  • Researchers seeking geological and environmental information, depend on remote sensing and aerial photographic datum from various commercial satellites and aircraft. However, adverse weather conditions as well as equipment expense limit the ability to collect data anywhere and anytime. To allow for better flexibility in geological and environmental data collection, we have developed a compact, multi-spectral automatic Aerial Photographic system (PKNU2). This system's Multi-spectral camera can record visible (RGB) and infrared (NIR) band (3032*2008 Pixels) images Visible and infrared band images were obtained from each camera respectively and produced color-infrared composite images to be analyzed for the purpose of the environmental monitoring. However this did not provide quality data. Furthermore, it has the disadvantage of having the stereoscopic overlap area being 60% unsatisfied due to the 12 seconds of storage time of each data The PKNU2 system in contrast, photographed photos of great capacity Thus, with such results, we have been proceeding to develop the advanced PKNU2 (PKNU3) system that consists of a color-infrared spectral camera that can photograph in the visible and near-infrared bands simultaneously using a single sensor, a thermal infrared camera, two 40G computers to store images, and an MPEG board that can compress and transfer data to the computer in real time as well as be able to be mounted onto a helicopter platform.

  • This paper introduces the Optical Camera Communications (OCC) using image processing technique. The architecture and operation of OCC system are given. To enhance data rate which is limited by sampling operation of commercial 30fps camera, multi colors transmission technique is employed, leading to the importance of color image processing technique. Multi color encoding and image processing based decoding will be proposed in the paper.

  • Camera calibration is the process of determining the coordinate relationship between a camera image and its real world space. Accurate calibration of a camera is necessary for the applications that involve quantitative measurement of camera images. However, if the camera plane is parallel or near parallel to the calibration board on which 2 dimensional objects are defined(this is called "ill-conditioned"), existing solution procedures are not well applied. In this paper, we propose a neural network-based approach to camera calibration for 2D images formed by a mono-camera or a pair of cameras. Multi-layer perceptrons are developed to transform the coordinates of each image point to the world coordinates. The validity of the approach is tested with data points which cover the whole 2D space concerned. Experimental results for both mono-camera and stereo-camera cases indicate that the proposed approach is comparable to Tsai's method[8]. Especially for the stereo camera case, the approach works better than the Tsai's method as the angle between the camera optical axis and the Z-axis increases. Therefore, we believe the approach could be an alternative solution procedure for the ill -conditioned camera calibration.libration.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for digital matting using a multi-view camera system. In order to generate multi-view synthetic aperture images, we first move all images obtained from the multi-view camera according to their disparities. After we obtain corresponding trimaps by taking a variance of the synthetic aperture images, we convert the trimaps into multi-view alpha mattes. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can create the composite images successfully by combining foreground objects with multi-view background images.

  • This paper proposes a design and development plan for a control program for the MX-10 EO/IR camera. This camera is a piece of mission equipment mounted on the multi-purpose unmanned helicopter (MPUH) system. Operators must be able to control the necessary functions of the camera to perform their assigned tasks. To achieve this, the function to control the camera was analyzed, and a control program was developed. In addition, the control program was linked to a joystick for convenient operation of the camera by the operator.

  • In this paper, we present a multi-depth generation method using a time-of-flight (ToF) fusion camera system. Multi-view color cameras in the parallel type and ToF depth sensors are used for 3D scene capturing. Although each ToF depth sensor can measure the depth information of the scene in real-time, it has several problems to overcome. Therefore, after we capture low-resolution depth images by ToF depth sensors, we perform a post-processing to solve the problems. Then, the depth information of the depth sensor is warped to color image positions and used as initial disparity values. In addition, the warped depth data is used to generate a depth-discontinuity map for efficient stereo matching. By applying the stereo matching using belief propagation with the depth-discontinuity map and the initial disparity information, we have obtained more accurate and stable multi-view disparity maps in reduced time.

  • A study on the topology optimization of a multi-spectral camera for space-use is presented. The optimization is carried out under self-weight and polishing pressure loading. A multi-spectral camera for space-use experiences degradation of optical image in the space, which can not be detected on the optical test bench on the earth. An optical surface deformation of a primary mirror, which is a principal component of the camera system, is an important factor affecting the optical performance of the whole camera system. In this study, topology optimization of the primary mirror of the camera is presented. As an objective function, a measure of Strehl ratio is used. Total mass of the primary mirror is given as a constraint to the optimization problem. The sensitivities of the objective function and constraint are calculated by direct differentiation method. Optimization procedure is carried out by an optimality criteria method. For the light-weight primary mirror design, a three dimensional model is treated. As a preliminary example, topology optimization considering a self-weight loading is treated. In the second example, the polishing pressure is also included as a loading in the topology optimization of the mirror. Results of the optimized design topology for the mirror with various mass constraints are presented.

  • This study deals with the demonstration of precision agriculture technology that can predict the health status of crops by analyzing the vegetation index (NDVI) using a drone equipped with a multi-spectral camera and an EO/IR camera. The multi-spectral camera measures crop reflectance to determine the vegetation index, while the EO/IR camera detects temperature changes in crops to evaluate water stress and health status. Data from this study can improve agricultural productivity and optimize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Moreover, integrating object recognition technology in the future could turn precision agriculture into a vital alternative for enhancing the sustainability of agriculture.

  • Recently, one of the most outstanding technological characteristics of aerial survey is an application of Direct Georeferencing, which is based on the integration of main sensing sensors such as aerial camera or Lidar with positioning sensors GPS and IMU. In addition, a variety of digital aerial mapping cameras is developed and supplied with the verification of their technical superiority and applicability. In accordance with this requirement, the development of a multi-looking aerial photographing system is just making 3-D information acquisition and texture mapping possible for the dead areas arising from building side and high terrain variation where the use of traditional phptogrammetry is not valid. However, the development of a multi-looking camera integrating different sensors and multi-camera array causes some problems to conduct time synchronization among sensors and their geometric and radiometric calibration. The establishment of a test field for aerial sensor calibration is absolutely necessary to solve this problem. Therefore, this paper describes investigations for photogrammetric Test Field of foreign countries and suggest an establishment scheme for domestic test field.
