This paper proposes and implementation procedure for an automatic assembly system from a manual assembly and an evaluation method of implemented several automatic system alternatives using an AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) in a small-sized motor. First, the current product is redesigned for DFA (Design For Assembly) and assembly automation of motor, and then it is decided mechanisms of moving, magazining, feeding, composing of each part using main joining equipment and auxiliary equipment. Following the decided mechanism, the necessary assembly machines are selected or designed considering objectives and assembly conditions. Finally, the layout alternatives are completed for the automatic assembly system. According to the evaluation criteria which are established in advance, the automatic system alternatives are analyzed using AHP.
The fuel boost pump for the aircraft was first indigenously developed in Korea. It is one of the core component for fuel subsystem and composed of motor assembly, impeller assembly, and body assembly with BLDC motor. It shall provide some amount of fuel to engine system continuously for any flight condition considering sudden altitude change and any attitude. This paper describes the procedures and the results for the design, the integration, and the performance analysis of the fuel boost pump.

A fan-motor assembly in a vacuum cleaner is analyzed through system-level analysis method. This system consisted of three components, a fan, motor, and the flow resistance of the motor, or of the vacuum cleaner. System-level analysis method is characterized by the combination of torque matching at a constant throttling condition between the fan and the motor and the pressure drop at a constant flow rate due to the flow resistance of the motor, or of the vacuum cleaner. The performance characteristics of the fan-motor assembly and the vacuum cleaner system could be predicted over the whole range of operation, based on the characteristics of each component. The predicted performance of the vacuum cleaner system through system-level analysis agreed well with the experimental results within 4.5% difference of pressure and 6% difference of the efficiency. The effect of flow resistance of a motor is investigated and it is found that the efficiency decrease of fan-motor assembly at the constant flow rate due to the flow resistance of a motor is determined by the flow resistance ratio(FRR), which is defined as a ratio of flow resistance of motor and the flow resistance of a constant throttling condition of a given point. The fan-motor assembly(S2 model) was modified to reduce the FRR from 9.0% to 2.4% and the experimental result shows that the efficiency of S2 model was improved by about 3% at best efficiency point.
Power window motor assembly including ECU system is important to doors of automobile. This study is done for own development instead of importing of power window motor assembly. This paper is written under five specific subjects. The first, making of prototype sample and analysis of mass-production problem using CAE, the second, design of mass-production mold(2D and 3D), the third, manufacturing of sample mold, the fourth, tryout and measuring of 3 dimensions, the fifth, data analysis and mold modify. In the among them, product sample and analysis of mass-production using CAE, design and manufacture of mass-production mold, and production of sample mold are successfully done. In the results, it is made clear that two cavity and one gate are proper to make a mold of power window motor assembly housing. Besides, it is acquired own technology for mass-production of power window motor.

This paper consists of a study in post-assembly magnetization of LSPM (Line Start Permanent Magnet Motor). Recently, LSPM is noted as an alternative to the induction motor because it offers a very high efficiency and unity power factor, And it is necessary for permanent magnets to be magnetized by means of post-assembly magnetization in LSPMS because of the manufacturing cost involved. The manufacturing process is also simpler in post-assembly magnetization than in pre-assembly magnetization. Generally, permanent magnet motors are magnetized by their own stator coil or by magnetizing fixtures. However, the permanent magnet in a LSPM is scarcely magnetized by using them because of the eddy current of the rotor bar. Hence, it is necessary to design a magnetizing fixture that overcomes this problem. In this paper, the author analyses the post-assembly magnetization of a LSPM and proposes a method for designing the magnetizing fixture. The method that the author proposes is to make the number of coil turns greater in order to reduce the effect of the eddy current of the rotor bars.

The paper presents an implementation procedure of assembly line for ABS motor, which is composed of four subassemblies-yoke, grommet, housing and armature. The characteristics of ABS motor and its assembly processes are analysed, and the automation possibility of each process is examined in order to decrease assembly time. The assembly machines and facilities are then selected for automatic assembly, and the layout of the selected facilities is determined. Finally, task allocation of each worker is achieved by assembly line balancing to increase assembly productivity and efficiency. The line efficiency is also analyzed using simulation.

The cogging torque of a brushless dc (BLDC) motor results from the interaction between permanent magnets and iron core, and it causes noise and induce vibrations. During a manufacturing process, assembly tolerances lead to the change of the electromagnetic structure of a BLDC motor where permanent magnets are not properly glued to the surface of rotor core. In this paper, the effect of magnet separation from the surface of rotor core on the cogging torque is investigated due to assembly tolerance. The relationship with key design parameters is considered such as separation between magnets and rotor core, the number of magnets having separation, as well as the several types of arrangements among neighboring magnets. Finite element method (FEM) has been used to analyze a BLDC motor, and the allowable assembly tolerance is proposed to prevent generating noise and vibrations. Within proposed assembly tolerance, it is concluded that the cogging torque of a BLDC motor is decreased, and hence noise and vibrations.
The fuel pump, which is used for an aircraft, was first developed in Korea through the Civil-Military Dual Components Development Program. The BLDC motor type, which is superior to the DC brush motor when considering efficiency, endurance, and explosive environmental characteristics, was applied to the fuel pump given its capacity and operating condition. The magnetic flux of the permanent magnet was analyzed based on the magnet flux density equation, using the Maxwell equation and the environmental condition. The motor performance, according to the load, was analyzed using the finite element method in order to design validation. The motor assembly was developed by designing the motor drive and the EMI filters. The performance test results of the motor assembly for the fuel boost pump were consistent with the analysis.

To establish nondestructive test method for rocket motor assembly with rubber and aerospace composite materials, practicable quality control acoustic emission test method is presented. Structural analysis for motor assembly is performed by ABAQUS code and analysis output result is confirmed by strain gage and AE data. Various specimens were tested and analyzed using strain gage and acoustic emission data. The hit rate of acoustic emission was closely related with case/rubber debonding. This report also describes practicable acoustic emission nondestructive method for evaluating motor case assembly quality assurance in the industrial field.
