Traffic flow capacity of some old road bridges is insufficient due to limited deck width. In such cases bridge deck widening is a common solution. For multi-girder reinforced concrete (RC) bridges it is possible to add steel-concrete composite girders as the new outermost girders. The deck widening may be combined with bridge strengthening thanks to thickening of the existing deck slab. Joint action of the existing and the added parts of such bridge span must be ensured. It refers especially to the horizontal plane at the interface of the existing slab and the added concrete layer as well as to the vertical planes at the external surfaces of the initially outermost girders where the added girders are connected to the existing bridge span. Since the distribution of the added concrete is non-uniform in the span cross-section the structure is particularly sensitive to the added concrete shrinkage. The shrinkage induces shear forces in the aforementioned planes. Widening of a 12 m long RC multi-girder bridge span is numerically analysed to assess the influence of the added concrete shrinkage. The analysis results show that: a) in the vertical plane of the connection of the added and the existing deck slab the longitudinal shear due to the shrinkage of the added concrete is comparable with the effect of live load, b) it is necessary to provide appropriate longitudinal reinforcement in the deck slab over the added girders due to tension induced by the shrinkage of the added concrete.

The aeration of an overtopping wave on a vertical structure generated by a plunging wave was investigated through laboratory measurements of void fraction. The overtopping wave occurring after wave breaking becomes multi-phased and turbulent with significant aeration, so that the void fraction of the flow is of importance. In this study, fiber optic reflectometer and bubble image velocimetry were employed to measure the void fraction, velocity, and layer thickness of the overtopping flow. Mean properties were obtained by ensembleand time-averaging the repeated instantaneous void fractions and velocities. The mean void fractions show that the overtopping wave is very high-aerated near the overtopping wave front and relatively low-aerated near the deck surface and rear free surface of the wave. The flow rate and momentum of the overtopping flow estimated using the measured data show that the void ratio is an important parameter to consider in the multiphase flow. From the similarity profiles of the depth-averaged void fraction, velocity, and layer thickness, one-dimensional empirical equations were obtained and used to estimate the flow rate and momentum of the overtopping flow.

As the product lifecycle is getting shorter and various models should be released to respond to the needs of customers and markets, automation-based flexible production line has been recognized as the core competitiveness. According to these trends, system vendors supply cell-level systems such as FMC(Flexible Manufacturing Cell) that is integration of core functions of FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) and RMC(Reconfigurable Manufacturing Cell) that can easily extend components of FMC. In the cell-based environment, flexible management for shop floor composed of existing job shop, FMCs and RMCs from various system vendors has emerged as an important issue. However, there could be some problems on integrated operation between heterogeneous cells to use vendor-specific cell controllers and on seamless information flow with high level systems such as ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning). In this context, this paper proposes process management systems supporting integrated shop operation of heterogeneous multi-cell based flexible manufacturing environment: First of all, (1) Integrated Shop Operation System to apply the process management system is introduced, and (2) Multi-Layer BOP(Bill-Of-Process) model, a backbone of the process management system, is derived with its data structure. Finally, application of the proposed model is illustrated through system implementation results.

We grew multi-stacked InAs/$In_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}As$ DWELL (dot-in-a-well) structure by metal organic chemical vapor deposition and investigated optical properties by photoluminescence and I-V characteristics by dark current measurement. When stacking InAs quantum dots (QDs) with same growth parameter, the size and density of QDs were changed, resulting in the bimodal emission peak. By decreasing the flow rate of TMIn, we achieved the uniform multi-stacked QD structure which had the single emission peak and high PL intensity. As the growth temperature of n-type GaAs top contact layer (TCL) is above $600^{\circ}C$, the PL intensity severely decreased and dark current level increased. At bias of 0.5 V, the activation energy for temperature dependence of dark current decreased from 106 meV to 48 meV with increasing the growth temperature of n-type GaAs TCL from 580 to $650^{\circ}C$. This suggest that the thermal escape of bounded electrons and non-radiative transition become dominant due to the thermal inter-diffusion at the interface between InAs QDs and $In_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}As$ well layer.

Multi-dimensional fire dynamics were studied numerically with the change in ventilation conditions in a full-scale ISO 9705 room. Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) was used for the identical conditions conducted in previous experiments. Flow rate and doorway width were changed to create over-ventilated fire (OVF) and under-ventilated fire (UVF). From the numerical simulation, it was found that the internal flow pattern rotated in the opposite direction for the UVF relative to the OVF so that a portion of products recirculated to the inside of compartment. Significant change in flow pattern with ventilation conditions may affect changes in the complex process of CO and soot formation inside the compartment due to increase in the residence time of high-temperature products. The fire behavior in the UVF created complex 3D characteristics of species distribution as well as thermal and flow structures. In particular, additional burning near the side wall inside the compartment significantly affected the flow pattern and CO production. The distribution of CO inside the compartment was explained with 3D $O_2$ distribution and flow patterns. It was observed that gas sampling at local positions in the upper layer were insufficient to completely characterize the internal structure of the compartment fire.

Numerical analysis of aerodynamic heating for KPSAM is performed using aerodynamic heating model suitable to KPSAM, which has complex flow field resulting from the spike attached to the dome, such as large separation area and the strong shock/boundary layer interaction region around reattachment point on the dome. The aerodynamic heating model is validated and modified through the comparison between the flight test measurement and the thermal analysis results. TFD temperature sensors are installed on the dome to measure surface temperature during the flight. Computation results, obtained from the heat transfer analysis on the sensors, agree well with flight test data. The aerodynamic heating model provides heat transfer rate into surface as a boundary condition of unsteady 1D/axisymmetric thermal analysis on the missile structure. The axisymmetric thermal analysis using FLUENT is more versatile than the 1D analysis and can be applied to the heating problem related with complex structures and multi-dimensional heat transfer problems such as prediction of temperature rise at contact surface of different materials.

CORC, which is being studied as one of the conductors for large currents, is manufactured by symmetrically arranging several strands of high-temperature superconducting wires on a cylindrical former. It allows current to flow evenly between wires and has the advantage of being manufactured in a multi-layer structure to increase current capacity. In order to apply CORC to AC power devices, it is necessary to review the material of the former, which is the frame around which the superconducting wire is wound. In the case of metal formers, they are difficult to apply because eddy currents are generated in the former, and they do not have the flexibility to be manufactured into coils by winding them with CORC. In this paper, we compare and analyze the magnetization loss caused by an external alternating magnetic field of Litz wire, which is being considered as a former material for CORC, with the results from formers made of other materials. In addition, we experimentally examine the effect of reducing magnetization loss due to an external magnetic field in CORC using a split wire made by dividing a high-temperature superconducting wire into two using an etching method, and in CORC made with a non-split wire.

All solid-state thin film micro supercapacitor, which consists of $RuO_2$/LiPON/$RuO_2$ multi layer structure, was fabricated on Pt/Ti/Si substrate using a $RuO_2$ electrode. Bottom $RuO_2$ electrode was grown by dc reactive sputtering system with increasing $O_2/[Ar+O_2]$ ratio at room temperature, and a LiPON electrolyte film was subsequently deposited on the bottom $RuO_2$ electrode at pure nitrogen ambient by rf reactive sputtering system. Room temperature charge-discharge measurements based on a symmetric $RuO_2$/LiPON/$RuO_2$ structure clearly demonstrates the cyclibility dependence on the microstructure of the $RuO_2$ electrode. Using both glancing angle x-ray diffraction (GXRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, it was found that the microstructure of the $RuO_2$ electrode was dependent on the oxygen flow ratio. In addition, x- ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) examination shows that the Ru-O binding energy is affected by increasing oxygen flow ratio. Furthermore, TEM and AES depth profile analysis after cycling demonstrates that the interface layer formed by interfacial reaction between LiPON and $RuO_2$ act as a main factor in the degradation of the cyclibility of the thin film micro-supercapacitor.

;The growth of films have considerable interest in the field of superlattice structured multi-layer epitaxy led to realization of new devices concepts. Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) with in situ observation by reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) is a key technology for controlled layered growth on the atomic scale in oxide crystal thin films. Also, the combination of radical oxygen source and MBE will certainly accelerate the progress of applications of oxides. In this study, the growth process of single crystal films using by MBE method is discussed taking the oxide materials of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu family. Oxidation was provided by a flux density of activated oxygen (oxygen radicals) from an rf-excited discharge. Generation of oxygen radicals is obtained in a specially designed radical sources with different types (coil and electrode types). Molecular oxygen was introduced into a quartz tube through a variable leak valve with mass flowmeter. Corresponding to the oxygen flow rate, the pressure of the system ranged from $1{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{-6}{\;}Torr{\;}to{\;}5{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{-5}$ Torr. The base pressure was $1{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{-10}$ Torr. The growth of Bi-oxides was achieved by coevaporation of metal elements and oxygen. In this way a Bi-oxide multilayer structure was prepared on a basal-plane MgO or $SrTiO_3$ substrate. The grown films compiled using RHEED patterns during and after the growth. Futher, the exact observation of oxygen radicals with MBE is an important technology for a approach of growth conditions on stoichiometry and perfection on the atomic scale in oxide. The oxidization degree, which is determined and controlled by the number of activated oxygen when using radical sources of two types, are utilized by voltage locked loop (VLL) method. Coil type is suitable for oxygen radical source than electrode type. The relationship between the flux of oxygen radical and the rf power or oxygen partial pressure estimated. The flux of radicals increases as the rf power increases, and indicates to the frequency change having the the value of about $2{\times}10^{14}{\;}atoms{\;}{\cdots}{\;}cm^{-2}{\;}{\cdots}{\;}S^{-I}$ when the oxygen flow rate of 2.0 seem and rf power 150 W.150 W.

Hybrid rockets have lately attracted attention as a strong candidate of small, low cost, safe and reliable launch vehicles. A significant topic is that the first commercially sponsored space ship, SpaceShipOne vehicle chose a hybrid rocket. The main factors for the choice were safety of operation, system cost, quick turnaround, and thrust termination. In Japan, five universities including Hokkaido University and three private companies organized "Hybrid Rocket Research Group" from 1998 to 2002. Their main purpose was to downsize the cost and scale of rocket experiments. In 2002, UNISEC (University Space Engineering Consortium) and HASTIC (Hokkaido Aerospace Science and Technology Incubation Center) took over the educational and R&D rocket activities respectively and the research group dissolved. In 2008, JAXA/ISAS and eleven universities formed "Hybrid Rocket Research Working Group" as a subcommittee of the Steering Committee for Space Engineering in ISAS. Their goal is to demonstrate technical feasibility of lowcost and high frequency launches of nano/micro satellites into sun-synchronous orbits. Hybrid rockets use a combination of solid and liquid propellants. Usually the fuel is in a solid phase. A serious problem of hybrid rockets is the low regression rate of the solid fuel. In single port hybrids the low regression rate below 1 mm/s causes large L/D exceeding a hundred and small fuel loading ratio falling below 0.3. Multi-port hybrids are a typical solution to solve this problem. However, this solution is not the mainstream in Japan. Another approach is to use high regression rate fuels. For example, a fuel regression rate of 4 mm/s decreases L/D to around 10 and increases the loading ratio to around 0.75. Liquefying fuels such as paraffins are strong candidates for high regression fuels and subject of active research in Japan too. Nakagawa et al. in Tokai University employed EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) to modify viscosity of paraffin based fuels and investigated the effect of viscosity on regression rates. Wada et al. in Akita University employed LTP (Low melting ThermoPlastic) as another candidate of liquefying fuels and demonstrated high regression rates comparable to paraffin fuels. Hori et al. in JAXA/ISAS employed glycidylazide-poly(ethylene glycol) (GAP-PEG) copolymers as high regression rate fuels and modified the combustion characteristics by changing the PEG mixing ratio. Regression rate improvement by changing internal ballistics is another stream of research. The author proposed a new fuel configuration named "CAMUI" in 1998. CAMUI comes from an abbreviation of "cascaded multistage impinging-jet" meaning the distinctive flow field. A CAMUI type fuel grain consists of several cylindrical fuel blocks with two ports in axial direction. The port alignment shifts 90 degrees with each other to make jets out of ports impinge on the upstream end face of the downstream fuel block, resulting in intense heat transfer to the fuel. Yuasa et al. in Tokyo Metropolitan University employed swirling injection method and improved regression rates more than three times higher. However, regression rate distribution along the axis is not uniform due to the decay of the swirl strength. Aso et al. in Kyushu University employed multi-swirl injection to solve this problem. Combinations of swirling injection and paraffin based fuel have been tried and some results show very high regression rates exceeding ten times of conventional one. High fuel regression rates by new fuel, new internal ballistics, or combination of them require faster fuel-oxidizer mixing to maintain combustion efficiency. Nakagawa et al. succeeded to improve combustion efficiency of a paraffin-based fuel from 77% to 96% by a baffle plate. Another effective approach some researchers are trying is to use an aft-chamber to increase residence time. Better understanding of the new flow fields is necessary to reveal basic mechanisms of regression enhancement. Yuasa et al. visualized the combustion field in a swirling injection type motor. Nakagawa et al. observed boundary layer combustion of wax-based fuels. To understand detailed flow structures in swirling flow type hybrids, Sawada et al. (Tohoku Univ.), Teramoto et al. (Univ. of Tokyo), Shimada et al. (ISAS), and Tsuboi et al. (Kyushu Inst. Tech.) are trying to simulate the flow field numerically. Main challenges are turbulent reaction, stiffness due to low Mach number flow, fuel regression model, and other non-steady phenomena. Oshima et al. in Hokkaido University simulated CAMUI type flow fields and discussed correspondence relation between regression distribution of a burning surface and the vortex structure over the surface.
