Fuzzy logic based advance angle control for low voltage SRM (저전압 SR모터의 퍼지로직 기반 전상각 제어)

  • In this paper, a fuzzy advance angle control method is described to drive an industrial low voltage SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) for 10kW forklift truck. SRM has a highly non-linear characteristic that is due to change the rotor and stator. And low voltage SRM is designed that its phase resistance and phase inductance is very low to inject high current into the phase windings. In this reason, the proper current control is necessary to drive the low voltage SRM efficiently. SRM has positive torque at increasing inductance region and negative torque at decreasing inductance region. Due to this reason, the current has to be built up in the increasing phase inductance part as soon as possible. Therefore, the phase switch must be turned on before the phase inductance increases, and this angle is called as the advance angle. Also, the phase current has to be dropped before the phase inductance decreases. Fuzzy logic is a flexible and general-purposed method of implementing non-linear functions and as such it is useful in control applications. Consequently, we designed a fuzzy advance angle controller to control the phase current appropriately.

A Performance of Single Phase Switched Reluctance Motor having both Radial and Axial air gap

  • Switched Reluctance Motor has doubly salient poles in stator and rotor, windings are wound in just stator and no magnet or windings on the rotor. This configuration is robust mechanically and thermally. The inverter of SRM is more robust than that of induction or brushless DC(BLDC) motor, but still its drive is comparatively expensive for home appliance. To drive the conventional three or four-phase SRM, 6 to 8 power switches are required when asymmetric bridge inverter is employed. Generally, more than 50% of the cost for the SRM drive is allocated to power devices and gate drives. This paper proposed single phase SRM that have both radial and axial air gaps. The stator and rotor were stacked with two types of stampings that have different diameters. This configuration is very effective to increase align inductance(Lmax). The high value of Lmax increases the motor efficiency and power density. The proposed single phase SRM(Claw SRM) can be driven by only two power switches. To show the validity of the proposed idea, the analysis using finite element method(FEM) and experimental works are carried out. The proposed SPSRM can be driven with high efficiency and can be made compactly and inexpensively because of high value of align inductance and less number of switches. For the comparison, we used same stator for three-phase and single phase, and slightly different stator and rotor for proposed single phase SRM(Claw SRM)

  • This study investigates the design factors of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) which is applied to Hybrid electric vehicle as a driving power. Recently, there are many studies of IPMSM for application to Hybrid Electric Vehicle, because IPMSM has characteristics of high torque, high power density and high efficiency which come from reluctance torque due to difference of inductance as well as magnet torque. This study analyzes the inductance and design characteristics of IPMSM by using finite element method and focuses on design and analysis of IPMSM which can operates with high efficiency at low speed range. For this embodiment, magnet shape is changed from conventional block type to arc type without any change of outline dimension of motor and this change of magnet shape makes it possible to increase back EMF and sinusoidal waveform. Analysis results are verified by test of improved and embodied motor. As a test result , increased back EMF and sharply decrease of harmonics are secured and through this contribution of reduced fuel consumption of Hybrid electric vehicle is expected.

  • The single-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) generates the positive torque in the restricted section. So, it can not started by itself and the torque ripple is heavier than poly-phase. For self-starting and fixing rotating direction, the rotor should be placed at the rising inductance slope when stationary. The parking permanent magnet locates the rotor in the fixed position, which can be started by it-self. It is very simple and cost effective but has some drawbacks. It affects the rotor during the operation, so the characteristics of motor, such as a torque, speed, and ripple are changed to go bad. This paper presents the detent torque of parking magnet starting device through the finite element analysis and experiments. The finite element analysis is performed at incremental rotor positions over one detent torque cycle for any one pole. The prototype, fabricated in the previous research, is used for the experiments. The inductance, instant torque, and detent torque are calculated using the terminal voltage and phase current. Finally, the finite element analysis result and the experiment result are compared for analysis and validity.

  • This paper presents an implementation of high-dynamic performance control system of Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives for an industrial servo system with direct torque control (DTC). The problems of DTC for high-dynamic performance and maximum efficiency RSM drives are the nonlinear variable flux and inductance due to a saturated stator linkage flux and nonlinear inductance curve with various load currents. The accurate estimation of the stator flux and torque are obtained using stator flux observer of which a saturated inductance Ld and Lq can be compensated by using the adapted neural network from measuring the modulus and angle of the stator current. To obtain fast torque response and maximum torque/current with varying load current, the reference command flux is ensured by imposing Ids=Iqs. This control strategy is proposed to fast response and optimal efficiency for RSM drive. In order to prove rightness of the suggested control algorithm, we have some actual experimental system using 6000 pulse/rev encoder at ${\pm}10$ and ${\pm}1500rpm$. The developed digitally high-performance control system are shown some good response characteristics of control results and high performance features using 1.0kW RSM of which has 2.57 Ld/Lq salient ratio.

  • In this paper, a synchronous permanent magnet planar motor (SPMPM) with Halbach array is proposed for its high energy density. The magnetization and flux density distribution are obtainedby magnet scalar potential the characteristics such as inductance, back-EMF and thrust are evaluated. It can be concluded that the analysis of SPMPM with Halbach magnet array is credible and feasible.

  • The control of the switched reluctance motor is usually on the inductance profiles as a function of position. In this paper, a control scheme to maximize the motor torque is proposed by determining optimal turn-off angle with a self-tuning control method.

  • This paper deals with two kinds of novel shape switched reluctance motors (SRM) with magnetic barriers in order to improve operating performances of prototype. The magnetic barriers make rotor poles more saturated, and consequently inductance profiles are distorted. The changed inductance affects input current shape and eventually torque characteristics. In order to analyze the complicated flux pattern of the SRM with magnetic barriers and its terminal characteristics simultaneously, coupled field circuit modeling method is used. The finite element method is used to model the nonlinear magnetic field, and coupled to the circuit model of the SRM overall system. After experimental results are presented to prove the accuracy of the method, the several analysis results are compared, and the improved rotor shape is presented.

  • This paper deals with analysis of d, q-axis inductance and experimental validation of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). Using AC standstill test, d, q-axis inductances are obtained in each current value. In these results are compared and analyzed with 2-d finite element analysis (FEA) to validate this paper.
