  • Cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) has been used as a light source for direct type backlights for LCD monitors or TV. One inverter for one CCFL was necessary for maintaining the lamp current so that many inverters were used to drive as many CCFLs of direct type backlight for LCD TV. An inverter for driving 16 CCFLs was developed to reduce the backlight cost. The length and diameter of CCFL were 450mm and 4mm, respectively. Backlight including 16 CCFLs for 26" LCD TV was assembled by using one inverter. The uniformities of the assembled backlight operated by the conventional inverter and the newly developed inverter were 75% and 88%, respectively.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis of hydrogen recycle system has been conducted in order to enhance the efficiency of automotive fuel cell. Generally, the excess hydrogen is provided in the automotive fuel cell. Since the non-reaction hydrogen reduces automotive fuel cell efficiency, reuse of the non-reaction hydrogen can be helpful to improve the fuel cell performance. In case of PEM FC, the water vapor is provided to hydrogen from the cathode so that the mixture experiences phase change depending on the changes of pressure and temperature. The internal flow of the mixture in the hydrogen recirculation system of fuel cell was investigated for real flow conditions. The variation of performance, properties and mass fractions of mixture, hydrogen and water-vapor were investigated. This study was performed based on 80KW level automotive fuel cell's recycling system.

  • The cementitious composites have been developed to satisfy various demands of the construction market. The conductive concrete, which is a carbon-based cementitious composite, was used for the deicing or the detecting the internal crack. The cement-based battery is a technology that applies the basic concept of the alkaline battery to these conductive concretes. The cementitious composites could have a function as batteries, through a mixing of anode and cathode, which were consist of the zinc and manganese dioxide powder. The carbon-based materials, which have a significant effect on electrical properties, could be considered as the main variable in cement-based batteries. Therefore, in this study, the effects of carbon-based materials were investigated. Two types of materials, including the Carbon black and Multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWCNT), were considered as the main variables. From the experiment results, the electrical characteristics such as resistance, voltage, and current were compared according to the age.

  • We report the use of fluorene based copolymers containing quinoline(POF66, PIF66) and pyridine(PFPV) units as electron transporting polymers for multi-layered LEDs. Double-layer device structure combining PIF66 as electron-transporting layer with the emissive MEHPPV showed a maximum quantum efficiency of 0.03%, which is 30 fold increased compared with ITO/MEHPPV/Al single-layer device. PFPV layer increased the quantum efficiency up to 0.1% in the device structure of ITO/(P-3:PVK)/PFPV/Al. The ETL with the electron deficient moiety improved the LED performance by the characteristics of electron transporting as well as hole blocking between emissive layer and metal cathode.

  • Organic EL has been expected to adopt to a new styles of technology that make flat display after Tang & Vanslyke made good electric luminescence device in late 1980s. Their studies based on multi layer structure that consists of emitting layer and carrier transporting layer using proper organic material. But oxidization of organic layer by ITO, energy walls in both pole interface, contaminations of ITO surface, importance of protecting membrane, diffusive dimming of light to cathode organic layer, these causes of degradations are common facts of a macromolecule and micro molecule. We think these degradation caused by the impact of heat and electro-chemical factor, bulk effect and interface phenomenon, and raise a question.

  • This paper describes a new design of carbon nanotube tip. $Nanocly^{TM}$ NC 7000 Thin Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes of carbon purity (90%) and average diameter tube 9.5 nm with a high aspect-ratio (>150) were used. These tips were manufactured by employing a drawing technique using a glass puller. The glass microemitters with internal carbon nanotubes show a switch-on effect to a high current level (1 to $20{\mu}A$). A field electron microscope with a tip (cathode)-screen (anode) separation at ~10 mm was used to characterize the electron emitters. The system was evacuated down to a base pressure of ${\sim}10^{-9}$ mbar when baked at up to ${\sim}200^{\circ}C$ overnight. This allowed measurements of typical Field Electron Emission characteristics; namely the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and the emission images on a conductive phosphorus screen (the anode). Fowler-Nordheim plots of the current-voltage characteristics show current switch-on for each of these emitters.

  • We fabricated red and blue organic light emitting display (OLEDs) which had the two kinds of multi-structure of ITO/HIL/HTL/EML/ETL/LiF/Al and ITO/HIL/HTL/EML/ETL/LiF/Al/LiF. In the case of red OLED that had LiF/Al/LiF structure compared to LiF/Al structure, the current density increased from 4.3 mA/$cm^2$ to 7.3 mA/$cm^2$, and the brightness increased from 488 cd/$m^2$ to 1,023 cd/$m^2$ at 7.0 V, and as a result the current efficiency was improved from 11.28 cd/A to 13.95 cd/A. Also in the case of blue OLED that had LiF on Al cathode layer, the current density increased from 1.2 mA/$cm^2$ to 1.8 mA/$cm^2$, and the brightness increased from 45 cd/$m^2$ to 85 cd/$m^2$ at 7.0 V, and as a result the current efficiency was improved from 3.69 cd/A to 4.82 cd/A. Through these experimental results it could be suggested that the LiF layer formed on Al prevents the oxidation of Al surface, and the electrode resistance become low with increase of supplied electrons, therefore the brightness and the efficiency are improved from the influence to the well-balanced bonding of electron and hole at emitting layer.

  • This paper presents the understandings carried out for the installation of the hydrogen reservoir of the multi-gap pseudospark switch under developing for the accelerator applications. As a cold cold cathode switch, the pseudospark switch could replace the thyratron switch which has hot cathode and being used well currently in the high power field such as laser and accelerator applications. Especially in the klystron modulator, the key component is a switch which mostly defines the jitter and the instability of the modulator system. To get the less jitter and the instability, we need to find proper range of the pressure for the gas discharge inside gas switch. This could be achieved by the understanding of the characteristic of the nonevaporable getter (NEG) which is used as a hydrogen reservoir for the switch. Therefore we verified the characteristics of the NEG (St 172, Saes) and its installation in the switch. Finally we controlled the getter to find best pressure point for the pseudospark switch.
