiments, the proposed method can obtain bit-saving coding gain up to 0.47% and 0.19% BD-rate, respectively, compared to HM16.19 and VVC MIP.

Compressive sensing (CS) has to face with two challenges of computational complexity reconstruction and low coding efficiency. As a solution, this paper presents a novel spatially scalable Kronecker two layer compressive sensing framework which facilitates reconstruction up to three spatial resolutions as well as much improved CS coding performance. We propose a dual-resolution sensing matrix based on the quincunx sampling grid which is applied to the base layer. This sensing matrix can provide a fast-preview of low resolution image at encoder side which is utilized for predictive coding. The enhancement layer is encoded as the residual measurement between the acquired measurement and predicted measurement data. The low resolution reconstruction is obtained from the base layer only while the high resolution image is jointly reconstructed using both two layers. Experimental results validate that the proposed scheme outperforms both conventional single layer and previous multi-resolution schemes especially at high bitrate like 2.0 bpp by 5.75dB and 5.05dB PSNR gain on average, respectively.

SVC layered video is consists of a Base Layer (BL) and Enhancement Layer (EL). Without the base layer decoding, the higher EL layer can not be decoded. Therefore, successful transfer of the BL is important factor for improving the SVC video data. In this paper, we propose a network coding of layered video to improve success decoding probability with the importance order of the video data over a multi-relay system. We shows that formula analysis and experimental results of the proposed network coding scheme. In addition, we shows performance of video quality according to the number of relays.

Multi-layered video coding that provides scalability across the visual content has emerged for easily adaptive service over current heterogeneous network. However, the network is still error prone environment so that video service may suffer packet loss or erroneous decoding of the video. Especially distortion caused by the burst error may propagate to several pictures until intra refreshing, which will raise a terrific degradation of picture quality. To overcome the problem at terminal independently, we propose a new error concealment algorithm for the multi-layered video coding. The proposed method uses the similarity of between layers in the multi-layered video coding and POCS (Projections Onto Convex Sets) which is a powerful error concealment tool, but heavily dependent on initial values. To find adequate initial value which can reduce iteration times as well as achieve high performance, we took consideration into both features of layered approach coding and the correlation in neighbor blocks. The simulation results show that the proposed concealment method works well.
Efficient multi-view coding techniques are needed to reduce the complexity of multi-view video which increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce the complexity and maintain image quality and bit-rates, an motion estimation method and temporal prediction structure are proposed in this paper. The proposed motion estimation method exploits the characteristic of motion vector distribution and the motion direction and motion size of the block to place search points and decide the search patten adaptively. And the proposed prediction structure divides every GOP to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed temporal prediction structure and motion estimation method over hierarchical B pictures prediction structure and TZ search method which are used in JMVC(Joint Multi-view Video Coding) reference model can be up to 45∼70% while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
