A Performance Investigation and Comparison of Line Start-up Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with Super Premium Efficiency

  • This paper presents the performance investigation and design technology of a Line Start-up Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM) with super premium efficiency, including a design consideration and evaluation for motor start-up, key performance, and advanced finite element analysis FEA) for the design, improvement and verification, prototype build and test, design and test data comparison with a $Premium^{(R)}$ Efficient Induction Motor (PEIM). To assess the design technology, the LSPMSM prototype was built amended from a PEIM with the same frame, stator punching and rated output. Based on the prototype test, two novel design improvements and analyses have been done to eliminate noise and vibration. Additionally, the comparisons with the PEIM on the power factor, efficiency, frame size and active material consumption indicated that a significant performance improvement and active material cost reduction can be achieved by the LSPMSM.

  • For design of a electrical Machine it is used conventional design methode to determine size with considering of magnetical circuit and windings. After this process, Flux density and Torque are calculated with FEM program. But most electrical machines are complicated in their configuration, therefore it is not easy to understand the design process and analyzing methode. We need to develop a educational material. In this paper using Linear force motor, which is relatively not complicated in their configuration and easy to understand the relationship between electro magnetics and force, will be explained the design process and calculating process with Finite element methode. And with FEM program will be calculated and illustrated flux density in each part and Force of the Linear force motor easy to understand.

  • The 3-phase induction is used for the MCP(main coolant pump) and the pure water is used for lubrication of bearing because of the difficulty of repair. Therefore the type of motor is the canned-motor that is welded by sealed can to prevent the stator and rotor from the lubricating water. A lot of Eddy currents are produced in the can because of the conductivity of material. And these eddy currents in the can are the most important cause that decrease the efficiency of induction motor. Therefore we have to find the method to decrease these eddy currents in the can for the improvement of efficiency of motor. In this paper, we proposed the method of design and analysis of canned-motor using equivalent circuit with consideration of can loss for the improvement of efficiency of motor.

  • In this paper, a new type of step motor with two degree of mechanical freedom, which is named rotary-Linear Step Motor(RLSM), is presented. Its rotor axis can perform linear and rotary motions either separately or simultaneously. This paper discribes the design of RLSM using finite element method in which the magnetic saturation effect of the iron core is taken into account. The design parameters such as torques, forces and inductances are obtained from the computed magnetic vector potentials. A new type of Rotary-Linear Step Motor was constructed. The calculated parameters agree well with measurements.

  • In this paper, BLDC spindle motor is designed using CAE/CAT to reduce structural vibration. Motor is modeled and analyzed using a finite element analysis (FEA) program and correlated to the results of modal test. Design sensitivity analysis (DSA) of frequency is carried out and validated by the modal test of modified motor manufactured. This study shows that simulation-based design can improve quality with reduced development time.

  • We have been designed and fabricated a bi-directional ultrasonic linear motor using piezoelectric ceramics. With the finite element method, we design and verify validity of the structure, and determine its optimal structure, size of design variables, material and boundary conditions for proper generation of the ultrasonic waves. Based on the design, a prototype of the ultrasonic linear motor has been fabricated and characterized, which thereby proves practical applicability of this new motor.

  • In this paper, a CAE system, $MotorPro^{(TM)}$, is presented for motor design. It is composed of equivalent magnetic circuit method and finite element method. It provides fully automated finite element method that takes only a few seconds to a few minutes. Using this system. 18kw brushless DC motor is dealt as design example.

  • This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of an SRM drive for EPS application. A rack mounted EPS system is considered in this paper. In the unrestricted design conditions, motor parameters are determined for sufficient torque and speed with some restrictions. For the smooth torque generation and simple circuit of power system, 12/8 motor drive is considered. With FEM and magnetic circuit analysis, redesigned motor is simulated to meet the requirement of specifications. Effectiveness of the suggested SRM drive for EPS application is verified by redesigned motor drive tests.

  • The DC motor in a vehicle may cause noise and vibration because of high speed revolution, which can make a driver feel uncomfortable. There have been various studies attempting to solve these problems, focusing mostly on the causes of and ways to reduce noise and vibration. It is suggested that the noise in a DC motor may be primarily due to interaction between a brush and a commutator. Brush noise, the most common noise in a DC motor, results from a brush bounced from the surface of the commutator, fluctuation of the friction between the brush and the commutator, and the impact on the brush when passing over slots of the commutator. Based on the noise test, one of the most important design parameters was shown to be the roundness of the commutator. As the DC motor is used, the roundness of the commutator gets bigger with subsequent increase of the level of brush noise and vibration. There must be a threshold in order to prevent the brush noise from getting worse. Using the method of CAE is more efficient than the real test for purposes of looking for various design parameters to maintain the roundness of the commutator. In this study, the design process to reduce the brush noise is presented with the use of a computer model. The design parameters to reduce the brush noise and vibration are proposed by using FEM. The design parameters are used to reduce the noise and vibration of a DC motor and it is verified with the test results on a fan DC motor in a vehicle. This method may be applicable to various DC motor.

  • The motor boat which is the principal equipment of marine leisure depends heavily an imported motor boats in Korea But because the demand of marine leisure and motor boat increases, it is necessary to develope a cheap and safe domestic-manufactured motor boat. However the development of motor but for marine leisure is not performed at all in Korea in this paper, we consider the concept design of public motor but for marine leisure. The present status and possession prediction of leisure boat are investigated at first. And the benchmarking of the overseas motor bout for marine leisure is performed. And next the required performance, the range of principal dimension and the needed equipment of the public motor boat are investigated based on the benchmarking results of the overseas motor boat. Finally, the example of hull form design for Public motor boat is showed
