  • This article describes the analysis of stable grasping for multi-fingered robot. An analysis method of stable grasping, which is based on the three-dimensional acceleration convex polytope, is proposed. This method is derived from combining dynamic equations governing object motion and robot motion, force relationship and acceleration relationship between robot fingers and object's gravity center through contact condition, and constraint equations for satisfying no-slip conditions at every contact points. After mapping no-slip condition to torque space, we derived intersected region of given torque bounds and the mapped region in torque space so that the intersected region in torque space guarantees no excessive torque as well as no-slip at the contact points. The intersected region in torque space is mapped to an acceleration convex polytope corresponding to the maximum acceleration boundaries which can be exerted by the robot fingers under the given individual bounds of each joints torque and without causing slip at the contacts. As will be shown through the analysis and examples, the stable grasping depends on the joint driving torque limits, the posture and the mass of robot fingers, the configuration and the mass of an object, the grasp position, the friction coefficients between the object surface and finger end-effectors.

  • The present paper deals with the continuous works of extending the multi-dimensional limiting process (MLP) for compressible flows, which has been quite successful in finite volume methods, into discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods. From the series of the previous, it was observed that the MLP shows several superior characteristics, such as an efficient controlling of multi-dimensional oscillations and accurate capturing of both discontinuous and continuous flow features. Mathematically, fundamental mechanism of oscillation-control in multiple dimensions has been established by satisfaction of the maximum principle. The MLP limiting strategy is extended into DG framework, which takes advantage of higher-order reconstruction within compact stencil, to capture detailed flow structures very accurately. At the present, it is observed that the proposed approach yields outstanding performances in resolving non-compressive as well as compressive flaw features. In the presentation, further numerical analyses and results are going to be presented to validate that the newly developed DG-MLP methods provide quite desirable performances in controlling numerical oscillations as well as capturing key flow features.

  • Purpose - The overarching aim of this study is to empirically test the effect of ex-post control mechanisms on multi-dimensional trust and channel performance in franchise systems. Although the franchise system is a vertical marketing channel based on trust between the franchisor and the franchisees, issues related to franchisee's opportunistic behavior have persisted and thus requires research into the effective control system of franchise headquarters. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, data was collected from 150 franchises to identify the effect of two types of franchising headquarters' control system on the multi-dimensional trust and franchise channel outcome between franchisor and franchisee. To test the hypotheses intended to achieve this aim, structural equations modeling technique is utilized. Results - The results of this research reveal that among the two formal control systems studied (output and process control), output control positively and significantly affects multidimensional trust. Additionally, among the three dimensions of trust employed in this study, only expertise has a positive and significant effect on contract compliance. Equally, only expertise and integrity have a negative and significant effect on opportunistic behavior. Conclusions - The study provides managerial and theoretical insights into understanding ex-post control mechanisms, trust, compliance and opportunistic behaviors in franchise systems.

  • While the competition among many portal sites has been very serious in the Internet, very little research has been conducted on the perceptions of the users visiting those sites. To investigate how differently the Internet users perceive each of the portal sites, we attempted to analyze the similarities of five popular portal sites (Daum, Naver, Google, Nate, and MSN). By measuring the conceptual distances among the portal sites using Multi-Dimensional Scaling, this study was intended to understand the positions of the sites relative to those of other sites. The results of this study is expected to contribute to our understanding of competitive contexts among the portal sites.

  • Apparel Quality was one of the most important elements to evaluate the reputations of companies and products which affect the consumer's purchasing behavior. From researches on apparel quality, there was no common concept of quality as well as no common dimensions. The purposes of this study were to identify apparel quality concept and to classify the multi-dimensional concept of apparel quality. The research was carried out in theoretical as well as empirical studies. The theoretical study was conducted to find out apparel quality concept and divide apparel quality concept into four dimensions groups. The empirical study followed the theoretical study to confirm the multi-dimensional concept of apparel quality. The empirical study was investigated that the questionnaire was administered to 634 housewives in Seoul, Kwangju, and Busan during the fall of 1996. The data were analysed by LISREL analysis. This study identified that apparel quality was characteristics of consumer's desires for apparel. The results of the theoretical study verified that apparel quality concept was organized into four different dimensions: physical attribute, physical function, instrumental performance, and expressive performance.

  • A new treatment of cell-interface flux in AUSM-type methods is introduced to reduce the numerical dissipation. Through analysis of TVD limiters, a criterion for the more accurate prediction of cell-interface state is found out and M-AUSMPW+ is developed by determining the transferred property newly and appropriately within the criterion. The superiority of M-AUSMPW+ is clearly revealed in multi-dimensional flow problems. It can eliminate numerical dissipation effectively in a non-flow aligned grid system. As a result, M-AUSMPW+ is shown to be much more accurate and effective than other previous schemes in multi-dimensional problems. Through a stationary contact discontinuity, a vortex flow, a shock wave/boundary layer interactions and viscous shock tube problems, it is verified that accuracy of M-AUSMPW+ is improved.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the concept of social exclusion and underclass and to find out their implication for the poverty policy in Korea. Social exclusion as a concept, on the other hand, offers a broader perspective in addressing multi-dimensional disadvantage, especially in relation to social policy. The term underclass offers a convenient metaphor for use in commentaries on inner city crises because it evokes three widely shared perceptions: novelty, complexity, and danger. Conditions within inner cities are unprecedented; they cannot be reduced to a single factor; and they menace the rest of us. Open debate on the underclass accelerated in 1977 when Time magazine announced the emergence of a menacing underclass in America's inner cities. Drugs, crime, teenage pregnancy, and high unemployment, not poverty, defined the 'underclass,' most of whose members were young and minorities. With the publication in 1982 of Ken Auletta's Underclass, the word secured it dominance in the vocabulary of inner-city pathology. As implications for Korean poverty policy of the concept of social exclusion and underclass, the establishment of multi-dimensional concept of poverty, development of multi-dimensional approach of social work, improvement of National Basic Life Guarantee System, research on employment policy in social welfare field, and research on housing policy for the poor were suggested.

  • The skyline of a multi-dimensional data set is a subset that consists of the data that are not dominated by other members of the set. Skyline computation can be very useful for decision making for multi-dimensional data set. However, in case that the skyline is very large, it may not be much useful for decision making. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for computing a part of the skyline considering location restrictions that the user provides, such as origin movement, degree ranges and/or distances from the origin. The algorithm eliminates noncandidate data rapidly, and returns in order the skyline points that satisfy the user's requests. We show that the algorithm is efficient by experiments.

  • In this paper, I propose the effects of food therapy on subjects' health and happiness. The result has come out that food therapy enhances subjects' multi-dimensional health(medical, functional, self-evaluative) and their happiness. The participants were 230 adults over 30 years old living in Seoul and Gyeonggi district. To examine the effect of food therapy, the study sampled 220 questionnaire out of 230. By the non-equivalent control group design, the health levels were measured in three concepts: medical dimension, functional dimension and self-evaluative dimension. The results are as follows: First, participants who had taken food therapy for 3 months have been enhanced in their subjective and functional health level. Their subjective health enhanced from $2.80{\pm}.44$ to $4.07{\pm}.27$ (p=.000). And their functional health enhanced from $.92{\pm}.07$ to $.94{\pm}.07$(p=.035). Second, participants' happiness has enhanced significantly. Cognitive happiness enhanced from $3.39{\pm}.50$ to $3.84{\pm}.44$(p=.000). And emotional happiness enhanced from $2.76{\pm}.44$ to $3.07{\pm}.34$(p=.000). With this results, in case that people apply food therapy based on Yaksun, they are able to expect their enhancement of health level and happiness. Therefore study shows that Food therapy helps people to pursue their health and happiness improvement and suggest valuable information of a way to enhance quality of life.

  • Optimal sensor placement (OSP) technique plays a key role in the structural health monitoring (SHM) of large-scale structures. According to the mathematical background and implicit assumptions made in the triaxial effective independence (EfI) method, this paper presents a novel multi-dimensional OSP method for the Canton Tower focusing on application demands. In contrast to existing methods, the presented method renders the corresponding target mode shape partitions as linearly independent as possible and, at the same time, maintains the stability of the modal matrix in the iteration process. The modal assurance criterion (MAC), determinant of the Fisher Information Matrix (FIM) and condition number of the FIM have been taken as the optimal criteria, respectively, to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. Numerical investigations suggest that the proposed method outperforms the original EfI method in all instances as expected, which is looked forward to be even more pronounced should it be used for other multi-dimensional optimization problems.
