The binders introduced in Korea were originally designed to be used for Japonica-type varieties which have relatively long stem and are highly resistant to shattering. In order to use it for Tongil varieties which are short and easy to be shattered, mechanical modifications are necessary to reduce a grain loss incurred during binder operation. This study was intended to investigate analytically and experimentally the major sources of grain losses caused by three kinds of binders now introduced in Korea. Actual modification for each of three binders was done and experimentally compared to see if any improvement on grain loss was achieved. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows; 1. It was required that the power transmission of binder should have a shifting mechanism so that velocities of pick-up and traveling units could be changed independently as desired according to the Japonica-type and Tongil varieties. In other words, the desired velocity of traveling unit should be obtained by shifting the transmission and the velocity of pick-up unit should be selected by reaping clutch according to the variety independent of the velocity of traveling unit as shown in Fig. 6. 2. To reduce grain loss it was desired that the moving parts of the pick-up unit should have the lowest possible velocities in harvesting Tongil varieties, unless the reduction of the speed be hindered the conveyance of the material. Based on the study, it was concluded that the velocities of pick-up unit be reduced by about 35% of those of the existing units. 3. It was found that the lug at the upper rotating section of pick-up case gave a severe impact on the ears of rice to increase grain loss. The optimum design of pick-up case to protect the ears from the protruding part of the lug was recommended by the result of analysis of the trajectory of the end-point of lug at the position. 4. It was proved analytically and experimentally that pick-up unit at the lower-rotating part was the other important source of grain loss in pick-up and divider assembly. In order to reduce a grain loss incurred by lugs at their lower-rotating section, it was suggested to improve it by (1) widening the space between right and left lower-rotating section, (2) shortening the length of lugs, (3) enlargement of the angle between the pick-up case and ground-level, and (4) attaching guard to right and left dividers so that the rotating lug could not give a high impact to the paddy hill. 5. Pick-up and divider assembly of the original binder of three models studied was modified according to the suggestions that were given by the preliminary study. Field test showed that the modified binders were able to reduce grain losses by about 0.4-0.7 percentage points compared to those without modification.

The study was results obtained from the trial make of the hybrid GPS-electromagnetic(EM) compass which overcome shortcoming of GPS compass and EM compass. The results were summarized as follows: GPS compass detected the stable ship's heading at 0.1^{\circ}$ intervals with the turning angular velocity of less than 25^{\circ}$/sec in the experiment for the characteristics of turning angular velocity with stepmotor, but in case of over 25^{\circ}$/sec the compass did not detect it. On the contrary, the EM compass always indicated the ship's heading with no connection of the turning angular velocity, however the compass is low accuracy compared with GPS one owing to a compass error. The ship's headings by the hybrid GPS-EM compass were displayed at fixed point and moving by car; if the GPS compass work the headings were displayed by GPS compass, if not, the heading is provided stably by adding or subtracting of a compass error to the heading of EM compass. Also, each ship's heading was derived from not only the GPS compass but also the EM one by add or subtract of the compass errors, and then was worked covariance for the analogy. The results show that the ship's heading of two compasses has been verified the similarity to 95% confidence level.

NOx (nitrogen oxide) in the exhaust gas engines causes severe air pollution. NOx is produced under high-temperature combustion conditions. EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) is normally used to reduce the combustion temperature and NOx production. As the EGR ratio increases, the NOx level becomes low. On the other hand, an excessively high EGR ratio makes the combustion unstable resulting in other air pollution problems, such as unburned hydrocarbon and higher CO levels. In this study, the improvement of fuel droplets moving by the radiation of sonic waves was studied for the stable combustion using analytic and experimental methods. For the analytical study, the effects of the radiation of a sonic wave on the fuel droplet velocity were studied using Fluent software. The results showed that the small droplet velocity increased more under high-frequency sonic wave conditions, and the large droplet velocity increased more under low-frequency sonic wave conditions. For the experimental study, the combustion chamber was made to measure the combustion pressure under the sonic wave effect. The measured pressure was used to calculate the heat release rate in the combustion chamber. With the heat release rate data, the heat release rate increased during the initial combustion process under low-frequency sonic wave conditions.

Recently, as the number of facilities using chemicals is increasing, the amount of handling is rapidly increasing. However, chemical spills are occurring steadily, and if large quantities of chemicals are leaked in time, they are likely to cause major damage. These industrial complexes use information obtained from a number of sensors to detect and monitor leaking areas, and are used in industrial fields by applying existing fixed sensors to robots and drones. Therefore, it is necessary to propose a sensor placement method at the interface for rapid detection and response based on various leaking scenarios reflecting leaking conditions and environmental conditions of the chemical handling process. In this study, COMSOL was used to analyze the actual accident scenarios by applying the medium parameter to the case of chemical leaks. Based on the accident scenarios, the objective function is selected so that the velocity of each robot is calculated by attaching importance to each item of sensor detection probability, sensing time and sensing scenario number. We also confirmed the feasibility of this method of reliability analysis for unexpected leak accidents. Based on the above results, it is expected that it will be helpful to trace back the leakage source based on the concentration data of the portable sensor to be applied later.
It is widely known that pulsed magnetic field (PMF) is very useful tool to manipulate chemical and physiological processes in human body. The purpose of our study is to observe dynamics of rouleaux patterns of red blood cells (RBC) under PMF. The aggregation of RBCs or rouleaux formation is caused by fibrinogen in blood plasma. The maximum magnetic field intensity is 0.27 T and pulse time of 0.102 msec and pulse repetition rate was 1 Hz. PMF stimulus was applied to the palm of left hand for 5, 10, 15 and 20 min. Live blood analysis was used in vitro in order to quantitatively estimate the velocity of RBC exposed to PMF stimulus. The velocity of stacked-RBC of 10 minute PMF stimulus was increased up to $8{\times}10^{-4}m/sec$, but it decreased rapidly as the time passed. The results of present study have adduced that PMF stimulus on hand provide the improvement of RBC rouleaux formation, increase of RBC's moving velocity as well as low blood viscosity.

A uniform velocity field of crust can be obtained by cumulative multi-year GPS data. Then the shortening and sliding of drape zones between Chinese Continent Blocks can be researched through the velocity field and dynamics meaning is also analyzed. A model of movement and strain is created to extract displacing and rotating information of blocks in this paper. On the basis of it, the shortening vectors and sliding states of drape zones between blocks can be obtained by the model of level center of gravity moving velocity vectors between neighboring blocks. Some result show as follows. India plate jostles greatly toward north, so a complicated movement situation is formed for 14 sub-blocks. And self-deformations of inner tectosomes can be greatly reflected according to the characteristics of drape zones between tectosomes. The extrusion deformation exists between Himalaya and Qiangtang blocks. Its contraction ratio is about 20.1 $mm.a^{-1}$. However, it only is $mm.a^{-1}$ between Tarim and Zhungar. The deformation characteristics and contraction ratio of other drape zones are obviously different with the former. The movement characteristics of contraction, shear, dislocation, etc. are showed in these zones. The average contraction ratio is about 5.0 $mm.a^{-1}$. The whole trend in the west continent has a big movement toward north, and in the east continent has a small movement toward south or southeast. The strain of west continent is far bigger than that of east, and the strain of southwest is bigger than that of the southeast. It is whole showed that India plate jostles toward north-east and the south-north zone has cutting and absorbing phenomena. The total characteristics and present-day trends of deformation of inland drape zones are basically described by the sinistrorse dislocation in south-north zone and Arjin fracture, the sinistrorse shear between south china and north china, etc.
Deep Tunnel system is a large-scale urban flood control facility installed underground in order to reinforce the lack of drainage systems in developed cities. In a structure like a deep tunnel system, the undular bore generated in the downstream causes a problem in the hydraulic stability of the tunnel. In this study, to investigate the influence of the undular bore on the hydraulic stability at the "Shinwol rainwater storage and drainage system", under construction for the first time in the country, a hydraulic model experiment was conducted on various flooding inflow scenarios. As a result of the hydraulic model experiment carried out in this study, the undular bore generated downstream is trapped in the pipe while moving to upstream, pushes the compressed air. It is judged that overflow occurred by choking the vertical drop shaft in the process when this compressed air is being exhaust through the upstream vertical drop shaft and blocking flood inflow. In addition, the analysis of velocity of undular bore shows that the undular bore transfers energy, and at this time, the pressure rose in the pipe and the velocity increment occurred of the undular bore. Further studies are needed to predict the size and velocity of undular bore, which plays an important role in the hydraulic stability of the tunnel in the deep tunnel system.

This study is conducted to find out the effect of vibration on cure and compressive strength of lightweight Air Trapped Soil(ATS). If ATS is used next to a structure existed, the effect of vibration problems may be occurred, because there exist many sources of vibration such as pile driving, blasting and use of construction machinery. For example, if a road is expanded to reduce traffic congestion, it is expected that ATS's quality may be decreased due to vibration generated by cars moving on the road. Especially, because ATS has many air bubbles and needs a time for curing, the effect of vibration is more serious than we expected. So far, the effect of vibration on concrete has been conducted, but the study of ATS has not been conducted in detail. Therefore, for evaluating the effect of vibration on ATS during cure proceeds, unconfined compression tests are conducted on the samples prepared with different variables including vibration velocity, time when vibrated and mixing ratio. The results clearly show the effect of vibration on the characteristics of ATS.
We applied the partitioned waveform inversion to 2,026 event data recorded at 173 seismic stations from the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology Data Managing Center and the Ocean Hemisphere network Project to estimate S-wave velocity and radial anisotropy models beneath the Western Pacific. In the Philippine Sea plate, high-Vs anomalies reach deeper in the West Philippine basin than in the Parece-Vela basin. Low-Vs anomalies found at 80 km below the Parece-Vela basin extend deeper into the West Philippine Basin. This velocity contrast between the basins may be caused by differences in lithospheric age. Low-Vs anomalies are observed beneath the Caroline seamount chain and the Caroline plate. Overall positive radial anisotropy anomalies are observed in the Western Pacific, but negative radial anisotropy is found at > 220 km depth on the subducting plate along the Mariana trench and at ~50 km in the Parece-Vela basin. Positive radial anisotropy is found at > 200 km depth beneath the Caroline seamount chain, which may indicate the 'drag' between the plume and the moving Pacific plate. High-Vs anomalies are found at 40 ~ 180 km depth beneath the Ontong-Java plateau, which may indicate the presence of unusually thick lithosphere due to underplating of dehydrated plume material.
The aim of this study was to clarify the impacts of acquisition parameters on artifacts in four-dimensional computed tomography (4D CT) images, such as the partial volume effect (PVE), partial projection effect (PPE), and mis-matching of initial motion phases between adjacent beds (MMimph) in cine mode scanning. A thoracic phantom and two cylindrical phantoms (2 cm diameter and heights of 0.5 cm for No.1 and 10 cm for No.2) were scanned using 4D CT. For the thoracic phantom, acquisition was started automatically in the first scan with 5 sec and 8 sec of gantry rotation, thereby allowing a different phase at the initial projection of each bed. In the second scan, the initial projection at each bed was manually synchronized with the inhalation phase to minimize the MMimph. The third scan was intentionally un-synchronized with the inhalation phase. In the cylindrical phantom scan, one bed (2 cm) and three beds (6 cm) were used for 2 and 6 sec motion periods. Measured target volume to true volume ratios (MsTrueV) were computed. The relationships among MMimph, MsTrueV, and velocity were investigated. In the thoracic phantom, shorter gantry rotation provided more precise volume and was highly correlated with velocity when MMimph was minimal. MMimph reduced the correlation. For moving cylinder No. 1, MsTrueV was correlated with velocity, but the larger MMimph for 2 sec of motion removed the correlation. The volume of No. 2 was similar to the static volume due to the small PVE, PPE, and MMimph. Smaller target velocity and faster gantry rotation resulted in a more accurate volume description. The MMimph was the main parameter weakening the correlation between MsTrueV and velocity. Without reducing the MMimph, controlling target velocity and gantry rotation will not guarantee accurate image presentation given current 4D CT technology.
