Analysis of tail flip of the target prawn at the time of penetrating mesh in water flow by tank experiments

  • The tail flip of the decapod shrimp is a main feature in escaping behavior from the mesh of the codend in the trawl. The characteristics of tail flip in target prawn was observed and analyzed in a water tunnel in respect of flow condition and mesh penetration by a high speed video camera (500 fps). The tail bending angle or bending time in static water was significantly different than in flow water (0.7 m/s) and resultantly the angular velocity in static water was significantly higher than in flow water when carapace was fixed condition. When escaping through vertical traverse net panel in water flow the relative moving angle and relative passing angle to flow direction during tail flip, it significantly decreases the number of shrimps escaping than the case of blocking shrimp. The bending angles of tail flip between net blocking and passing through mesh were not significantly different while the bending time of shrimp passing through mesh was significantly longer than when shrimp blocking on the net. Accordingly the angular velocity of passing through mesh was significantly slower than blocking on the net although the angular velocity of the tail flip was not significantly related with carapace length. The main feature of tail flip for mesh penetration was considered as smaller diagonal direction as moving and passing angle in relation to net panel as right angle to flow direction rather than the angular velocity of tail flip.

A Study on Flow Rate Estimation Using Pressure Fluctuation Signals in Pipe (배관내 압력변동 신호를 이용한 유량 추정 방법 연구)

  • In nuclear power plants, the flow rate information is a major indicator of the performance of rotating equipment such as pumps, and is a very important one required for facility operation and maintenance. To measure a flow rate, various types of methods have been developed and used. Among them, the differential pressure type using orifice and the direct doppler type using ultrasonic waves are the most commonly used. However, these flow rate measurement methods have limitations in installation, conditions and status of the measuring part, etc. To solve this problem, we have studied a new technique for measuring flow rate from scratch. In this paper, we have devised a technique to estimate the flow rate using an average moving velocity of large-scale eddy in turbulence that occurs in the piping flow field. The velocity of the large-scale eddy can be measured using the pressure fluctuation signals on the inner surface of the pipe. To estimate the flow rate, at first a cross-correlation function is applied to the two pressure fluctuation signals located at different positions in the down stream for calculating the time delay between the moving eddies. In order to validate the proposed flow rate estimation method, CFD analyses for the internal turbulence flow in pipe are conducted with a fixed flow condition, where the pressure fluctuation signals on the pipe inner surface are simulated. And then the average flow velocity of the large scale eddy is to be estimated. The estimated flow velocity is turned out to be similar to the fixed (known) flow rate.

  • this paper, two-dimensional behaviors of the brine lumps moving along the inclined boundaries are investigated experimentally and theoretically. It was investigated these factors in the brine lumps which are behaviors. shape. length change. height change. and moving velocity change. The results were compared the above factors with thermal theory. The shape of the brine lumps is well apporximated by a half-ellipse. The shape of the brine lumps was similar with the slope thermal and the moving characteristics were found to reappear with the turbulent thermal theory.

  • This paper presents the computational method for analyzing the compressible flow fields in a high voltage gas circuit breaker. There are many difficult problems in analyzing the gas flow in GCB due to complex geometry, moving boundary, shock wave and so on. In particular, the distortion problem of the grid due to the movement of moving parts can be worked out by the fixed grid technique. Numerical simulations are based on a fully implicit finite volume method of the compressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations to obtain the pressure, density, and velocity through the entire interruption process. The presented method is applied to the real circuit breaker model and the pressure in front of the piston is good agreement with the experimental one.

  • This paper describes the algorithm which extracts moving vehicles from sequential images and tracks those vehicles using Kalman filter. This work is composed of a motion segmentation stage which extracts moving objects from sequential images and gets features of objects, and a motion estimation stage which estimates the position and the motion of moving objects using Kalman filter. In the motion estimation stage, applying to affine motion model we divided the Kalman filter into position filter and velocity filter to employ linear Kalman filter. Multi-target tracking requires a data association component that decides which measurement to use for updating the state of which object. We use pattern recognition method to solve this problem.

  • The integrated environment for the fuzzy logic controller with the acceleration converter to improve the dynamic characteristic of a one-axis moving table is proposed in the paper. The two inputs of the fuzzy logic controller are position error and velocity. The two inputs of the acceleration converter used to produce the acceleration input for the one-axis moving table are actual and setting rotational speeds. The proposed controller is implemented on a personal computer by using MATLAB and Visual Basic for a real time control via a motion control board.   • The problem of the transient interaction of a plane acoustic shock wave which has an infinitely steep wave front with a cylindrical or spherical elastic shell has been studied analytically from early fifties based on the integral transform and series solution techniques. Huang adopted an inverse Laplace transform, and used a finite number of terms of the infinite series expansion of the equations for the shells. In the 1990s, the results have been used by many authors for validation of computer codes. The object of this paper is to discuss the interaction between a moving source and submerged spherical shells. Since the center of source is moving the first contact location between the waves and shell changes depending on the source velocity and distance. These are considered in the analysis. Furthermore, constant source strength and decreasing strength are considered in the analysis. Radial velocities at several locations on the structure are obtained and the results are discussed.

  • In this paper the dynamic behavior of a viscoelastic Timoshenko beam subjected to a concentrated moving load are studied analytically and numerically. The viscoelastic properties of the beam obey the linear standard model in shear and incompressible in bulk. The governing equation for Timoshenko beam theory is obtained in viscoelastic form using the correspondence principle. The analytical solution is based on the Fourier series and the numerical solution is performed with finite element method. The effects of the material properties and the load velocity are investigated on the responses by numerical and analytical methods. In addition, the results are compared with the Euler beam results.

  • This paper proposes an optimal design method for the weight and cost of a moving magnet typer linear DC motor (MM-LDM). The optimal design condition such as type and size of MM-LDM were determined by the trinary search algorithm after adjusting a standard function and its related parameters. In order to verigy results of the optimal design by the computer simulation, the designed values such as a thrust, a current, a velocity, and etc. of the fabricated MM-LDM were measured. And the measurement results are in good agreement with the designed ones.

  • In this paper, free vibration finite element analysis of axially moving laminated composite beams subjected to axial tension is studied. It is assumed that the beam has a constant axial velocity and is subject to uniform axial tension. The analysis is based on higher-order theories that have been presented by Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF). In the CUF technique, the three dimensional (3D) displacement fields are expressed as the approximation of the arbitrary order of the displacement unknowns over the cross-section. This higher-order expansion is considered in equivalent single layer (ESL) model. The governing equations of motion are obtained via Hamilton's principle. Finally, several numerical examples are presented and the effect of the ply-angle, travelling speed and axial tension on the natural frequencies and beam stability are demonstrated.
