I surveyed scenery structures, public buildings and single home forms, and fence types of house in twelve villages which have undertaken improving environment of rural community in four provinces. They all have an inferior surroundings to live in rural village, because they were isolated from the city, located on the mountain or island, and made a living under the slate materials of roof. The central government has been driving to reform the conditions with local office, so that they may increase their living qualities and village environment to get to the general level of rural area. There are three results of this study as follows: First, the scenery of the village surveyed has a remarkable views of locality and hierarchy of layers between field and mountain, which is very identified as a typical image of Korean rural topology. Second, the public buildings and single homes and outside wall of houses were personally designed or reformed as a various types like a flat slab style and different architectural structure, because they followed only to keep the architectural code rather than to make a harmony with other traditional style buildings. When they have to remodel it again through SaethulMaul project, they are needed to consider of both architectural code and design guideline for the local landscape design image. Third, to make a different landscape view of each village and improve housing conditions, it should be taken a people participation design way.

As part of this study, an analysis of local diversity is carried out. The current existing village houses in Kocheon-Ri can be categorized according to their floor structure, either as a wooden-floored or an Ondol-floored Kyup-jip(a double row house type). It was found that the wooden-flooded Kyup-jip house has been transformed into Ondol-floorded Kyup-jip due to a range of various factors. In order to clarify the characteristics of the vernacular dwelling type occurring in a particular area, it is important to determine the typical form that appears within the broader area. • This study, from conditions connected with water in Feng-Shui theory, is to find out their influence of the location and spatial composition of the studied villages, Hawei and Yangdong, and then to offer the result as basic data for the study of the traditional village in the future. The study method is to analyze topography by the map and present state of villages studied, to interprete them on the base of location, spatial composition, and chi, and then to analyze the relevancy of Feng-Shui theory of them. The result of the study are to be following: Houses of Hawei village are situated on the inside of a winding stream of waterway, while those of Yang dong village are located on the outside of a winding stream of waterway. In case of Hawei village, showed the close interrelation between the distribution of present houses and running speed of waterway by positin. Judging from the location, orientation and surroundings of mountains and waterway, topographical composition of Hawei village is Duk su guk, but that of Yang dong village is Juang feng guk. Comparing with Yang dong and Hawei in location and spatial composition, the conditions of waterway as being locational factor, for example, the geomancy of situation, orientation, and phisical phenomena(lenth, width, and depth of waterway in front of village) of waterway, are more importantly considered in Hawei village being situated on even land than in Yang dong located at the foot of the mountain.

  • Rural villages have many problems such as the collapse of rural village communities with continued over-depopulation and aging, reduced functions of towns and villages, deteriorated services with changes in the structure of settlement class and decreased use of the facilities. they also have difficulties in maintenance in spite of the increase of the roles of rural village community facilities. Various plans for the utilization of community facilities to promote the vitality of rural villages and the revitalization of communities have been needed. Thus, this study aimed to offer basic data to seek for future plans to utilize community facilities and reconstruct communities through an analysis of the current uses of energy and community facilities in rural villages. The results indicated that the consumption of petroleum was highest in mountain villages at an average of 187,475 won/month($137{\ell}$), followed by fishing villages at an average of 144,142 won/month($104{\ell}$) and rural villages at an average of 126,070 won/month($93{\ell}$). The rate of utilization of community facilities was reversely highest in rural villages at 84.3%, followed by fishing villages at 61.1% and mountain villages at 40.7%. This research also found that households saved energy when they used community facilities and areas with a high rate of utilization of community facilities at a lower average temperature in winter. It saved approximately 33% energy compared to other areas. Finally, efficient and economical methods for community facilities in villages to be newly developed and the remodeling of existing facilities should been needed in the future to contribute to reconstructing rural village communities that face a crisis of maintenance or abolition.

  • The purpose of this study is on identifying vegetation change through monitoring representative complementary village forests according to different management. For this, two of complementary village forests around Mai mountain which many ones remain were selected. Those are complementary village forests of Seochon and Wonyeonjang. Seochon forest is a representative one which is managed naturally and Wonyeonjang one is a representative one which is managed artificially. The field survey for monitoring was preformed in 2002 and 2007, 2016. D(Dominant degree) and S(Sociability degree) were measured by Brown-Blanquet's method in field survey. Through the analysis and review of survey data, the change of species richness, appearing species characteristics, species composition and layer structure etc. according to different management was monitored. As a result, it can be seen that natural succession has increased species diversity, improved vegetation structure and circulation of complementary village forest. On the other hand, excessive anthropomorphic management was found to be detrimental to the health of the forests and to the vegetation structure and species composition. And it was found that excessive management threaten sustainability and periodical proper management is necessary. Through this review, the useful management direction of complementary village forests was suggested.
