This paper indicates that the use of Euler angles lacks in its consistency and exactness of analysis when it was applied to incorporate the rotational equation of motion for rotor systems by previous researcher. Kinetic energy and angular velocity are different from case to case depending on the way of choosing Euler angles and thus only the linear system has been investigated even though the rotor system has a very nonlinear behavior. A new methodology is applied by using both spherical coordinate and quaternion in the rotor rotation to overcome weaknesses of Euler angles and shows its superiority It is found through numerical examples that the use of quaternion will be a more useful and valid tool to derive the numerical model of the rotor system.
Bridge behavior under passing traffic loads has been studied for the past 50 years. This paper presents how to model congestion on bridges and how the maximum dynamic stress of bridges change during the passing of moving vehicles. Most current research is based on mid-span dynamic effects due to traffic load and most bridge codes define a factor called the dynamic load allowance (DLA), which is applied to the maximum static moment under static loading. This paper presents an algorithm to solve the governing equation of the bridge as well as the equations of motions of two real European trucks with different speeds, simultaneously. It will be shown, considering congestion in eight case studies, the maximum dynamic stress and how far from the mid-span it occurs during the passing of one or two trucks with different speeds. The congestion effect on the maximum dynamic stress of bridges can make a significant difference in the magnitude. By finite difference method, it will be shown that where vehicle speeds are considerably higher, for example in the case of railway bridges which have more than one railway line or in the case of multiple lane highway bridges where congestion is probable, current designing codes may predict dynamic stresses lower than actual stresses; therefore, the consequences of a full length analysis must be used to design safe bridges.

Physical importance of cutting temperatures has long been recognized. Cutting temperatures have strongly influenced both the tool life and the metallurgical state of machined surfaces. Temperatures in drilling processes are particularly important, because chips remain in contact with the tool for a relatively long time in a hole. Tool temperatures tend to be higher in drilling processes than in other in machining processes. This paper concerns with modeling of thermal behaviors in drilling processes as well as estimation of the cutting temperature distribution based on remote temperature measurements. One- and two-dimensional estimation problems are proposed to analyze drilling temperatures. The proposed thermal models are compared with solutions of finite element methods. Observer algorithms are developed to solve inverse heat conduction problems. In order to apply the estimation of cutting temperatures, approximation methods are proposed by using the solution of the finite element method. In two-dimensional analysis, a moving heat source according to feedrate of the drilling process is regarded as a fixed heat source with respect to the drilling location. Simulation results confirm the application of the proposed methods.

A moving mass on a skewed linear guideway model to analyze the friction-induced stick-slip behavior of ball-screw-driven slides is proposed. To describe the friction force, a friction coefficient function is modelled as a third-order polynomial of the relative velocity between the slide mass and a guideway. A nonlinear differential equation of motion is derived and an approximate solution is obtained using a perturbation method for the amplitudes and base frequencies of both pure-slip and stick-slip oscillations. The results are presented with time responses, phase plots, and amplitude plots, which are compared adequately with those obtained by Runge Kutta 4th-order numerical integration, as long as the difference between the static and kinematic friction coefficients is small. However, errors in the results by the approximate solution increase and are not negligible if the difference between the friction coefficients exceeds approximately 40% of the static friction coefficient.
The dynamic load effects are conveyed to the railway bridges through tracks which are generated by moving trains The dynamic load effects may vary due to the dynamic characteristics of the applied vehicle loads and the railway bridges containing the track system. However, the track effects have been neglected or simplified by spring elements in the most studies since it is quite complex to consider the track systems in the dynamic analysis models of railway bridges. In this study, track system on railway bridges is modeled using a three-dimensional discrete-support model that can simulate the load carrying behavior of tracks. In addition, this program is developed with the precise 20-car model and a continuous PSC(prestressed concrete) box girder bridge, which is the main bridge type of Korea Train express(KTX). Three-dimensional elements are used for both. The dynamic response of railway bridges is found to be affected depending on whether the track model is considered or not. The influencing rate depends on the traveling speed and different wheel-axle distance. The dynamic bridge response is decreased remarkably by the track systems around the resonant frequency. Therefore, the resonance effect can be reduced by modifying the track properties in the railway bridge.

The idea of carbon dioxide sequestration in the ocean is proposed to be an effective mitigation strategy to counteract potential global warming due to the greenhouse effect. Therefore, in the present study, calculations of the dissolution behavior of carbon dioxide when liquid carbon dioxide is released at 1,000m and 1,500 m in depth. by fixed pipeline are peformed. The results show the liquid $CO_2$ injected in the ocean becomes $CO_2$ bubble at between 350m and 500m in depth, and the injection from a moving ship is a more effective method of dissolution than through a fixed pipeline. It so also noted that the ultimate plume generated from $CO_2$ bubbles repeats expansion and shrinking due to the peeling from a fixed pipeline.

The dynamic load effects, generated by moving trains, are transferred to the railway bridges through tracks. The dynamic load effects may vary due to the dynamic characteristics of the applied vehicle loads and the railway bridges including the track system. However, the track models have been neglected or simplified by spring elements in the most studies since it is quite complicated to consider the track systems in the dynamic analysis models of railway bridges. In this study track system on railway bridges are modeled using a three-dimensional discrete-support model that can simulate the load carrying behavior of tracks. A 40m simply supported prestressed concrete box-girder system adopted for high-speed railway bridges are modeled for simulation works. The train models are composed of 20 cars for KTX. The dynamic response of railway bridges are found to be affected depending on whether the track model is considered for not. The influencing rate depends on the traveling speed and different wheel-axle distance. The dynamic bridge response decreases remarkably by the track systems around the resonant frequency. Therefore, the resonance effect can be reduced by modifying the track properties in the railway bridge, especially for KTX trains.

The dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIF ; $K_{I}$$^{dyn}$) were studied in some polymeric materials using caustics method with a high speed camera system. Also crack tip propagation speed was measured by dynamic crack propagation velocity measuring device. To calculate DSIF a finite element analysis program-INha Stress Analysis Moving CRack(INSAMCR) was utilized. Dynamic fracture characteristics were investigated to verify a relationship between DSIF and crack tip propagation speed and acceleration in PMMA, Homalite-100 and Polycarbonate. The relationship between dynamic stress intensity factor and crack tip velocity revealed typical shapes. Measured crack tip acceleration data envelope converges to the zero level with increasing DSIF. Equivalently crack tip velocities show a wide spread range at low values of DSIF, but become a constant with a higher DSIF. $1.2MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, $1.4MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ and $1.3 MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ were obtained as $K_{I}$$^{dyn}$ values to arrest the dynamic crack for PMMA, Homalite-100 and Polycarbonate, respectively. INSAMCR was run to verify experimental results in PMMA and shows good agreementment.
An experimental study of the effect of operating conditions on the behavior of a lean premixed laboratory combustor operating on natural gas has been conducted. Measurements were made characterizing the pressure fluctuations in the combustor and the flame structure over a range of inlet temperatures, inlet velocities and equivalence ratios. In addition the fuel distribution at the inlet to the combustor was varied such that it was an independent parameter in the experiment. Inlet temperature, inlet velocity and equivalence ratio were all found to have an effect on the stability characteristics of the combustor. The nature of this effect, however, depended on the fuel distribution. For example, with one fuel distribution the combustor would become unstable when the temperature was increased, whereas with a different fuel distribution the combustor would become unstable when the temperature was decreased. Similarly, the operating conditions had an effect on the flame structure. For example the intensity-weighted center of mass of the flame was found to move closer to the center body as either the temperature or equivalence ratio increased. It was interesting and somewhat surprising to note, however, that as the location of the center of mass changed with operating conditions it did so by moving along a line of constant flame angle.
The development of fast information network connections and the information highway of todays society have made consumers to demand various services in interior design. The media influencing consumer behavior is with no doubt, the Internet. The exponential growth in Internet users in Korea is surprised to all other countries. At this time where new businesses and events on the Internet are developing successfully, the educational and cultural benefits to consumers, which is quite different from the time when consumers only depended on television and newspaper, are enabling consumer demand to grow together with the abundant floods of information. This implies that consumer choice is shifting from needs-based to wants-based products and services. In the past where only the necessities were mass-produced and there was a lack in goods in general, there just werent enough products or varieties for consumers to either compare or evaluate. Today, comparing and evaluating has become natural with the access to information, and consumers have teamed to choose interior products that fit their preferences. In other words, this means that consumers are now at a transition point where they are moving from the simple everyday needs of the past to wants of the present that allows them to form a standard for selecting products of their own preference.
