A study of the influence of service quality which is offered in a movie theater - Focus the Multiplex movie theater - (영화관에서 제공하는 서비스품질이 고객만족도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 - 멀티플렉스 영화관을 중심으로 -)

  • Resulting from a development of Korea's film industry, the number of the audience who visits a movie theater is increasing. so, interest in indoor service which is provided in the movie theater is also increasing, and there are needs for raising a movie theater's competitive power and an endeavor to offer a higher standard of service to customer. thus, this study will define service quality factor of a movie theater and provide ways of improving service quality by analyzing the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction and re-visit intention.

Spatial Restructuring of Movie Theather Locations (수요변화에 따른 영화 상영관 입지의 공간적 재구조화)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the restructuring processes of the locations of service industry whose demand has been decrease rapidly. The demand of movie theater has been change dramatically during the last three decades. the spatial distribution patterns of movie theaters have been changed according to the changes in the demand. In order to investigate the locational charateristics of movie theaters, in seoul we surveyed the consumer's behavior. We focused on the study to examine the relationships between the locations of movie theaters and transportation development. Especially, We look at the impacts of the development of subway networks on the locations of movie theaters in Seoul. The dvelopment of subway networks has played a very of movie theaters location. The hierarchicla structures of movie theaters have also chaged. Inspite of declining in the demand for movie theater, the number of first-run movie theaters has been increased continuously. The number of second-run movie theaters has been decreased dramatically. Some of them has been upgraded to first-run theater and some of them has been smallized. But, most of them have been closed. An the other hand the quality of movie theater facilities tends to be higher, while the sizes of movie theaters tends to be smallized.

  • Korea's film industry has been growing over the last 10 years, and there has been much attention to the antecedents of film box office sales both academic and business communities. So far, previous research which explained success factors of film or movie mainly focused on 3 stages, production, distribution and screening. However, these 3 steps are heavily vertically integrated in Korea's firm industry unlike United States. Almost 130% of movie theaters are multiplex chain and operated by film production companies such as CJ and Lotte Entertainment In this situation, film sales are likely to he affected by movie theaters own facilities or location factors rather than movie contents. Based. on resource-based view and S-C-P paradigm, the authors examined "whether movie theater's facilities factors and trade area factors such as accessibility, competitive situation, and population have effect to movie theater's sales revenues. The results showed that the average occupancy of theater is the most important factor to movie theaters sales in both large and small cities. In large cities, movie theater's facilities factors which included vibration seat special sound system, premium movie theater, VIP lounge are relatively important than trade area factors. In contrast, in small cities, location factors and accessibility are the most important factors to movie theaters sales. We discuss the managerial and theoretical implication for the results and the specific limitations are suggested at the end of the paper.

Effects of Consumption Values on Customer Satisfaction in Movie Theaters: A Focus on College Students (영화관의 소비가치가 고객만족에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 대학생을 중심으로)

  • Purpose - This study aims to classify and extend the consumer value of movie theaters into various values such as functional value, emotional value, social value, epistemic value, and conditional value based on the theory of consumption value by Sheth, Newman and Gross (1991). It also aims to verify the path structure of consumption value→customer satisfaction→behavior intention of movie theaters to confirm its generalization. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was conducted by collecting data on Kimpo university students from various areas in Incheon, Northern Seoul, Ilsan, Kyonggi Province, and Kimpo City. The survey was conducted by distributing 280 survey papers from Oct. 5 to 15, 2013 and collecting 238 of them. The final analysis used 208 questionnaires, after excluding 30 invalid responses. The statistical analysis of this study used the SPSS 19.0 statistics package. Results - The results of the survey are as follows: First, consumption values of movie theaters are classified into the following five groups: functional value, emotional value, social value, epistemic value, and conditional value. This study verified that consumption values play a role as a previous variable of customer satisfaction. Second, functional value, emotional value, and epistemic value have positive effects on customer satisfaction. On the other hand, social value and conditional value do not affect customer satisfaction. Finally, customer satisfaction has a positive impact on behavior intention. Theater users have an intention to re-use or recommend the movie theater they used when they are satisfied with a movie theater's physical environment and services. Conclusions - This study can provide academic and practical implications as follows based on the results mentioned above. First, academic implications can be found in that consumption values of movie theater users are classified into five values based on the theory of consumption value by Sheth et al. (1991). In the previous study, the service quality of a movie theater was studied based on the service quality of service encounters and a physical environment→customer satisfaction→behavior intention path structure. However, this study was verified by a consumption value→customer satisfaction→behavior intention path structure to classify consumption value, but not service quality or perceived value of quality, to confirm this generalization. Second, practical implications can be found in that the relative impact of consumption value of movie theaters on consumer satisfaction showed that functional value was followed by epistemic value and emotional value. In the previous study on movie theaters, previous variables of customer satisfaction were separated only by functional service quality including service encounters and physical environment; in some other studies, quality of service encounter had a direct effect on customer satisfaction. Accordingly, a marketing manager of a movie theater should develop various differentiated services by reflecting not only functional value such as service encounters and physical environment but also epistemic value and emotional value.

  • It happened many changes in our country on construction and culture with the economy and society, after the efflorescence. And it was provided the rapid growth in the theater space which is the center of culture with advance in economy and the society. The research which it analyzed these theaters of composition, form, function and size, and it shows that the theater space is developed with the influence of time. Also the research which it sees with start are to the plan and the plan of theater space and they provide they do with a fundamental data and to sleep. Advancement and change of theater space craving of the spectators it is sufficient and it gives, to make the opportunity the culture art will be able to develop. For the diversification of activation and a development of the theater space, it have to analysis details and go deep in to the study continuously.

The change of theater space with improvement of theaters gives a chance to develop arts of culture and crowds satisfied there demands. Accordingly this research is finding the origin of movie theaters and clarifies the change of space characteristics. Accordingly, movie theaters have been introduced and improved the age which is defined from modern to present. Moreover the cases are selected by Korean Film Council and Chronicle of Korean Architectural Culture. The characteristic of theater space is made an analysis by consist and form of space, and this research is let us know the theaters space has been changed and developed due to ages. Besides, this analysis research would he made theaters more active and culture spaces more improved in the future. The deepen research and analysis should be kept studying to make theater space improve and rev up.

Vibration Transfer Characteristic of Seat with the Auxiliary Plastic Member for Movie Theater Chair (플라스틱 보조재를 갖는 영화관 의자 시트의 진동전달 특성)

  • In the previous paper, we have reported on the development of foaming sponge seat with the auxiliary spring member and suggested new possibility of the special seat with the auxiliary plastic member for movie theater chair. In this study, we have examined the major design parameters needed in the development of a foaming sponge seat in which the mesh type plastic member are inserted to improve the vibration transfer effect of a chair seat. Through analyzing several prototypes by applying experimentation as well as the experimental modal analysis method, it was confirmed that the effect of vibration transfer can be improved through the use of a mesh type plastic member and applied to the design of practical chair seat.

  • This paper describes the suggestion of the special seat with the auxiliary plastic member for movie theater chair. In the previous paper, we have reported on the development of foaming sponge seat with the auxiliary spring member. And we have confirmed that it was more effective on vibration transfer than the chair seat of foaming sponge only. In this study, we have examined the major design parameters needed in the development of a foaming sponge seat in which the mesh type plastic member are inserted to improve the vibration transfer effect of a chair seat. By applying experimentation to the prototype as well as the experimental modal analysis method, we made sure that the effect of the vibration transfer could be improved through the use of a mesh type plastic member as similar as the auxiliary spring member.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a planning method for increasing visitors' usage attraction by understanding user circulation in the large scale commercial complex. Focusing on the impact of anchor tenant on the pedestrian traffic arousing visitors' usage attraction flow, this study analyzed pedestrian circulation and traffic volume of Lotte World Mall, a large scale commercial complex. In this study, the change of pedestrian traffic in the commercial complex was investigated and the circulation flow of anchor tenant visitors such as movie theater in the commercial complex was simulated by computer. By analyzing both characteristics of pedestrian circulation and traffic volume in large scale commercial complex and movie theater users' pedestrian traffic with network-based computer simulation, positive relationship between pedestrian traffic to movie theater and pedestrian traffic dispersion of the whole commercial complex users was emerged. In addition, It is necessary to plan of distributing pedestrian traffic of vertical moving line in central space appropriately for using attraction function of anchor tenant.

  • According to increasing spare time by executing a five-day work and concern to multiplex by developing Korean movie industry, it is required an expedient that can not only strengthen the competitiveness but also serve higher level service to custom. thus, this study will provide ways of improving service quality by analyzing the effect of service quality of multiplex on customer satisfaction and re-visit intention.
