  • Development of the linear motors is recently required to control a high-speed and high-resolution in the high-integrated and speed process industry. This paper presents vibration analyses as well as measurement standards of the newly developed linear motors through analyzing the vibration characteristics of the advanced products. Vibration experiments are conducted for identifying vibration level during operation. They are also included in the modal test to analyze dynamic characteristics. Analytic data using Finite Element Method (FEM) are compared with the results of the modal. The FEM and experiments make it possible to understand these characteristics. Further, through computer simulation for the behavior of moving part to be vibration source, the best acceleration pattern of moving part movement can be verified to achieve effective moving part positioning and reduce the vibration due to moving part movement.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate nonlinear dynamic responses of functionally graded composite beam resting on the nonlinear viscoelastic foundation subjected to moving mass with temperature rising. The non-linear strain-displacement relationship is considered in the finite strain theory and the governing nonlinear dynamic equation is obtained by using the Hamilton's principle. The Galerkin's decomposition technique is utilized to discretize the governing nonlinear partial differential equation to nonlinear ordinary differential equation and then the governing equation is solved by using of multiple time scale method. The influences of temperature rising, material distribution parameter, nonlinear viscoelastic foundation parameters, magnitude and velocity of the moving mass on the nonlinear dynamic responses are investigated. Also, the buckling temperatures of the functionally graded beams based on the finite strain theory are obtained.

  • In this paper. dynamic behavior of the cracked beam under a moving mass is presented using the finite element method (FEM). Model accuracy is improved with the following consideration: (1) FE model with Timoshenko beam element (2) Additional flexibility matrix due to crack presence (3) Interaction forces between the moving mass and supported beam. The Timoshenko bean model with a two-node finite element is constructed based on Guyan condensation that leads to the results of classical formulations. but in a simple and systematic manner. The cracked section is represented by local flexibility matrix connecting two unchanged beam segments and the crack as modeled a massless rotational spring. The inertia force due to the moving mass is also involved with gravity force equivalent to a moving load. The numerical tests for various mass levels. crack sizes. locations and boundary conditions were performed.

  • A Lagrangian approach based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to simulate large and/or sharp deformations and fragmentations of interfaces, including free surfaces, through tracing each particle with physical quantities. According to the concept of the particle-based CFD method, it is possible to apply it to both fluid particles and solid particles such as sand, gravel, and rock. However, the presence of more than two different phases in the same domain can make it complicated to calculate the interaction between different phases. In order to solve multiphase problems, particle interaction models for multiphase problems, including surface tension, buoyancy-correction, and interface boundary condition models, were newly adopted into the moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. The newly developed MPS method was used to simulate a typical validation problem involving dam breaking. Because the soil and other particles, excluding the water, may have different viscosities, various viscosity coefficients were applied in the simulations for validation. The newly developed and validated MPS method was used to simulate the mobile beds induced by broken dam flows. The effects of the viscosity on soil particles were also investigated.

  • In this paper a dynamic behavior of a simply supported cracked pipe conveying fluid with the moving mass is presented. Based on the Timoshenko beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. And the crack is assumed to be in th first mode of fracture. As the depth of the crack and velocity of fluid are increased the mid-span deflection of the pipe conveying fluid with the moving mass is increased. As depth of the crack is increased, the effect of the velocity of the fluid on the mid-span deflection appears more greatly.

  • Preventing or reducing the damage impact of lateral soil movements on piled foundations is highly dependent on understanding the behavior of passive piles. For this reason, a detailed experimental study is carried out, aimed to examine the influence of soil density, the depth of moving layer and pile spacing on the behavior of a 2×2 free-standing pile group subjected to a uniform profile of lateral soil movement. Results from 8 model tests comprise bending moment, shear force, soil reaction and deformations measured along the pile shaft using strain gauges and others probing tools were performed. It is found that soil density and the depth of moving layer have an opposite impact regarding the ultimate response of piles. A pile group embedded in dense sand requires less soil displacement to reach the ultimate soil reaction compared to those embedded in medium and loose sands. On the other hand, the larger the moving depth, the larger amount of lateral soil movement needs to develop the pile group its ultimate deformations. Furthermore, the group factor and the effect of pile spacing were highly related to the soil-structure interaction resulted from the transferring process of forces between pile rows with the existing of the rigid pile cap.

  • The effect of the steel ratio on the behavior of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) under moving wheel loads and environmental loads were investigated in this study. The CRCP sections having different steel ratios of 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8% were considered: (1) to evaluate the load transfer efficiency (LTE) at transverse cracks; (2) to investigate strains in CRCP when the system is subjected to moving vehicle loads; (3) and to investigate the time histories of the crack spacing variations. The LTEs were obtained by conducting the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) tests. The strains in the concrete slab and the bond braker layer under moving vehicle loads were obtained using embedded strain gages. The results of this study show that the LTEs at transverse cracks are very high and not affected by the steel ratio. The strains in CRCP under vehicle loads become smaller as the vehicle speed increases or as the wandering distance increases; however, the strains are not clearly affected by the steel ratio. However, the changes in the crack spacings are affected by the steel ratio.

  • The alignment of the rollers carrying the web is found to be one of important factors to the lateral behavior of the moving web and to the quality of the final web products. But, the perfect alignment of the rollers is not always possible and the web itself can be cambered. Thus the control of lateral behavior of the moving web is critical in the most of web handling systems. The web guiding system that adjusts the angle of the alignment between two adjacent rollers is commonly used in industry. But, in this paper a new web guiding system is proposed by using the lateral dynamics of the moving web induced by a tilted roller in normal direction of a web. The computer simulation study was carried out to verify the steering performance of the suggested guiding system. Computer simulation study shows that the performance of the new guiding mechanism is better than that of an existing guiding mechanism.

  • Suspended materials during maritime construction works may cause surrounding environmental changes Therefore, it is important to know the behavior of the muddy water lumps caused by dropping soil in coastal areas. Two-dimensional behaviors of the muddy water moving along the inclined boundaries are investigated experimentally, which are the change of height, length, and moving velocity, the properties of movement at the head of muddy water, the coefficient of entrainment and shape, and the accumulation shape. The shape of the muddy water lumps was similar with the slope thermal. Therefore, the moving characteristics were found to be described using turbulence theory.
