This paper describes a vehicle driving-load estimation method for application to vehicle Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC). Vehicle driving-load consists of aerodynamic force, rolling resistance, and gravitational force due to road slope and is unknown disturbance in a vehicle dynamic model. The vehicle driving-load has been estimated from engine and wheel speed measurements using a vehicle dynamic model a least square method. The estimated driving-load has been used in the adaptation of throttle/brake control law. The performance of the control law has been investigated via both simulation and vehicle tests. The simulation and test results show that the proposed control law can provide satisfactory vehicle-to-vehicle distance control performance for various driving situations.
Load simulator is essential to test and quality the performance of various control systems. It is good time to introduce a method to design and analyze the load simulator or since many research centers and industrial companies are trying to buy or design the load simulator. The stability, accuracy and response speed of the simulator are represented by the system parameters such as the hydraulic motor characteristics, the servovalve characteristics, supply pressure, rotational inertia, rotational spring constant, sensor and controller gains. Two design examples are shown here. A load simulator for a position control system and that for a velocity control system are designed. The goodness of the proposed method is verified by the digital computer simulations.
Gas turbine systems are applied extensively in energy supplies to cover peak load requirements. The gas turboset must be accelerated by starting device up to 60%~80% of rated speed to ignite the gas turbine. Recently, the most favorable and economical starting device is the LCI(Load Commutated Inverter). The LCI runs up the gas turboset by feeding the generator as a synchronous motor. In this paper, we discuss in detail the driving principles and features of 183MW gas turbine system. During field application of LCI system, many tests have been conducted and the results were described in this paper. The test results will be considered as the important resources for development in future.
The analysis and simulation are the method to study the behavior, response, and specification of the driver device. This paper proposes brushless DC drive which using the vector control technique. The encoder is used detect the rotor position and decode to Three-phase step signal. The step signal is modulated with triangle signal and change to the pulse width modulation (PWM) signal. The PWM signal is used for control the input power of the motor based on the vector control technique. The experimental results of the driver circuit and motor response performed under the following condition: as the motor was started, change the load torque, and vary the supply voltage. The experimental performs with a dynamometer and the test results are compared to the simulation method is the same result.
In this paper, we propose vehicle running characteristic simulator. The developed simulator is configured by two induction motors which are directly coupled with each other. One motor is to simulate the vehicle drive and another motor is to simulate the vehicle dynamic load including running resistance, gradient resistance and adhesive characteristics between rail and wheel. The running characteristics of vehicle are modeled by numerical formulas. These are programed by software of embedded controller. Thus, it is possible to change several running characteristics during the running test freely and instantly. To evaluate the feasibility of the simulator, the experiments on slip and adhesion coefficient are performed. Additionally the adhesion control and speed control of vehicle are tested with simulator. Experimental results show that the simulator can produce the driving characteristics similar to the vehicle system.
In this paper, intelligent methods using digital protection relay in power management and control system is developed in order to protect power systems by means of timely fault detection during operation and control at starting for induction motor which have various load environments and capacities in power systems. The digital protective relay was designed with DSP CPU(TMS320C31) to Protect and measure more quickly and precisely. The test result on the basis of KEMCl120 and IEC60255, show that the operation time error of the digital motor protection relay is improved within $\pm$5%. Also, we can control motors at starting according to starting types with simple method as programmable sequence editor. So we can improve the demerits of high cost and much manhour for rework.
Asynchronus high speed turbo blower of 100HP class with gas bearing supports is developed. The high speed motor is cooled by air and it's RPM is controlled by high frequency inverter to adjust inlet flow rate. Product family is ranged from 50 to 200HP and covered by three frames. Highly efficient impeller is designed and proved by performance test on system. Overall measured system efficiency is 82% including motor and inverter. The motor efficiency is about 95%. It is designed to guarantee to operate at ambient temperature of 35 Deg.C and max 45 DegC. Gas bearing with high load capacity is developed to support heavy rotor on low rotational speed.
This paper describes an experimental investigation of the effect of cooling flow rate on gas foil thrust bearing (GFTB) performance. In a newly developed GFTB test rig, a non-contact type pneumatic cylinder provides static loads to the test GFTB and a high-speed motor rotates a thrust runner up to the maximum speed of 80 krpm. Force sensor, torque arm connected to another force sensor, and thermocouples measures the applied static load, drag torque, and bearing temperature, respectively, for cooling flow rates of 0, 25, and 50 LPM at static loads of 50, 100, and 150 N. The test GFTB with the outer radius of 31.5 mm has six top foils supported on bump foil structures. During the series of tests, the transient responses of the bearing drag torque and bearing temperature are recorded until the bearing temperature converges with time for each cooling flow rate and static load. The test data show that the converged temperature decreases with increasing cooling flow rate and increases with increasing static load. The drag torque and friction coefficient decrease with increasing cooling flow rate, which may be attributed to the decrease in viscosity and lubricant (air) temperature. These test results suggest that an increase in cooling flow rate improves GFTB performance.
In this paper, accelerated stress test(AST) for Magnetic Switch (MS) are applied to assure specified reliability of the products. Magnetic contactor that functions with over-current relay is called MS. Magnetic contactor closes and opens the motor load with ON/OFF switch of electronic contactor. It is also used for protecting and controlling the load. Magnetic contactor detects the over-current flow in the load with a over-current relay and disconnects the load by opening its control power. In this study, AST for product assembly are developed in order to improve the weak point so that increase the product reliability. Also we will show the basic information for the accelerated life test(ALT). The proposed AST results and procedures may be extended and applied to testing similar kinds of products to reduce test times and costs of the tests remarkably. Finally the results of this study will contribute to improving reliability of products and strengthening competitiveness of our products in the world markets.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to derive solutions and prevent similar cases from occurring by analyzing the causes of cracks found in temperature cycling tests of rocket motor. Methods: By combining the results of the current state confirmation test, non-destructive test, domestic and foreign rocket motor comparison test, cutting test, and adhesion test according to the number of times to apply mold release agent, a Cause and Effect Diagram analysis was performed to derive the cause of cracks. Results: Through this study, 26 factors that could cause cracking in rocket motors during temperature cycling tests were identified. Through various additional test results, a total of five causes were identified, including chemical and structural design of the joint between the propellant and stress relief insert, omission of procedure in the manufacturing procedures, natural aging due to temperature, and load accumulation due to temperature changes. The fundamental cause was confirmed to be insufficient consideration of the release properties of the propellant and stress relief insert. Conclusion: During the design process, it was confirmed that this could be solved by structurally or chemically designing the insert so that it does not combine with the propellant, or by applying a mold release agent during the manufacturing process.
