  • The new materials such as graphene and other nano scale structured materials are attracting great attention due to its expandability for the future electronic devices. In this presentation, a variety of analysis techniques will be introduced for the latest new material applications such as graphene and organic materials with number of metals. The basic properties of next generation device should be carefully analyzed without being exposed to ambient surrounding since the physical and chemical properties of new material or interface states are easily and drastically changed by ambient condition. With the combination of the fabrication process and precise analysis instruments, it is expected to set the facilities supporting the nanotechnology industry and other research groups. This system will give strong support nanotechnology and other complex science with qualified data and information on basic knowledge on the new-forthcoming materials for the future.

This method is applied to mano-technology field at the level of national R&D program. 56 nano-technologies are analyzed and grouped into three main clusters based on the survey data from 180 experts. Three main clusters are \circled1 naro-materials related cluster, \circled2 naro-device related cluster, and \circled3 naro-bio related cluster. These three clusters are coincided with the focused areas of nano-technology in Korea. Each cluster is analyzed in view of its competence position.

  • This paper describes an optimal design system for multi-disciplinary structural design. An automatic finite element (FE) mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry technique, is incorporated into the system, together with a commercial FE analysis code and a commercial solid modelers. An optimum design solution or satisfactory solutions are then automatically searched using the genetic algorithms modified for real search space, together with the automated FE analysis system. With an aid of genetic algorithms, the present design system allows us to effectively obtain a multi-dimensional solutions. The developed system is successfully applied to the shape design of a micro accelerometer based on a tunnel current concept.

  • The design cycle associated with large engineering systems requires an initial decomposition of the complex system into design processes which are coupled through the transference of output data. Some of these design processes may be grouped into iterative subcycles. In analyzing or optimizing such a coupled system, it is essential to determine the best order of the processes within these subcycles to reduce design cycle time and cost. This is accomplished by decomposing large multidisciplinary problems into several multidisciplinary analysis subsystems (MDASS) and processing it in parallel. This paper proposes new strategy for parallel decomposition of multidisciplinary problems to improve design efficiency by using the multiple objective genetic algorithm (MOGA), and a sample test case is presented to show the effects of optimizing the sequence with MOGA.

  • This study attempts to find out the spatial characteristics of the converging technology laboratory. For this, the understanding of the nature of converging technology and its necessary system requirements are crucial. The foremost concern lies in the 'flexibility' of the laboratory space, i.e. 'open-lab system', because of the multi-disciplinary spatial arrangement which is supposed to be open to a number of different research fields in the same building cluster. From the case analysis, this study reveals that in order to maximize the adjustability, the module based space unit plan should be considered at the earliest stage. In addition, it is also found from the analysis that the linkage of the communication spaces such as seminar room, auditorium, lounge, rest room, dining room, and corridors should be dealt with a higher degree of sophistication, since these facilitate the interaction of information at the behavioral level.

  • For the design of welded bogie frame, the concept of multidisciplinary engineering activities, i.e. static, fatigue and dynamic analysis, has been applied, in which the sharing of design parameters related with each analysis and the collaboration of the working parts in charge should be fulfilled. However, in spite of these necessities, the multi-disciplinary engineering activities couldn't be performed in practice due to tack of the automation of the required analysis. In this paper, an automation of fatigue durability analysis of welded bogie frame according to UIC-Code was proposed by using the Model Center, which enables to integrate the several tools for the fatigue durability analysis, i.e. I-DEAS, ANSYS and BFAP, and to perform iterative analysis works in relation to the geometrical change of transom support bracket. Besides, the wrapping programs to control I/O-data and interfaces of these tools were developed. The developed automation technique brings not only significant decreasing man-hour required in the durability analysis, but also providing a platform of the multidisciplinary engineering activities.

  • It is important to manage internal and external interfaces in a system integration. As there are many of related multi-disciplinary engineers and high level complexity in big and complex project, it is difficult that carrying out interfaces management by consistent method. We study the method that represent efficiently system interfaces by matrix structure. And we suggest the way to identify system interfaces and trace interfaces between components using Interface Analysis Matrix and Interface Control Document.

  • This paper proposes a multi-disciplinary approach for fashion criticism in museology through an analysis of the 2014 Charles James's retrospective. It includes the following elicitations. First, it explores a critical discussion of "dress museology" as well as "fashion museology" and the complexity of fashion in museums. Second, this paper reorganizes Fleming's (1974) artifact study and Crane and Bovone's (2006) critical theory for fashion criticism in museology by comparing "object-based" research with an "academic" approach. Third, it applies fashion criticism methodology as a case study to the aforementioned museum fashion exhibit, entitled . We can subsequently begin to reconsider concepts of art and fashion within present culture based on inclusive fashion criticism of aesthetic and cultural events.
