A novel method based on Surf points is proposed to detect and lock-track single ground target in aerial videos. Videos captured by moving cameras contain complex motions, which bring difficulty in moving object detection. Our approach contains three parts: moving target template detection, search area estimation and target tracking. Global motion estimation and compensation are first made by grids-sampling Surf points selecting and matching. And then, the single ground target is detected by joint spatial-temporal information processing. The temporal process is made by calculating difference between compensated reference and current image and the spatial process is implementing morphological operations and adaptive binarization. The second part improves KALMAN filter with surf points scale information to predict target position and search area adaptively. Lastly, the local Surf points of target template are matched in this search region to realize target tracking. The long-term tracking is updated following target scaling, occlusion and large deformation. Experimental results show that the algorithm can correctly detect small moving target in dynamic scenes with complex motions. It is robust to vehicle dithering and target scale changing, rotation, especially partial occlusion or temporal complete occlusion. Comparing with traditional algorithms, our method enables real time operation, processing $520{\times}390$ frames at around 15fps.
A new visual tracking scheme is proposed for a mobile robot that tracks a moving object in 3D space in real time. Visual tracking is to control a mobile robot to keep a moving target at the center of input image at all time. We made it possible by simplifying the relationship between the 2D image frame captured by a single camera and the 3D workspace frame. To precisely calculate the input vector (orientation and distance) of the mobile robot, the speed vector of the target is determined by eliminating the speed component caused by the camera motion from the speed vector appeared in the input image. The problem of temporary disappearance of the target form the input image is solved by selecting the searching area based on the linear prediction of target motion. The experimental results have shown that the proposed scheme can make a mobile robot successfully follow a moving target in real time.
In this paper, a new stereo 3D moving-target tracking system using the MSE (mean square error) and BPEJTC (binary phase extraction joint transform correlator) algorithms is proposed. A moving target is extracted from the sequential input stereo image by applying a region-based MSE algorithm following which, the location coordinates of a moving target in each frame are obtained through correlation between the extracted target image and the input stereo image by using the BPEJTC algorithm. Through several experiments performed with 20 frames of the stereo image pair with $640{\times}480$ pixels, we confirmed that the proposed system is capable of tracking a moving target at a relatively low error ratio of 1.29 % on average at real time.
In this paper, we proposed realtime visual tracking system of moving object for 2D target using extended Kalman Filter Algorithm. A targeting marker are recongnized in each image frame and positions of targer object in each frame from a CCD camera while te targeting marker is attached to the tip of the SCARA robot hand. After the detection of a target coming into any position of the field-of-view, the target is tracked and always made to be located at the center of target window. Then, we can track the moving object which moved in inter-frames. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the Kalman filter algorithm for realtime tracking and estimated state value of filter, predicting the position of moving object to minimize an image processing area, and by reducing the effect by quantization noise of image
In this paper, a moving target tracking using a binocular vision for an omni-directional mobile robot is addressed. In the binocular vision, three dimensional information on the target is extracted by vision processes including calibration, image correspondence, and 3D reconstruction. The robot controller is constituted with SPI(serial peripheral interface) to communicate effectively between robot master controller and wheel controllers.
In this paper, the visual tracking system for arbitrary shaped moving object is proposed. The established tracking system can be divided into model based method that needs previous model for target object and image based method that uses image feature. In the model based method, the reliable tracking is possible, but simplification of the shape is necessary and the application is restricted to definite target mod el. On the other hand, in the image based method, the process speed can be increased, but the shape information is lost and the tracking system is sensitive to image noise. The proposed tracking system is composed of the extraction process that recognizes the existence of moving object and tracking process that extracts dynamic characteristics and shape information of the target objects. Specially, active contour model is used to effectively track the object that is undergoing shape change. In initializatio n process of the contour model, the semi-automatic operation can be avoided and the convergence speed of the contour can be increased by the proposed effective initialization method. Also, for the efficient solution of the correspondence problem in multiple objects tracking, the variation function that uses the variation of position structure in image frame and snake energy level is proposed. In order to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed tracking system, real time tracking experiment for multiple moving objects is implemented.
In this paper, a new 3D object tracking system using the disparity motion vector (DMV) is presented. In the proposed method, the time-sequential disparity maps are extracted from the sequence of the stereo input image pairs and these disparity maps are used to sequentially estimate the DMV defined as a disparity difference between two consecutive disparity maps Similarly to motion vectors in the conventional video signals, the DMV provides us with motion information of a moving target by showing a relatively large change in the disparity values in the target areas. Accordingly, this DMV helps detect the target area and its location coordinates. Based on these location data of a moving target, the pan/tilt embedded in the stereo camera system can be controlled and consequently achieve real-time stereo tracking of a moving target. From the results of experiments with 9 frames of the stereo image pairs having 256x256 pixels, it is shown that the proposed DMV-based stereo object tracking system can track the moving target with a relatively low error ratio of about 3.05 % on average.
In this paper, an estimation of person height and 3D location of a moving person by using the pan/tilt-embedded stereo tracking system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, face coordinates of a target person is detected from the sequential input stereo image pairs by using the YCbCr color model and phase-type correlation methods and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the stereo tracking system, distance to the target from the stereo camera and 3-dimensional location information of a target person are extracted. Basing on these extracted data the pan/tilt system embedded in the stereo camera is controlled to adaptively track a moving person and as a result, moving trajectory of a target person can be obtained. From some experiments using 780 frames of the sequential stereo image pairs, it is analyzed that standard deviation of the position displacement of the target in the horizontal and vertical directions after tracking is kept to be very low value of 1.5, 0.42 for 780 frames on average, and error ratio between the measured and computed 3D coordinate values of the target is also kept to be very low value of 0.5% on average. These good experimental results suggest a possibility of implementation of a new stereo target tracking system having a high degree of accuracy and a very fast response time with this proposed algorithm.
In this letter, we propose a moving-target tracking algorithm based on a particle filter that uses the time difference of arrival (TDOA)/frequency difference of arrival (FDOA) measurements acquired by distributed sensors. It is shown that the performance of the proposed algorithm, based on the particle filter, outperforms the one based on the extended Kalman filter. The use of both the TDOA and FDOA measurements is shown to be effective in the moving-target tracking. It is proven that the particle filter deals with the nonlinear nature of the movingtarget tracking problem successfully.
This paper presents a tracking system using images captured from a camera on a moving platform. A camera on an unmanned flying vehicle generally moves and shakes due to external factors such as wind and the ego-motion of the machine itself. This makes it difficult to track a target properly, and sometimes the target cannot be kept in view of the camera. To deal with this problem, we propose a new system for stable tracking of a target under such conditions. The tracking system includes target tracking and 3-axis camera motion compensation. At the same time, we consider the simulation of the motion of flying vehicles for efficient and safe testing. With 3-axis motion compensation, our experimental results show that robustness and stability are improved.
