  • The purpose of a tracking control system is to track a moving target and to find the exact information of the target. If the platform of the tracking control system is equipped on a moving vehicle such as a ship, the tracking control system will treat even the additional platform motion. In order to avoid the complexity comprising the tracking control system, a process to treat the platform motion, named stabilizing system, must be separated from the tracking control system. In this paper, a method to comprise an attitude control system for the platform stabilization is proposed using an adaptive fuzzy control which is applicable to the system with structural and parametric uncertainty. The suggested adaptive fuzzy control algorithm is the 2nd/1st-type indirect adaptive fuzzy control algorithm using the advantages of 1st-type and 2nd-type indirect adaptive fuzzy control algorithm. Several experiments using the implemented stabilizing system are executed for verifying the effectiveness of the suggested method.

  • A four degrees of freedom (dof) motion platform for bicycle simulator is developed. The motion platform, capable of the vertical linear and three angular motions, is designed based on analysis of the typical motion characteristics revealed by the existing six dof bicycle simulator. The platform essentially consists of two parts: the three dof parallel manipulator, consisting of a moving platform, a fixed base and three actuators, and the turntable to generate the yaw motion. The nonlinear kinematics and dynamics of the three dof parallel manipulator with multiple closed loop chains are analyzed for tracking control of the motion platform. The tracking performances of the three control schemes are experimentally compared: the computed torque method (CTM), the sliding mode control (SMC) and the PD control. The CTM and SMC, incorporated with the system dynamics model, are found to be equally better in performance than the PD controller, irrespective of the presence of external disturbance.

  • A high power stewart platform is designed and manufactured to simulate the 6 degrees of freedom motion of moving vehicle. This paper describes the design of such a motion system including kinematic and kinetic analysis, real time servo control mechanical and hydraulic system configuration, and techniques of regeneration of test records. Discussions are also presented for an algorithm called remote parameter control, which has been developed to compensate the dynamic delay of the electro-hydraulic servo actuators and the nonlinearities of stewart platform.

  • This paper presents a new formulation approach to reduce computational burden of the direct kinematics of 6-dof haptic devices with three sets of a parallel-serial linkage. Their direct kinematics has been formulated through employing the Denavit-Hartenberg notation, which results in complicated formulation procedures and heavy computational burden. For reducing these problems, this paper reconfigures the haptic devices into an equivalent kinematic model of the 3-6 Stewart-Gough Platform that has three connecting joints on the moving platform. Moreover, the direct kinematics of the 3-6 Platform can be effectively formulated by using the proposed Tetrahedron Approach.

  • In a four-wheel independent drive platform, four wheels and motors are connected directly, and the rotation of the motors generates the power of the platform. It uses a skid steering system that steers based on the difference in rotational power between wheel motors. The platform can control the speed of each wheel individually and has excellent mobility on dirt roads. However, the difficulty of the straight-running is caused due to torque distribution variation in each wheel's motor, and the direction of rotation of the wheel, and moving direction of the platform, and the difference of the platform's target direction. This paper describes an algorithm to detect the slip generated on each wheel when a four-wheel independent drive platform is traveling in a harsh environment. When the slip is detected, a compensation control algorithm is activated to compensate the torque of the motor mounted on the platform to improve the trajectory tracking performance of the platform. The four-wheel independent drive platform developed for this study verified the algorithm. The wheel slip detection and the compensation control algorithm of the platform are expected to improve the stability of trajectory tracking.

  • In the present study, the wind pressure transients on platform screen door in side platforms caused by passing trains have been investigated numerically. The transient compressible 3-D full Navier-Stokes solution is used with actual operational condition of subway train by adopting the moving mesh technique considering the train movement. To achieve more accurate analysis, the entrance and exit tunnel connecting the stations are included in a computational domain with modeling the detailed shape of the train. Numerical analyses are conducted on five operational conditions which include the variation of the train speed, case with or without the train stopped in the other track, and case for two trains passing each other inside the station. The results show that pressure load on platform screen door is maximized when the two trains are passing each other. It is also seen from the computational results that the maximum pressure variation for the cases considered in the present study is found to be satisfactory to various foreign standards.

  • This paper present a novel 6-axis robotic base platform with force/moment sensing. The robotic base platform is made up of six loadcells connecting the moving plate to the fixed plate by spherical joints at the both ends of loadcells. The statics relation is derived, the robotic base platform prototype and the loadcell measurement system are developed. The force/moment calibrations in joint and Cartesian spaces are performed. The algorithm to detect external force applied at a working robot is derived, and using a 6-DOF robot mounted on the robotic base platform, force/moment measurement experiments have been performed.

  • This paper presents a tracking system using images captured from a camera on a moving platform. A camera on an unmanned flying vehicle generally moves and shakes due to external factors such as wind and the ego-motion of the machine itself. This makes it difficult to track a target properly, and sometimes the target cannot be kept in view of the camera. To deal with this problem, we propose a new system for stable tracking of a target under such conditions. The tracking system includes target tracking and 3-axis camera motion compensation. At the same time, we consider the simulation of the motion of flying vehicles for efficient and safe testing. With 3-axis motion compensation, our experimental results show that robustness and stability are improved.

  • Jeha Ryu Department of Mechatronics, Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology This paper presents an application of a robust adaptive control strategy to HexaSlide type six degrees-of-freedom parallel manipulators. The HexaSlide type parallel manipulators are characterized as an architecture with constant link lengths that are attached to moving sliders on the ground and to a mobile platform. The proposed control law is developed based on a simplified second order system dynamic equation in joint space with uncertain mass, damper, spring, and Coulomb friction terms. These uncertain parameters are updated by an adaptation law that is derived by Lyapunov stability theorem. A robust adaptive control law by using the boundary layer is designed for the purpose of compensating for the neglected dynamic effects of the mobile platform and the six moving links that are modeled as a disturbance term. Experimental results show good and fast tracking performance.
