  • As for temporomandibular joint arthritis (TMJ OA), managing the contributing factors at an early stage through accurate diagnosis is necessary to prevent irreversible bone changes. TMJ OA, which is a multi-organ disease caused by various pathophysiological mechanisms, is developed mainly due to mechanical overload. It is a disease characterized by degeneration of articular cartilage and subchondral bone as a low-level inflammatory arthritis condition developed by dysregulation of catabolic and anabolic activity of chondrocytes. Age, mechanical overload sensing of cartilage, chondrocyte apoptosis, catabolic enzymes, inflammatory factors, abnormal remodeling of subchondral bone, and estrogens may be involved in the pathogenesis of arthritis. Therefore, a comprehensive evaluation is needed to diagnose and manage progressive cartilage degeneration, subchondral bone remodeling, and associated symptoms of TMJ OA.

  • Multi-Valued Image Entropy Coding (MVIEC) is a new class of joint source channel coding, which reduces both input-width (1/4) and average current (0.36-1.3) for LCD source drivers. This paper describes the detail results on MVIEC for several image sets in order to verify the practical performance.

  • The manipulability ellipsoid and the force ellipsoid for a single robot are extended to the case of a multi-robot system. The force ellipsoid is applied to solve the optimal load distribution for the multi-robot system. Two cases are considered in solving the optimal load distribution. In one case, there are no constraints on the joint torques, and the analytic solution ;a given. In the other case, the torque constraints are given in terms of the maximum power consumption, and the algorithm for the solution is proposed.

  • Turbo decoding in combination with detection strategy for Multi Access Interference (MAI) cancellation has been shown to be very effective for MC-CDMA system in Rayleigh multi-path fading environment.   • 본 논문은 수평적 시공간 부호화 기법(Horizontal Space-Time Coding)과 송수신단에 별도의 빔형성 기법을 결합한 JBSTC(Joint Beamforming Space-Time Coding) 구조에 대한 제안 및 동작원리를 기술하고 성능을 분석하였다. JBSTC는 MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) 송수신 시스템 채널 모델링을 기반으로 송신측 안테나간 상호 상관 행렬과 수신측 안테나간 상호 상관 행렬을 이용하여 송수신 빔형성기의 안테나 가중치들을 계산한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 JBSTC 방식은 송수신단에서 발생하는 안테나 간격과 각퍼짐에 따른 상호 상관 값을 효과적으로 보정함으로써 기존의 수평적 시공간 부호화 기법보다 우수함을 알 수 있다.

The Effects of Multi Joint-Joint Position Sense Training Using Functional Task on Joint Position Sense, Balance, Walking Ability in Patients With Post-Stroke Hemiplegia (기능적 과제를 통한 다관절 관절위치감각 훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 관절위치감각, 균형, 보행능력에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of multi joint-joint position sense (MJ-JPS) training on joint position sense, balance, and gait ability in stroke patients. A total of 18 stroke patients participated in the study. The subjects were allocated randomly into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. Participants in the experimental group received MJ-JPS training (10 min) and conventional treatment (20 min), but participants in the control group only received conventional treatment (30 min). Both groups received training for five times per week for six weeks. MJ-JPS is a training method used to increase proprioception in the lower extremities; as such, it is used, to position the lower extremities in a given space. MJ-JPS measurement was captured via video using a Image J program to calculate the error distance. Balance ability was measured using Timed Up and Go (TUG) and the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Gait ability was measured with a 10 m walking test (10MWT) and by climbing four flights of stairs. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to assess normalization. Within-group differences were analyzed using the paired t-test. Between-group differences were analyzed using the independent t-test. The experimental group showed a significant decrease in error distance (MJ-JPS) compared to the control group (p<.05). Both groups showed a significant difference in their BBS and 10MWT results (p<.05). The experimental group showed a significant decrease in their TUG and climbing results (p<.05), but the control group results for those two tasks were not found to be significant (p>.05). There was significant difference in MJ-JPS and by climbing four flights of stairs on variation of pre and post test in between groups (p<.05), but TUG and BBS and 10MWT was no significantly (p>.05). We suggest that the MJ-JPS training proposed in this study be used as an intervention to help improve the functional activity of the lower extremities in stroke patients.

Strategy for Task Offloading of Multi-user and Multi-server Based on Cost Optimization in Mobile Edge Computing Environment

  • With the development of mobile edge computing, how to utilize the computing power of edge computing to effectively and efficiently offload data and to compute offloading is of great research value. This paper studies the computation offloading problem of multi-user and multi-server in mobile edge computing. Firstly, in order to minimize system energy consumption, the problem is modeled by considering the joint optimization of the offloading strategy and the wireless and computing resource allocation in a multi-user and multi-server scenario. Additionally, this paper explores the computation offloading scheme to optimize the overall cost. As the centralized optimization method is an NP problem, the game method is used to achieve effective computation offloading in a distributed manner. The decision problem of distributed computation offloading between the mobile equipment is modeled as a multi-user computation offloading game. There is a Nash equilibrium in this game, and it can be achieved by a limited number of iterations. Then, we propose a distributed computation offloading algorithm, which first calculates offloading weights, and then distributedly iterates by the time slot to update the computation offloading decision. Finally, the algorithm is verified by simulation experiments. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can achieve the balance by a limited number of iterations. At the same time, the algorithm outperforms several other advanced computation offloading algorithms in terms of the number of users and overall overheads for beneficial decision-making.

Ginseng saponin metabolite 20(S)-protopanaxadiol relieves pulmonary fibrosis by multiple-targets signaling pathways

  • Background: Panax ginseng Meyer is a representative Chinese herbal medicine with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. 20(S)-Protopanaxadiol (PPD) has been isolated from ginseng and shown to have promising pharmacological activities. However, effects of PDD on pulmonary fibrosis (PF) have not been reported. We hypothesize that PDD may reverse inflammation-induced PF and be a novel therapeutic strategy. Methods: Adult male C57BL/6 mice were used to establish a model of PF induced by bleomycin (BLM). The pulmonary index was measured, and histological and immunohistochemical examinations were made. Cell cultures of mouse alveolar epithelial cells were analyzed with Western blotting, coimmunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, siRNA transfection, cellular thermal shift assay and qRT-PCR. Results: The survival rate of PPD-treated mice was higher than that of untreated BLM-challenged mice. Expression of fibrotic hallmarks, including α-SMA, TGF-β1 and collagen I, was reduced by PPD treatment, indicating attenuation of PF. Mice exposed to BLM had higher STING levels in lung tissue, and this was reduced by phosphorylated AMPK after activation by PPD. The role of phosphorylated AMPK in suppressing STING was confirmed in TGF-b1-incubated cells. Both in vivo and in vitro analyses indicated that PPD treatment attenuated BLM-induced PF by modulating the AMPK/STING signaling pathway. Conclusion: PPD ameliorated BLM-induced PF by multi-target regulation. The current study may help develop new therapeutic strategies for preventing PF.

  • This study proposes an industrial rehabilitation robot system which can exercise two joints in 3 dimensional spaces. The robot kinematics analysis and the results of studies on each joint for the rehabilitation robot could verify possibility of rehabilitation motion to exercise a joint. The force and torques sensor not only measures a rehabilitation performance of subjects between the abnormal limb and the manipulator, but also carries out an important function of safety device to prevent accidents. Also, limit sensors and emergency stop switch are used for high safety in this system. In this real test, the possibility of rehabilitation robot system is evaluated by C&R ARM I which is similar to upper-limb.

  • Robot manipulator has highly nonlinear dynamics. Therefore the control of multi-link robot arms is a challenging and difficult problem. In this paper an independent joint adaptive fuzzy sliding mode scheme is developed leer control of robot manipulators. The proposed scheme does not require an accurate manipulator dynamic model, yet it guarantees asymptotic trajectory tracking despite gross robot parameter variations. Numerical simulation for independent joint control of a 3-axis PUMA arm will also be included.
