  • Neural network control has many innovative potentials for fast, accurate and intelligent adaptive control. In this paper, a learning control architecture for the dynamic control of a robot manipulator is developed using inverse dynamic neurocontroller and linear neurocontroher. The inverse dynamic neurocontrouer consists of a MLP (multi-layer perceptron) and the linear neurocontroller consists of SLPs (single layer perceptron). Compared with the previous type of neurocontroller which is using an inverse dynamic neurocontroller and a fixed PD gain controller, proposed architecture shows the superior performance over the previous type of neurocontroller because linear neurocontroller can adapt its gain according to the applied task. This superior performance is tested and verified through the control of PUMA 560. Without any knowledge on the dynamic model, its parameters of a robot , (The robot is treated as a complete black box), the neurocontroller, through practice, gradually and implicitly learns the robot's dynamic properties which is essential for fast and accurate control.

  • In this paper, we improve the performance of cardiac disorder classification by continuous heart sound signals using automatic segmentation and extreme learning machine (ELM). The accuracy of the conventional cardiac disorder classification systems degrades because murmurs and click sounds contained in the abnormal heart sound signals cause incorrect or missing starting points of the first (S1) and the second heart pulses (S2) in the automatic segmentation stage, In order to reduce the performance degradation due to segmentation errors, we find the positions of the S1 and S2 pulses, modify them using the time difference of S1 or S2, and extract a single period of heart sound signals. We then obtain a feature vector consisting of the mel-scaled filter bank energy coefficients and the envelope of uniform-sized sub-segments from the single-period heart sound signals. To classify the heart disorders, we use ELM with a single hidden layer. In cardiac disorder classification experiments with 9 cardiac disorder categories, the proposed method shows the classification accuracy of 81.6% and achieves the highest classification accuracy among ELM, multi-layer perceptron (MLP), support vector machine (SVM), and hidden Markov model (HMM).

  • As they have more and more intelligence robots or computers these days, so the interaction between intelligence robot(computer) - human is getting more and more important also the emotion recognition and expression are indispensable for interaction between intelligence robot(computer) - human. In this paper, firstly we extract emotional features at speech signal and facial image. Secondly we apply both BL(Bayesian Learning) and PCA(Principal Component Analysis), lastly we classify five emotions patterns(normal, happy, anger, surprise and sad) also, we experiment with decision fusion and feature fusion to enhance emotion recognition rate. The decision fusion method experiment on emotion recognition that result values of each recognition system apply Fuzzy membership function and the feature fusion method selects superior features through SFS(Sequential Forward Selection) method and superior features are applied to Neural Networks based on MLP(Multi Layer Perceptron) for classifying five emotions patterns. and recognized result apply to 2D facial shape for express emotion.

  • Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was predicted using Cascade Correlation Network (CCN) model. CCN was suggested, by Fahlman and Lebiere [1990], to overcome the limitations of backpropagation algorithm such as step size problem and moving target problem. To test the applicability of CCN as a function approximator to the stock price movements, CCN was used as a tool for univariate time series analysis. The fitting and forecasting performance fo CCN on the KOSPI was compared with those of Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP).

  • Computational drawbacks associated with regular predictive models have motivated engineers to use hybrid techniques in dealing with complex engineering tasks like simulating the compressive strength of concrete (CSC). This study evaluates the efficiency of tree potential metaheuristic schemes, namely shuffled complex evolution (SCE), multi-verse optimizer (MVO), and beetle antennae search (BAS) for optimizing the performance of a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) system. The models are fed by the information of 1030 concrete specimens (where the amount of cement, blast furnace slag (BFS), fly ash (FA1), water, superplasticizer (SP), coarse aggregate (CA), and fine aggregate (FA2) are taken as independent factors). The results of the ensembles are compared to unreinforced MLP to examine improvements resulted from the incorporation of the SCE, MVO, and BAS. It was shown that these algorithms can considerably enhance the training and prediction accuracy of the MLP. Overall, the proposed models are capable of presenting an early, inexpensive, and reliable prediction of the CSC. Due to the higher accuracy of the BAS-based model, a predictive formula is extracted from this algorithm.

  • Speech has a good characteristics of which car drivers busy to concern with miscellaneous operation can make use in convenient handling and manipulating of devices. By utilizing this, this works proposes a speaker verification method for protecting cars from being stolen and identifying a person trying to access critical on-line services. In this, continuant phonemes recognition which uses language information of speech and MLP(mult-layer perceptron) which has some advantages against previous stochastic methods are adopted. The recognition method, though, involves huge computation amount for learning, so it is somewhat difficult to adopt this in speaker verification application in which speakers should enroll themselves at real time. To relieve this problem, this works presents a solution that introduces speaker cohort models from speaker verification score normalization technique established before, dividing background speakers into small cohorts in advance. As a result, this enables computation burden to be reduced through classifying the enrolling speaker into one of those cohorts and going through enrollment for only that cohort.

  • This paper proposes a method to simultaneously estimate two degrees of freedom in wrist forces (extension - flexion, adduction - abduction) and one degree of freedom in grasping forces using Electromyography (EMG) signals of the forearms. To correlate the EMG signals with the forces, we applied a multi - layer perceptron(MLP), which is a machine learning method, and used the characteristics of the muscles constituting the forearm to generate learning data. Through the experiments, the similarity between the MLP target value and the estimated value was investigated by applying the coefficient of determination ($R^2$) and root mean square error (RMSE) to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. As a result, the $R^2$ values with respect to the wrist flexion-extension, adduction - abduction and grasping forces were 0.79, 0.73 and 0.78 and RMSE were 0.12, 0.17, 0.13 respectively.

  • Due to recent expansion of online market such as clothing, utilizing customer review has become a major marketing measure. User review has been used as a tool of analyzing sentiment of customers. Sentiment analysis can be largely classified with machine learning-based and lexicon-based method. Machine learning-based method is a learning classification model referring review and labels. As research of sentiment analysis has been developed, multi-modal models learned by images and video data in reviews has been studied. Characteristics of words in reviews are differentiated depending on products' and customers' categories. In this paper, sentiment is analyzed via considering review data and metadata of products and users. Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Self Attention-based Multi-head Attention models and Bidirectional Encoder Representation from Transformer (BERT) are used in this study. Same Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) model is used upon every products information. This paper suggests a multi-modal sentiment analysis model that simultaneously considers user reviews and product meta-information.

  • With millions of people across the globe suffering from Parkinson's disease (PD), an objective, confirmatory test for the same is yet to be developed. This research aims to develop a system which can assist the doctor in objectively saying whether the patient is normal or under risk of PD. The proposed work combines the eye-hand co-ordination behaviour with the DaTscan images in order to determine the risk of this disorder. Initially, eye-hand coordination level of the patient is assessed through a hardware module. Then, the DaTscan image is analysed and used to extract certain geometrical parameters which shall indicate the presence of PD. These parameters are then finally fed into a Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network using Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) Back propagation training algorithm. Experimental results indicate that the proposed system exhibits an accuracy of around 93%.
