The recent 3D visualization such as volume rendering, iso-surface rendering or stream line visualization gives more understanding about structures or distribution of data in a space and, moreover, the real-time rendering of a scene enables the animation of time-series data. Because the meteorological data is frequently formed as multi-variables, 3-dimensional and time-series data, the spatial analysis, time-series analysis, vector display, and animation techniques can do important roles to get more understanding about data. In this research, our aim is to develop the 3-dimensional visualization techniques for meteorological data in the PC environment by using IDL. The visualization technology from :his research will be used as basic technology not only for the deeper understanding and the more exact prediction about meteorological environments but also for the scientific and spatial data visualization research in any field from which three-dimensional data comes out such as oceanography, earth science, or aeronautical engineering.
We describe the implementation of a multi-dimensional numerical code to solve the equations for idea! magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in cylindrical geometry. It is based on an explicit finite difference scheme on an Eulerian grid, called the Total Variation Diminishing (TVD) scheme, which is a second-order-accurate extension of the Roe-type upwind scheme. Multiple spatial dimensions are treated through a Strang-type operator splitting. Curvature and source terms are included in a way to insure the formal accuracy of the code to be second order. The constraint of a divergence-free magnetic field is enforced exactly by adding a correction, which involves solving a Poisson equation. The Fourier Analysis and Cyclic Reduction (FACR) method is employed to solve it. Results from a set of tests show that the code handles flows in cylindrical geometry successfully and resolves strong shocks within two to four computational cells. The advantages and limitations of the code are discussed.

Recently, as the technology of utilization for the ocean space is being advanced, floating structures are asked for being mare and mare huge-scale. A very large floating structure(VLFS) is considered as a flexible structure, because of a quite large length-to-breadth ratio and its geometrical flexibility. The main object of this study is to develop an accurate and convenient method on the hydroelastic response analysis of very large offshore structures on the real sea states. The numerical approach for the hydorelastic responses is based on the combination of the three dimensional source distribution methods, the dynamic response analysis method and the spectral analysis method. A model is considered as many rigid bodies connected elastic beam elements. The calculated results shaw good agreement with the experimental and calculated ones by Ohta.

This paper describes an automated computer-aided engineering (CAE) system for three-dimensional structures. An automatic finite element mesh-generation technique, which is based on fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated into the system, together with a commercial FE analysis code, and a commercial solid modeler. The system allows a geometry model of interest to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on the physical phenomena of the structures to be analyzed, i.e., electrostatic analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis, and so on. Also, with the aid of multilayer neural networks, the present system allows us to obtain automatically a design window in which a number of satisfactory design solutions exist in a multi-dimensional design parameter space. The developed CAE system is successfully applied to evaluate an electrostatic micromachines.

In analysis of underground structures, the effects of artificial boundary conditions are considered as one of the major reasons for differences from experimental results. These phenomena can be overcome by using the boundary elements which satisfy the multi-layered half space conditions. The fundamental solutions of multi-layered half-space for boundary element method is formulated satisfying the transmission and reflection of waves at each layer interface and radiation conditions at bottom layer. The governing equations can be obtained from the displacements at each layer which are expressed in terms of harmonic functions. All types of waves can be included using the complete response from semi-infinite integrals with respect to horizontal wavenumbers using expansion of Fourier series and Hankel transformation. Two dimensional Green's functions are derived from cylindrical Navier equations and potentials performing infinite integration in y-direction. In this case, it is effective to transform into two dimensional problem using semi-analytical integration and sinusoidal Bessel function. Some verifications are given to show the accuracy and efficiency of the developed method, and numerical examples to demonstrate the dynamic behavior of underground with various properties.

Call admission control (CAC) plays an important role in mobile cellular network to guarantee the quality of service (QoS). In this paper, a dynamic hybrid CAC scheme with integrated cutoff priority and handoff queue for mobile cellular network is proposed and some performance metrics are derived. The unique characteristic of the proposed CAC scheme is that it can support any number of service types and that the cutoff thresholds for handoff calls are dynamically adjusted according to the number of service types and service priority index. Moreover, timeouts of handoff calls in queues are also considered in our scheme. By modeling the proposed CAC scheme with a one-dimensional Markov chain (1DMC), some performance metrics are derived, which include new call blocking probability ($P_{nb}$), forced termination probability (PF), average queue length, average waiting time in queue, offered traffic utilization, wireless channel utilization and system performance which is defined as the ratio of channel utilization to Grade of Service (GoS) cost function. In order to validate the correctness of the derived analytical performance metrics, simulation is performed. It is shown that simulation results match closely with the derived analytic results in terms of $P_{nb}$ and PF. And then, to show the advantage of 1DMC modeling for the performance analysis of our proposed CAC scheme, the computing complexity of multi-dimensional Markov chain (MDMC) modeling in performance analysis is analyzed in detail. It is indicated that state-space cardinality, which reflects the computing complexity of MDMC, increases exponentially with the number of service types and total channels in a cell. However, the state-space cardinality of our 1DMC model for performance analysis is unrelated to the number of service types and is determined by total number of channels and queue capacity of the highest priority service in a cell. At last, the performance comparison between our CAC scheme and Mahmoud ASH's scheme is carried out. The results show that our CAC scheme performs well to some extend.

The stage space in theatre for the performance of a play requires two aspects of the physical space for a play and the image as the background or the theme of a play. This research focuses on the scene design that creates the background or the theme of a play and communicates it to the audience. The scene design is composed of various design elements of space and objects as the properties of a play. Design elements and the objects are the design languages in various form; plane, three-dimensional, multi-dimensional form. These design language have the significant meaning as a sign like human language. The scene design is completed with rhetorical expression for communication in theatre. This research defines the category of meaning that design elements of scene design can create and the rhetorical expression of the scene design language. King Lear directed by Robert G. Anderson was analyzed with the category of design elements as a sign and the pattern of the rhetorical expression. The scene design for a play is completed effectively by the rhetorical expression of design elements as the design language for communication with the audience in theatre.
So far, The methods for identifying the parameters of some region or material have been developed. This paper describes a new method for electric resistivity reconstruction using multi-resolution property of wavelet. The outputs of the potential electrodes are computed using two dimensional FEM in the wave number space by Fourier transforming the governing equation. The resistance distribution in the region of interests, which makes the computed potential distribution coincide with the measured potential, is found by minimizing the objective function using an optimization method. Multi-resolution analysis introduced in this paper will be proved to be the proper method in the viewpoint of effectivity and time-consuming by the numerical results.

An adjoint-based error estimation and mesh adaptation study is conducted for two-dimensional viscous flows on unstructured hybrid meshes. The error in an integral output functional of interest is estimated by a dot product of the residual vector and adjoint variable vector. Regions for the mesh to be adapted are selected based on the amount of local error at each nodal point. Triangular cells in the adaptive regions are refined by regular refinement, and quadrangular cells near viscous walls are bisected accordingly. The present procedure is applied to single-element airfoils such as the RAE2822 at a transonic regime and a diamond-shaped airfoil at a supersonic regime. Then the 30P30N multi-element airfoil at a low subsonic regime with a high incidence angle (${\alpha}=21deg.$) is analyzed. The same level of prediction accuracy for lift and drag is achieved with much less mesh points than the uniform mesh refinement approach. The detailed procedure of the adjoint-based mesh refinement for the multi-element airfoil case show that the basic flow features around the airfoil should be resolved so that the adjoint method can accurately estimate an output error.

In this study, a steady and unsteady aerodynamic analysis program using a 3-dimensional subsonic unstructured panel method is developed and verified. Surfaces of bodies are modeled with the source and doublet distributions on triangular or quadrilateral panels. Geometry modeling of complex geometries and multi-body, therefore, can be easily accomplished. The Kelvin theory and the unsteady Kutta condition allow the doublet strength of the wake panels determined for unsteady flows. Various steady and unsteady flows in two and three dimensions are computed and compared with the analytical and the published computational results.
