In this dissertation, experimental research was carried out to study the hysteretic behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete beam-column joints designed by high performance techniques, such as application of high-strength concrete, reducing of joint regions damage, moving of beam plastic hinge. Specimens(HJAI, HJCI), designed by the development of earthquake-resistant performance, moving of beam plastic hinge, and new design approach, were attained the moving of beam plastic hinge and developed significantly earthquake-resistant performance of such joints.
An iterative modal analysis approach is developed to determine the effect of transverse open cracks on the dynamic behavior of simply supported pipe conveying fluid subject to the moving mass. The equation of motion Is derived by using Lagrange’s equation. The influences of the velocity of moving mass and the velocity of fluid flow and a crack have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported pipe system by numerical method. The presence of crack results In higher deflections of pipe. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. Totally. as the velocity of fluid flow and the crack severity are increased, the mid-span deflection of simply supported pipe conveying fluid Is Increased. The time which produce the maximum dynamic deflection of the simply supported pipe Is delayed according to the increment of the crack severity.

There are nowadays strong demands for intelligent surveillance systems, which can infer or understand more complex behavior. The application of crowd density estimation methods could lead to a better understanding of crowd behavior, improved design of the built environment, and increased pedestrian safety. In this paper, we propose a new crowd density estimation method, which aims at estimating not only a moving crowd, but also a stationary crowd, using images captured from surveillance cameras situated in various public locations. The crowd density of the moving people is measured, based on the moving area during a specified time period. The moving area is defined as the area where the magnitude of the accumulated optical flow exceeds a predefined threshold. In contrast, the stationary crowd density is estimated from the coarseness of textures, under the assumption that each person can be regarded as a textural unit. A multilayer neural network is designed, to classify crowd density levels into 5 classes. Finally, the proposed method is experimented with PETS 2009 and the platform of Gangnam subway station image sequences.
The design requirement for ground mounted sign structures are fairly well defined in the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaries, and Traffic Signals and consists of applying an equivalent pseudo-dynamic loading to account for the dynamic effects of wind loads and ignores the dynamic effect due to moving vehicle loads. This design approach, however, should not be applied to the design of bridge mounted sign structures because ignoring the dynamic effects of the moving vehicle loads may produce non-conservative results, since the stiffness of the bridge structure can greatly influence the behavior. Not enough information is available in the literatures which provide guide lines to include the influence of moving vehicles in the design of the bridge mounted sign structures. This paper describes a theoretical methodology, Bridge-Vehicle Interaction Element, which can be utilized to account for the dynamic effect of moving vehicles. A case study is also included where this methodology was successfully applied. It was concluded that the bridge-vehicle interaction finite element developed can provide a more accurate representation of the behavior of bridge mounted sign structures. The result of these analysis enabled development of simple and effective retrofitting scheme for the existing support system of bridge-mounted-structure.
The objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic behavior of elastic beams subjected to moving loads. Although analytical methods are available, they have limitations with respect to complicated structures. The use of computer technology in recent years is an effective way to solve the problem; thus using the latest technology this study establishes a finite-element solution procedure to investigate dynamic behaviors of a typical elastic beam having a set of constant geometric properties and various span lengths. Both the dead load of the beam and traffic load are applied in which the traffic load is considered a concentrated moving force with various traveling passage speeds on the beam. Dynamic behaviors including deflection, shear, and bending moment due to moving loads are obtained by both analytical and finite element methods; for simple structures, they have an excellent agreement. The numerical results show that based on analytical methods the fundamental mode is good enough to estimate the dynamic deflection along the beam, but is not sufficient to simulate the total response of the shear force or the bending moment. The linear dynamic behavior of the elastic beams subjected to multiple exciting loads can easily be found by linear superposition, and the geometric nonlinear results caused by large deformation and axial force of the beam are always underestimated with only a few exceptions which are indicated. In order to make the results useful, they have been nondimensionalized and presented in graphical form.
The purpose of this study is to identify U.S. Baby Boomers' intention to move and their reasons for moving after retirement, and to examine the associations between their socio-demographic characteristics and housing characteristics, and their reasons for moving after retirement factors. A total of 403 usable data were collected through an online survey using a self-administrated questionnaire. For data analyses, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and ANOVA were used. Almost 30% of the total respondents considered moving and 15% were strongly agreed to move after their retirement. The most frequently mentioned reasons for moving after retirement were 'a place with good weather', 'being close to leisure activities', and 'a change or decline of my current neighborhood'. Four factors of reasons for moving after retirement (quality of residential environment, need assistant, proximity to activities, and proximity to family/friends) were identified. Age, marital status, number of household, housing type, homeownership, length of residence, and number of bedroom were significantly associated with the four factors of reasons for moving. The results of this study provide a better understanding to U.S. Baby Boomers' housing behavior after retirement which is 10 years faster than Korea, and suggest insights of housing plan for Korean older adults.
The Extradosed PSC bridge is one of the best alternates which not only covers the longer span than PSC box girder and also performs the role of landmark facility with much cheaper cost than cable stayed bridge. Since the cable-stayed long span bridge is more flexible than general medium span bridges and railway bridges can be experienced resonance phenomenon by repeated equidistant axle loading of the train, it is inevitable to consider the dynamic behavior on impact, deflection and so on. In the present study, the dynamic behavior of an Extradosed PSC railway bridge subjected to moving train forces is analyzed. As well as trains which operate in conventional railway tines, KTX train is also considered. For the estimation of dynamic performances of the Extradosed PSC bridge, vertical deflection, accelerations of the slab, end rotation of the girder and impact on pylons and cables are discussed.
In this paper, we propose an intelligent method to surveil moving objects and to judge an unusual-behavior by using network cameras. To surveil moving objects, the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorithm is used to characterize the feature information of objects. To judge unusual-behaviors, the virtual human skeleton is used to extract the feature points of a human in input images. In this procedure, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) improves the accuracy of the feature vector and the fuzzy classifier provides the judgement principle of unusual-behaviors. Finally, the experiment results show the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed method.
Transient aerodynamic response of an airfoil to a moving plane-flap is numerically investigated using two-dimensional Euler equations with conservative Chimera grid method. A body moving relative to a stationary grid is treated by an overset grid bounded by a 'dynamic domain-dividing line' the concept of which is developed in this study. A conservative Chimera grid method with a dynamic domain-dividing line technique is applied and validated by solving the flowfield around circular cylinder moving supersonic speed. The unsteady and transient characteristics of the flow solver is also examined by computations of a oscillating airfoil and a ramp pitching airfoil respectively. The transient aerodynamic behavior of an airfoil with a moving plane-flap is analyzed for various flow conditions such as deflecting rate of flap and free stream Mach number.
