This paepr presents an algorithm for searching an object in a fast way which contains a continuous moving object in multi-dimensional spatical databases. This algorithm improves the search method of R-tree for the case that a target object is continuously moving in a spatial database. It starts the searching from the current node instead of the root of R-tree. Thus, the algorithm will find the target object from the entries of current node or sibling nodes in the most cases. The performance analysis shows that it is more efficient than the existing algorithm for R-tree when search windows or target objects are continuously moving.
Recently, there have been researches on storage and retrieval technique of moving objects, which are highly concerned by user in database application area such as video databases, spatio-temporal databases, and mobile databases. In this paper, we propose a new signature-based indexing scheme which supports similar sub-trajectory retrieval at well as good retrieval performance on moving objects trajectories. Our signature-based indexing scheme is classified into concatenated signature-based indexing scheme for similar sub-trajectory retrieval, entitled CISR scheme and superimposed signature-based indexing scheme for similar sub-trajectory retrieval, entitled SISR scheme according to generation method of trajectory signature based on trajectory data of moving object. Our indexing scheme can improve retrieval performance by reducing a large number of disk access on data file because it first scans all signatures and does filtering before accessing the data file. In addition, we can encourage retrieval efficiency by appling k-warping algorithm to measure the similarity between query trajectory and data trajectory. Final]y, we evaluate the performance on sequential scan method(SeqScan), CISR scheme, and SISR scheme in terms of data insertion time, retrieval time, and storage overhead. We show from our experimental results that both CISR scheme and SISR scheme are better than sequential scan in terms of retrieval performance and SISR scheme is especially superior to the CISR scheme.

This paper addresses techniques for predicting a future path of an object moving on a road network. Most prior methods for future prediction mainly focus their attention on objects moving in Euclidean space. A variety of applications such as telematics, however, deal with objects that move only over road networks in most cases, thereby requiring an effective method of future prediction of moving objects on road networks. In this paper, we propose a novel method for predicting a future path of an object by analyzing past trajectories whose changing pattern is similar to that of a current trajectory of a query object. We devise a new function that measures a similarity between trajectories by reflecting the characteristics of road networks. By using this function, we predict a future path of a given moving object as follows: First, we search for candidate trajectories that contain subtrajectories similar to a given query trajectory by accessing past trajectories stored in moving object databases. Then, we predict a future path of a query object by analyzing the moving paths along with a current position to a destination of candidate trajectories thus retrieved. Also, we suggest a method that improves the accuracy of path prediction by regarding moving paths that have just small differences as the same group.
Location-Based Services(LBS) give rise to location-based queries of which results depend on the locations of moving objects. One of important applications of LBS is to examine tracks of continuously moving objects. Moving objects databases need to provide 3-dimensional indexing for efficiently processing range queries on the movement of continuously changing positions. An extension of the 2-dimensional R-tree to include time dimension shows low space utilization and poor search performance, because of high overlap of index nodes and their dead space. To solve these problems, we propose a new R-tree based indexing technique, namely TR-tree. To increase storage utilization, we assign more entries to the past node by using the unbalanced splitting policy. If two nodes are highly overlapped, these nodes are forcibly merged. It is the forced merging policy that reduces the dead space and the overlap of nodes. Since big line segments can also affect the overlap of index nodes to be increased, big line segments should be clipped by the clipping policy when splitting overfull nodes. The TR-tree outperforms the 3DR-tree and TB-tree in all experiments. Particularly, the storage utilization of the TR-tree is higher than the R-tree and R*-tree.
For supporting LBS service, recent studies on spatial network databases (SNDB) have been done actively. In order to gain good performance on query processing in SNDB, we, in this paper. design efficient storage and index structures for spatial network data, point of interests (POIs), and moving objects on spatial networks. First, we design a spatial network file organization for maintaining the spatial network data itself consisting of both node and edges. Secondly, we design a POI storage and index structure which is used for gaining fast accesses to POIs, like restaurant, hotel, and gas station. Thirdly, we design a signature-based storage and index structure for efficiently maintaining past, current, and expected future trajectory information of moving objects. Finally, we show that the storage and index structures designed in this paper outperform the existing storage structures for spatial networks as well as the conventional trajectory index structures for moving objects.
Skyline queries have recently received considerable attention in the searching services. The skyline contains interesting objects that are not dominated by any other objects on all dimensions. Many related works have processed a skyline on static data or on moving objects in Euclidean space. However, this paper assumes that the point of a skyline query continuously moves in road networks. We propose a new method that efficiently processes continuous skyline queries in road networks through pre-computed shortest range data of objects. Our experiments show that the proposed method is about 100 times faster than previous methods in terms of query processing time.
One of the most important issue in location-aware computing is tracking moving objects efficiently. To this end, an efficient protocol which updates location information in a location server is highly needed. In fact, the performance of a location update strategy highly depends on the assumed mobility pattern. In most existing works, however, the mobility issue has been disregarded and too simplified as linear function of time. In this paper, we propose a new mobility model, called state-based mobility model (SMM) to provide more generalized framework for both describing the mobility and updating location information of complexly moving objects. We also introduce the state-based location update protocol (SLUP) based on this mobility model. Using experimental comparison, we illustrate that the proposed technique is many times better in reducing location update cost and the communication bandwidth consumption.
The R-trees are usually used for an index of trajectories in moving-objects databases. However, they need to access a number of nodes to trace same trajectories because of considering only a spatial proximity. Overlaps and dead spaces should be minimized to enhance the performance of range queries in moving-objects indexes. Trajectories of moving-objects should be preserved to enhance the performance of the trajectory queries. In this paper, we propose the TP3DR-tree(Trajectory Preserved 3DR-tree) using clusters of trajectories for range and trajectory queries. The TP3DR-tree uses two split policies: one is a spatial splitting that splits the same trajectory by clustering and the other is a time splitting that increases space utilization. In addition, we use connecting information in non-leaf nodes to enhance the performance of combined-queries. Our experiments show that the new index outperforms the others in processing queries on various datasets.
LBS(Location Based Services) provide the location-based information to its mobile users. The primary functionality of these services is to provide useful information to its users at a minimum cost of resources. The functionality can be implemented through data mining techniques. However, conventional data mining researches have not been considered spatial and temporal aspects of data simultaneously. Therefore, these techniques are inappropriate to apply on the objects of LBS, which change spatial attributes over time. In this paper, we propose a new data mining technique for identifying the temporal patterns from the series of the locations of moving objects that have both temporal and spatial dimension. We use a spatial operation of contains to generalize the location of moving point and apply time constraints between the locations of a moving object to make a valid moving sequence. Finally, the spatio-temporal technique proposed in this paper is very practical approach in not only providing more useful knowledge to LBS, but also improving the quality of the services.
Most of works have been performed on representation of spatiotemporal objects from various points of view. Most of them represent spatiotemporal objects using approaches from GIS, temporal databases, object-oriented databases or data type. Spatiotemporal objects can be classified as objects whose position and shape changes discretely over time, objects whose position changes continuously and objects whose shape changes continuously as well as position. Previous works on spatiotemporal model have focused on only one of them. In this paper, we propose a spatiotemporal model that can represent three types of objects in Euclidean plan. For this purpose, we represent both discrete and continuous moving objects by defining temporal model extended from valid time and by defining relationship between two consecutive versions of objects. The proposed spatiotemporal object model is based on open GIS specification so that it has compatibility with existing spatial data model.
