  • We present our efforts for extending the simultaneous multi-frequency receiver system of the Korean Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Network (KVN) to global baselines in order to measure the frequency-dependent position shifts in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) jets, the so called core shift effect, with an unprecedented accuracy (a few micro-arcseconds). Millimeter VLBI observations with simultaneous multi-frequency receiver systems, like those of the KVN, enable us to explore the innermost regions of AGN and high precision astrometry. Such a system is capable of locating the frequency dependent opacity changes accurately. We have conducted the feasibility test-observations with the interested partners by implementing the KVN-compatible systems. Here we describe the science case for measuring the core shift effect in the AGN jet and report progress and future plans on extending the simultaneous multi-frequency system to global baselines.

  • This paper describes an implementation of a unified ALU on multi-core GPGPU based on SIMT architecture. Our unified ALU can operate conditional branch instructions, data movement instructions, integer arithmetic instructions and floating-point arithmetic instructions. Since multi-core GPGPU contains a lot of ALU for parallel processing of various types, the main point of this paper is to design the minimum size ALU by unifying similar processing of each operations on circit level. All instrunctions were tested by making a test program. And we compare this results with results of CPU operations to verify our ALU. Our unified ALU's gate size is approximately 20,000 and the maximum operation frequency is 430MHz.

  • Single-unit probabilistic safety assessment (SUPSA) has complex Boolean logic equations for accident sequences. Multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment (MUPSA) model is developed by revising and combining SUPSA models in order to reflect plant state combinations (PSCs). These PSCs represent combinations of core damage and non-core damage states of nuclear power plants (NPPs). Since all these Boolean logic equations have complemented gates (not gates), it is not easy to generate exact Boolean solutions. Delete-term approximation method (DTAM) has been widely applied for generating approximate minimal cut sets (MCSs) from the complex Boolean logic equations with complemented gates. By applying DTAM, approximate conditional core damage probability (CCDP) has been calculated in SUPSA and MUPSA. It was found that CCDP calculated by DTAM was overestimated when complemented gates have non-rare events. Especially, the CCDP overestimation drastically increases if seismic SUPSA or MUPSA has complemented gates with many non-rare events. The objective of this study is to suggest a new quantification method named probability subtraction method (PSM) that replaces DTAM. The PSM calculates accurate CCDP even when SUPSA or MUPSA has complemented gates with many non-rare events. In this paper, the PSM is explained, and the accuracy of the PSM is validated by its applications to a few MUPSAs.

  • A multi-reference many-body perturbation theory (MRMBPT) method is critically tested in second order by comparing with the corresponding configuration interaction (CI) calculations. Excitation energies of the four-valence-electron states of transition metal atoms and ions are used for the comparison. The agreement between the second order MRMBPT and CI calculations is very reasonable, confirming the reliability of the second order MRMBPT method. The reliability of calculations with the present second order MRMBPT method was only been inferred empirically in the past since most results have been gauged by the agreement with experiment and/or with other MRMBPT calculations based upon different sets of orbitals and configuration spaces. The present MRMBPT method appears to be an efficient ab initio multi-reference method for the calculation of electron correlation effects in atoms and molecules, and it is shown how MRMBPT can be used to estimate core-core and core-valence correlation effects which are often omitted in CI calculations because too many configurations and correlating electrons are involved.

  • BICC protocol is a relay protocol adaptable to ATM and IP based core networks compared to ISUP protocol to TDM networks. Using BICC protocol, multi-rate bearer traffic such as voice and video can flow in the relay core networks. BICC protocol is standardized as WCDMA circuit switching networks in 3GPP Release 4. Thus KTF is now operating core networks using BICC protocol. In this paper, we describe the background and characteristics of BICC protocol. We also provide the status of KTF WCDMA core networks using BICC. To show the efficiency of BICC protocol an analytical simulation is given in which the results can be expected by intuitive observation.

  • This paper presents a high-speed intrusion detection process for multi-core video surveillance systems. The high-speed intrusion detection was designed to a parallel process. Based on the analysis of the conventional process, a parallel intrusion detection process was proposed so as to be accelerated by utilizing multiple processing cores in contemporary computing systems. The proposed process performs the intrusion detection in a per-frame parallel manner, considering the data dependency between frames. The proposed process was validated by implementing a multi-threaded intrusion detection program. For the system having eight processing cores, the detection speed of the proposed program is higher than that of the conventional one by up to 353.76% in terms of the frame rate.

  • In this part, an implicit time dependent solution is presented for the Boltzmann transport equation discretized by the analytic coarse mesh finite difference method (ACMFD) over the spatial domain as well as the simplified P3 (SP3) for the angular variable. In the first part of this work we proposed a SP3-ACMFD approach to solve the static eigenvalue equations which provide the initial conditions for temp dependent equations. Having solved the 3D multi-group SP3-ACMFD static equations, an implicit approach is resorted to ensure stability of time steps. An exponential behavior is assumed in transverse integrated equations to establish a relationship between flux moments and currents. Also, analytic integration is benefited for the time-dependent solution of precursor concentration equations. Finally, a multi-channel one-phase thermal hydraulic model is coupled to the proposed methodology. Transient equations are then solved at each step using the GMRES technique. To show the sufficiency of proposed transient SP3-ACMFD approximation for a full core analysis, a comparison is made using transport peers as the reference. To further demonstrate superiority, results are compared with a 3D multi-group transient diffusion solver developed as a byproduct of this work. Outcomes confirm that the idea can be considered as an economic interim approach which is superior to the diffusion approximation, and comparable with transport in results.

  • As era of multi-core processors has arrived, transactional memory has been considered as an effective method to achieve easy and fast multi-threaded programming. Various hardware transactional memory systems such as UTM, VTM, FastTM, LogTM, and LogTM-SE, have been introduced in order to implement high-performance multi-core processors. Especially, LogTM-SE has provided study performance with an efficient memory management policy and a practical thread scheduling method through conflict detection based on signatures. However, increasing number of cores on a processor imposes the hardware complexity for signature processing. This causes overall performance degradation due to the heavy workload on signature comparison. In this paper, we propose a new architecture of multiple signature comparison to improve conflict detection of signature based transactional memory systems.

  • In this study, three types of large scale multi-tasking machine tools together with core technologies involved have been developed and introduced; a multi-tasking machine tool for large scale marine engine crankshafts, a multi-tasking vertical lathe for windmill parts, and a large scale 5-axis machine tool of gantry type. Several special purpose devices has been necessarily developed for the purpose of handling and machining big and heavy workpieces accurately, such as PTD (Pin Turning Device) with revolving ring spindle for machining eccentric crankshaft pins, hydrostatic rotary table and steady rest for supporting and resting heavy workpieces, and 2-axis automatic swiveling head for high-quality free surface machining. Core technologies have been also developed and adopted on their detail design stage; 1) structural design optimization with FEM structural analysis, 2) theoretical hydrostatic analysis for the PTD and rotary table bearings, 3) box-in-box type cross-rail and octagonal ram design to secure machine rigidity and accuracy, 4) constant spindle rpm control against gravitational torque due to unbalanced workpiece.

  • Efficiency of Multi D.O.F spherical motor is one of the important performance indicators. So Through the reduction of eddy current loss on how to improve the efficiency were studied. Stator iron core's material with high permeability and resistivity of material using the eddy current loss was reduced. However, it was the disadvantages of production and economic. For these reasons, prevent eddy current loss of the iron core of multi D.O.F spherical motor as a viable alternative to motor using rotor with double-air gap.
