  • This paper describes the current- based compact digital motor protective relay for low and high voltage induction motors, which are widely used in industrial and commercial power systems. The existing protective relays for motor protection had only overload, short circuit, reverse phase, open circuit and grounding protective elements, and measurement, start/stop control function. But in present day, for automation system, various functions are required, especially motor management and sequence control function and more. To meet these requirements, we developed an economic current-based compact digital motor protective relay which had various function to control, manage and monitor the induction motor.

  • In this paper conventional technique will be described, which can be used for the measuring various parameters of induction motor. This is followed by presenting some other, alternative, techniques. The two tests are described which are suitable to obtain the electrical parameters of symmetrical 1hp three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor. These are the blocked rotor test and no load test. By the application of these, it is possible to determine the parameters which are presented in the steady-state equivalent-circuit of determining an induction motor. One conventional method of determining the inertia of an induction motors is obtained by performing retardation tests. The angular rotor speed of the motor is monitored, following its disconnection from the stator supply. Since the inertia torque J dw/dt contains the inertia coefficient J and the friction and windage torque Bw contains the coefficient B, then J and B can be determined by performing retardation tests.

  • This paper deals with force characteristic analysis of linear switched reluctance motor using dynamic simulation. First, we calculated flux density of linear switched reluctance motor according to position. Second, analyzed normal force from flux density of linear switched reluctance motor according to position. Also, analysis result compares with data that is derived through a finite element analysis, and proved validity. However, linear switched reluctance motor has non linear characteristic, hence, analysis of propulsion force do not easy using analytical method. Therefore, we presented dynamic characteristic analysis model which is consisted at motor and sensor signal part, etc., and substitute circuit constant that get using magnetic equivalent circuit method, we confirmed propulsion force.

  • Single-phase is used widely power of field of appliance because can use commercialized power directly without power transform. Specially, because condenser nu-drive style single-phase induction motor efficiency is excellent, and most suitable in embodiment as economical. It is established true that method by crossing self-discipline and method by revolving magnetic field are interpretation of net single-phase induction motor, but method to calculate electric motor inside proper move in existent theory or method is some complex. That arbor in the law of circuit constant that combine equivalent circuit law with numerical analysis law according to development of the latest computer or microprocessor is suggested and does the calculation processing fast and correct. In this paper, measurement wishes to present method that calculate after calculate digital measurement that measures correctly and measures impossible the first and the second leakage reactance and no-load test locked-rotor test, DC test and resistance measurement of stator winding in circuit parameter calculation program that is had for MatLab program individually in single-phase power.

Analysis of electric circuit using capacitor for driving linear compressor (콘덴서를 이용한 선형압축기 구동 전기회로 해석)

  • A linear compressor generates pulsating pressure and oscillating flow in a cryocooler such as Stirling cryocooler and pulse tube refrigerator. It is driven by AC power source and designed to operate at resonance of piston motion. The driving voltage level is determined by electric parameters of resistance, inductance and thrust constant of linear motor. From voltage equation on linear motor, the power factor of driving power is inherently less than 1. The phase difference between voltage and current of supplied power can be zero using capacitor and this can minimize a supply voltage level. Especially, the linear compressor of kW class requires high voltage and thus can cause a difficulty in selecting power supply unit due to limitation of voltage level. The capacitor in driving electric circuit is useful to settle this problem. In this study, the electric circuit of linear compressor is analytically investigated with assumption of mechanical resonance. The electric parameters of commercial linear motor are used in the analysis. The effects of capacitor on driving voltage level and power factor are investigated. From analytic results, it is shown that the voltage level can be mimized with using capacitor in driving electric circuit.

  • To analyze the transient state of an induction motor, there have been studies for using the magnetic equivalent circuit method (MECM) instead of the time differential finite-element method, MECM which analyzes magnetic equivalent circuits after converting each part of an electric machine into the magnetic circuit elements. has the merits of short calculation-time and comparatively accurate results. To analyze an electric machine with MECM, we have to replace stator and rotor with the magnetic elements and express the air gap, where electromechanical energy conversion takes place, with the permeance. So in this paper, to analyze an Induction Motor with MECM, we express the magnetic equivalent circuit as algebraic equations and then as the matrix for solving easily them.

  • The 3-phase induction is used for the MCP(main coolant pump) and the pure water is used for lubrication of bearing because of the difficulty of repair. Therefore the type of motor is the canned-motor that is welded by sealed can to prevent the stator and rotor from the lubricating water. A lot of Eddy currents are produced in the can because of the conductivity of material. And these eddy currents in the can are the most important cause that decrease the efficiency of induction motor. Therefore we have to find the method to decrease these eddy currents in the can for the improvement of efficiency of motor. In this paper, we proposed the method of design and analysis of canned-motor using equivalent circuit with consideration of can loss for the improvement of efficiency of motor.

  • The variation of a load characteristic in the motor drive is one of the most important consideration. Because the current flowing into the motor generally varies according to the load variation, it needs to design the motor drive circuit properly in accordance with the load variation. However, the load variation of the drum washing machine is irregular and large due to the water flow and reverse load torque. Therefore, to design the motor drive circuit considering this load pattern, simulation results shows the load pattern modeling of the drum washing machine based on the physical analysis in this paper.

  • Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute(KERI) has successfully developed a 100hp-1800rpm-class high temperature superconducting(HTS) motor with high efficiency under partnership with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd. This motor has a HTS field winding and an air-cooled stator. The advantages of HTS motor can be represented by a reduction of 50% in both losses and size compared to conventional motors of the same rating. The cooling system is based on the heat transfer mechanism of the thermosyphon by using GM cryocooler as cooling source. The cold head is in contact with the condenser of a Ne-filled thermosyphon. Independently, the rotor assembly was tested at the stationary state and combined with stator. The HTS field winding could be cooled into below 30K. Test of open-circuit characteristics(OCC) and short-circuit characteristics(SCC) and load test with resistive load bank were conducted in generator mode. Also, load tests in motor mode driven by inverter were finished at KERI. Maximum operating current of field winding at 30K was 120A. From OCC and SCC test results synchronous inductance and synchronous reactance were 2.4mH, 0.49pu, respectively. Efficiency of this HTS machine was 93.3% in full load(100hp) test. This paper will present design, construction. and experimental test results of the 100hp HTS machine.

A Study on the Design and Analysis of a Voice Coil Linear Force Motor for Hydraulic Valve (밸브구동용 보이스 코일 선형 포스모터 설계와 해석 연구)

  • The voice coil linear force motor is a kind of a direct drive motion device that uses a permanent magnetic field and coil winding to produce force. In order to design a voice coil linear force motor, an exact calculations of the required force, the flux density in air gap and the flux pathway are needed. A conventional method can be used usually to calculate the flux density in air gap, but with this method it is needed to find a magnetic circuit revision constant. In this paper a voice coil linear force motor is designed by conventional design method and analyzed by 3D simulation program "Flux". For the prototype linear force motor, the results of the calculated by conventional design method and the analyzed by 3D simulation program are compared with the test result. Finally it is showed that the magnetic circuit revision constant which is found by comparing of the analyzed and the measured data can be used for the design of the voice coil type linear force motor to minimize the trial and error.
